Guest Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Billie Joe still hasn't thrown his weight behind Sanders so I have absolutely no faith that he's smart enough to write a political album at this point in time.

Along with tons of old photos, each time presented as a brand new scoop.

TaylorKlinke Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Everyone bashes the trilogy, but I feel like it would have been completely different if the whole iHeart thing wouldn't have happened, and the cancelling of all tour and media appearances. We just didn't get any excitement out of it, so that's why it felt like it "flopped". But I hope the rumors are soon confirmed because I miss hearing Billie's voice.
BucksCoEric Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I wouldnt be surprised of their next stuff talked about politics or billies rehab. Whatever it is we get i hope the production is good unlike the trilogys.

Mozzabillie Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I actually liked the trilogy. The only disappointment was when all those concerts got cancelled and not rescheduled. The shows around the Bay Area were going to be small venues and seemed like a dream come true. I was at the 1234 Go Record small show so I'm grateful that I got to listen to some of those songs live while I had a chance. I was looking forward to hearing them live at the other shows.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I don't intend to turn this topic into another debate about the trilogy but to those who think people don't like it/ridicule it simply because Billie went to rehab before it's release I ask you this. If he never felt the need to inform us that he wasn't "fucking Justin Bieber" would Nightlife be a good song? If Green Day had in fact never ever been to Vegas would the lyrics to Makeout Party and Troublemaker not make me want to gauge out my eyes? I could go on but I think you get the idea.

Well, there was nothing to make up for the albums when the tour was cancelled. I didn't care about the albums while I was excited about concerts and thought I would see them the next summer. But the albums were still a letdown - we only had other things to talk about. 17 minutes ago, st_trillie said: I don't intend to turn this topic into another debate about the trilogy but to those who think people don't like it/ridicule it simply because Billie went to rehab before it's release I ask you this. Chin for a Day Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Well we are talking about the Trilogy because we have nothing else to talk about. I agree that the Trilogy had some really cringe worthy songs, such as Makeout Party and Troublemaker (I personally like Nightlife). But, it also had Brutal Love, Missing You, X-Kid, Stay the Night, etc. If they had made it one album, and left out the filler, we would be thinking differently about it. With all the lesser quality songs that are on it, it is sometimes hard to remember the good ones.
Sarcasm Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 the only thing I really disliked about the trilogy is that it wasn't released as 1 unit right at the start. Having to spend 3 times the cash for CDs was supposed to be a problem of the 90'
Hermione Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I don't think anyone's saying that's the reason some people dislike the trilogy. It's more that it's a big part of the reason it didn't get attention/wasn't known. If Green Day had been making TV appearances promoting it, talking about it in interviews, releasing music videos and on tour it would've got a lot more attention and more of the good songs would've been known of and given recognition. Of course people would've liked or disliked it either way but when they played the songs multiple times at secret shows and had started doing interviews about the albums prior to Billie's rehab no one was outright trashing them and acting like anyone who liked them was a fool, so it must've made some kind of difference.

Sorry, Mar, but you negated the legitimacy of your post with its first three words At this point, unless it comes from an official press release, I call bullshit or mere wishful thinking on anything from this fucking band and anyone related to it.

Actually someone above suggested that "everyone bashes the trilogy" and "if the whole iheart thing hadn't happened it would be completely different". Obviously lack of promotion hurt their sales. Lack of touring/cancellation of dates annoyed some affected fans (not me I saw them 6 times on the 99 Revolutions tour including two secret shows and still think the trilogy sucks) but the reality is the trilogy really did not meet the same quality as any previous Green Day album and fans were (mostly) supremely disappointed. There were some good tracks scattered throughout the three albums but they were few and even then not as good as the poorest tracks on previous records. Certainly there was no way they should have released three records as there were two too many. If anything it made me question Billie's songwriting skills which I never questioned before. Some of those songs should never have made it out of his bedroom. Iheart and rehab have nothing to do with that. If anything that gave me hope that the entire band, management and record label were so shit faced when recording and deciding to release these records it and it won't happen again. Wishful thinking.

You can promote something till you're blue in the face, but that doesn't change the quality of the music, which wasn't really up to the band's standards at this point in time. To each their own, but when you eliminate the "ooh, new music!" excitement, the CDs seem average at best.
inthehallwaynow Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I need more distortion in my Green Day album
