So after first listen I was actually pleasantly surprised with the track. I thought it was pretty cute. BUT! I increased the speed to 1.25 and it sounds way better in my opinion. Also, I don't know if it's my speakers or the filters but the audio sounds static-y as fuck, which I thought was the downside to it.

Christ that was shit. Which is a real shame, I very much wanted it to be good. Just incorporates everything bad about the Trilogy. Unnecessary vocal filters, weak guitars, uninspired and cliché lyrics, and no energy.

Now I'm gonna sit here and watch X-Files whilst I wait for the inevitable Andres bitchfit.

Not going to lie, this tweet made me laugh.

@coslive Green Day have shared a new holiday song called “Xmas Time Of The Year”, and it’s god awful: http://cos.lv/WiRc3

Gotra admit, though I'm still not really into this song. It's getting to me, I've listening it for a few times now and in some way it makes me happy to hear our boys again. Even though it might be far from their best, it's just a little gift. Still I hope for a more natural voice and sound for the coming album, but it's okay, I feel better now :)

I do hope it's a trilogy b-side, though.

Just read the thread and was appalled to discover that DookieLukie is making sense in the face of rabid and illogical denouncement.

GDC has to be better than this.

Or maybe none of us are expecting something amazing so we're not let down? We don't have to all be overly critical of everything the band does in order to feel justified in what we appreciate about them. I don't think this song is amazing, I understand the criticism. I also don't really give a fuck. It's a simple song they released just for fun, and I can appreciate that.

After repeated listens this has got to be a song from the xmas album they did in between AI and 21st

Hopefully not, they do need to take their time. This is too trilogy-esque and low quality to be a step forward. So I doubt it's has anything to do with their new album.

I liked the idea of the trilogy - some garish colours and a bit of fun, not big statements, just some fun simple songs. Even with those expectations I still thought it was mostly crap. Kind of feel the same way about this - obviously it's silly to over-think a throwaway Christmas song but it does feel pretty half-arsed

11 minutes, you're slipping.

I don't see how valid, well explained criticism can be considered unnecessary or over the top. The song is not good, as several users on here and certain sections of the musical press have pointed out. It's a bit ridiculous to be so against criticism of a song in a thread dedicated to that song. Also, I like the vast majority of Green Day's material, as you well know. I'm also capable of being objectively critical of it. Is Insomniac my favourite album? Yes. Are the vocals badly mixed on it? Yes. Is Tight Wad Hill one of the worst songs they've ever released? Yes. I have high expectations of everything Green Day release because they've released some fucking amazing stuff, and I still want them to, even when that's clearly my heart overruling my head.

I get that you love Green Day and all, but as Admin you should probably be better at dealing with valid negative opinions of things that Green Day do. If you really didn't give a fuck you'd have ignored my post.

The problem I have with all this criticism is that it's judging the song based on criteria it never intended to fulful and then complaining when it doesn't fulfil them. Sure, it's a cheap throwaway song, but if it's supposed to be then where's the problem? I'm not a fan of the vocal filters, but I still think it's fun enough for what it intended to be.

As admin, my job isn't to make sure everyone is validated for having an opinion. I'm not your kindergarten teacher here to give you a gold star. Just tired of the same people ready to rain on every parade as hard as they can.

Who the fuck said it was supposed to be a cheap, throwaway song? Why do we keep giving this band all these excuses? What other band do we say "Oh it was just meant to be a shitty song, so it's not actually bad."

I don't like it when any band/artist does a cheap throwaway song. If you're gonna do something do it right.

Here's a proper Christmas song, not some half-arsed attempt.

I never said it was. And, again, as you well know, I don't rain on every parade. I wrote a glowing review of Green Day's HOB show earlier this year, which is one of the most repped posts on GDC. But y'know, whatever fits your narrative.

Because it's a pretty generic christmas song released on Christmas eve on YouTube?

It's a christmas song meant for one day of the year that had no announcements and was randomly released on their youtube page and still hasn't been mentioned.
