The trilogy was the biggest let down of my life seriously(here come the comments "you should get a life"). I was so hyped about it I even tried to convince my self and others it didn't suck so much at first.

Billie Joe makes a new song called "Promote Time."

"Oh new album, your holy grace. I will promote you till I'm blue in the face."

"Play all the songs, they're stuck in your mind."

Hubby said he heard about this on the radio yesterday.  In questioning him he said it was the reddit story so not really reliable news.

I don't bash trilogy. But i can't help but wish one song didn't exist.Nightlife .I hate this song so much not because of weirdness but thinking of all epic songs Green Day made. what happened? Seriously ,if there is any way i could ask this to them without being mean ,i would. I love weird Green Day songs, but this one was too much for me ,it was the first time i felt angry about Green Day.

I care about lyrics. Actually they are one of the biggest reasons for my love for Green Day.Billie could have been out of his mind when he wrote and made this song, let's say Mike and Tre were too but no one around  told them how awful this song is? I don't think my anger for this song will be gone but enough for now.And fuck that stupid lady cobra.

I feel sorry for some songs on trilogy that are really underrated and great but this song deserves every hate it gets.

So much anger for a little song.  I love Nightlife.

I feel like Nightlife is just a song Green Day fans love to hate, as it gives them an excuse to pretend that every single song on that album (Lazy Bones excepted, and even that isn't great) isn't pure shit.

I like nightlife more than Lazybones

To be Honest, I love every song (one or two exceptions) Green Day has put out in their entire career.

I think the hate generated from the trilogy is more to do with them stepping into some new ground and playing with different sounds. I thoroughly enjoyed the three albums, I believe if you say they are garbage it's purely because of your musical taste. It's not what people expected.
I listen to music from classical, country and blues to metal, rock and punk. Appreciate music in it's entirety.
Just because something doesn't appeal to your preferences does not make it bad. I bet a lot of you would say "that's garbage" about many classical pieces or say a rock ballad when in truth it's good, you just don't seem to appreciate it.

Who judges that? If it is good in truth or not? It's all matter of opinion. And most people don't like the trilogy because it's just a mediocre collection of songs. With bad lyrics uninspired melodies and nothing exciting really. It's not a different sound as you say. If something it's green day in their 40s trying to do what they did or should do in their 20s and it's just bad. It's closer to the majority of their albums. The only really departure was AI and 21CB and these weren't such huge departures anyway.

Also about nightlife why do you people hate it so much? I mean it's not that good but surely if i listen to it i will remember its title cause it doesn't sound like 20 other songs from the trilogy. At least it's unique and has a great bass line.

In my opinion if green day just made one good album instead of three albums, had a proper tour with proper promotion and rob cavallo did a decent job with the production of the songs, everyone would have a much much different view of the 'trilogy' its a shame because there were some good songs in the trilogy but the production of some of them practically ruined some of them for me.

Not that the Trilogy was all-around bad, it was a gulp of fresh air for me after the overly serious, self-indulgent, over-the-top 21st Century Breakdown, even. I admit that in 2012 I might have geniunely enjoyed these albums, because I was so tempted to hear something new from Green Day. As the time passed by, the novelty wore off and it started to feel as a compilation of half-decent B-sides - scalding hot on the outside and freezing cold inside. What, however, didn't quite click with most people, yours truly included, is that the Trilogy carries that rushed, undercooked feeling to it. They could have just taken another year or two and make sure everything is right. As a result, we would get a much better finished product.

Why did they feel such an urge to rush things? It's not like they were under extreme pressure to churn out yet another album, nor it was like they had to squeeze within crazy deadlines. They all knew that they are way too old to pull off the "party animal" demeanour. They knew they were only kidding themselves with this ridiculous concept. No ridiculous concept is going to cover up your ass if you don't work hard enough to bring it up to standard.

Musically I don't think the trilogy is terrible. And there are some really good songs on there. I also don't think it's exceptional, and since that's the first time some of us feel that way, it's still a let-down in a way.

I was used to love every song on older albums so that was the first time i didn't like some songs, that was a let-down.But to think that so many bands we love have bad songs on their albums it's not the biggest deal ,some trilogy songs are great.

Is Nightlife good? No. But I get the sense that the GDC people who bitch and moan about it are really just your angsty "lol rap is killing music, rock is the only good music" neckbeards.

Calling Nightlife rap is such a laughable stretch. Is there a genre called person trying desperately to speak (atrocious lyrics) in a sexy voice?

Nightlife isn't even rap, really. It's just bad. And people who say it's bad probably are just people with ears.

Yeah Nightlife can only just about be called rap. I like it and I think having a little taste of rap (the kind of rap vocals and the beat) mixed with rock and Billie's zombie like vocals works but it still leaves me wanting Green Day to collaborate with a proper rapper. Refreshingly for GDC I think most people do just dislike the song rather than automatically hating it because it's rap, although I have seen the occasional "no Green Day shouldn't do rap!!!!1" post.

Even if Nightlife was the worst song ever (which it isn't, i don't mind it), I'd much rather have it at my disposal and be able to listen to it anytime, then never have heard it or known of its existence. Even trilogy songs i dislike, like Drama Queen, I'd much rather have it than not. There was 37 songs, the chances are you won't love them all

that's my point of view too. I rather have 37 songs to choose like or not than have a regular album with 12-14.

And i do like the trilogy, I only miss the distortion on guitars

Tbh the zombie vocals are way more annoying than the rap.

Agreed! I don't really get the wishing they'd narrowed it down to one album thing, as it is it's like a pick n mix where you can choose your own albums worth of the songs you like best if you want.

Speaking of Mike,  if he would write another bass line like "No one knows" that would be one of the greatest things to happen in this decade.I'm really excited to hear his new bass lines.

On one hand I love No One Knows, on the other hand that intro was rather heavily inspired by this:

Now I can't think of one without hearing the other, and that's one of my least favourite Jam songs so I'd really rather not.
