Where do you personally think Green Day should go sonically with their next record?

A real music fan who loves Green Day should use the Pistols to show how Green Day IS punk, not knock down the Pistols to show how they aren't punk.

Who cares? Pistols and GD are two different bands one are talentless hacks one writes great songs and melodies who doesn't depend on gimmicks...

They should team up, despite hating each other to make the most punk song ever.  A super-group called Green Sex Day Pistols.  Could you imagine a snarling sing-off between the two of them?

The new song has only confirmed what I think about Green Day's future. I truly enjoyed it (mostly because it came out of nothing) and I'm pretty sure it's not a Trilogy b-side, since the Trilogy era should be over by now, both in their and in fans' minds. What about the font used in the video? They haven't come up with anything new yet, that's the answer. It'd just be silly to release something recorded almost 4 years ago, I mean, what would be the point of that?

They'll never go back to their roots, we won't get another Insomniac, at least not in the next future. They're all very open-minded, Billie in particular has said and shown many times that he doesn't like to stick with one thing his entire life. He acted in some movies and even on Broadway, he recently recorded a song with a DJ and an entire album with a country singer. "I don't want to limit myself musically. It would be really limiting if we'd neglect something we really want to do, like explore other styles of music." - Billie Joe

But that's just fine. We already have a Dookie, an Insomniac, an American Idiot (wait, we actually have two - nah, just kidding!). I'd be super excited if they brought one of those sounds back again, because I've always identified Green Day with THAT kind of sound (not punk, not rock, just Green Day), but come on people, it'd be totally understandable if they wanted to move on, to explore, even to become something else, to challenge themselves one more time and attach their name to something we'd never expect from them.

Now I want to identify myself with them for just a moment. I'm a fresh Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, what I've been creating my whole life has finally been recognized in the best way possible. Now, what's the point of me recording a rough punk-rock album in 2016? In no way I'm going to become more of a rock legend than I am right now. I've done that, I've been there. Why not reinvent myself and try to take a different path? Let's see what comes out of that, at best I'll be remembered as one of the few musicians capable of ranging succesfully over different genres, at worst I may stir my fanbase, but who gives a shit honestly? Dookie and AI have already gone down in history. I'm a 45-year-old Hall of Famer, I've sold dozens of millions of records. I will retry with the next album.

The point is, there's plenty of quality music outside rough punk. At this point, the only thing Green Day should avoid is laying themselves open to ridicule, but I don't think this will happen at all. I'm sure they can go out of their comfort zone and produce quality stuff at the same time and I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next. I don't like very much the vocal filters and the guitar tone on Xmas Time Of The Year, but I take it as simple as it is (a special Christmas gift) and I really appreciate it. Now a whole album like that wouldn't be exactly where it's at, but even though I believe somehow this is the kind of sound we're gonna get, I'm also sure they're working hard to do the best they can, not only for the fans, but also and mostly for themselves.

I really love "Xmas Time of Year".  It's a great song.  That guitar is just crisp, clean and oooooh so good.  Love how the guitar sounds in it and hope we hear more guitar tunes like that on Album 12.  As for vocals, I hope for more range in the future.  It works for that song, and I hope that it was a conscious decision and not just them phoning it in.  I want screams, "hey-oh's" and F-bombs.  well, at least a scream or two.   I

Right now I'm listening to some Pinhead Gunpowder ("Ashville")......trying to find Billie's best vocal sound.....Okay.    His voice is F(woo)ting fantastic across the boards in my opinion.  Listening to Nimrod and 21st Century Breakdown......it's hard to tell.  His singing has improved from 1039 to Tre, but it's never been less than exceptional.   Just compared "At the Library" to "Xmas time of Year".   Wow.   Both good.

If I HAD to choose an 'era' to pluck his voice out of, I'd say Pinhead Gunpowder (Carry the Banner), Nimrod, or Tre.

PHGP has that real raw sound.  Nimrod is clear and crisp.   Tre showcases his excellent range.

So....the guitars of Xmas with vocals that are simultaneously crisp and raw, showing off his singing range.

BLAM.

I  am going to guess their sound will be more garage rock, maybe like the Strokes or something like that. I know Joey and Jakob really are into that sound right now, I didn't know if it had a lot to do with a family influence? Never know. I'm psyched for whatever comes, just as long as they put real effort into it.

I can't make a new post....

The next album will be called The Death of Pop Punk.  It starts with a pop punk song and progressively changes until at the very last moments of the record the music is a slow grindcore nightmare of metal smashing into a flaming church and bloody kittens.

At the moment I'll be happy to hear anything new (as long as it's not that fkn xmas song) but I would love them to strip it down a bit again the trilogy felt quite shallow tho I liked some of it but all the "effects " took away some of the honesty that we know and love

Is is possible to take the 11 albums (and various other releases) and combine them into one really awesome album, a beacon of all that is Green Day, 1986 to Present?   Not looking back, but mixing this all into one really amazing album.

The breakup songs of 1039/Kerplunk.

The beautiful poetry and experimental sounds from 21st Century Breakdown.

The spunk of Warning.

The mood of Uno.

Some of the new sounds Tre touched on (but not too much, everyone on GDA will whine and moan)

The variety of Nimrod.

The edgy vibe of Insomniac.

The weirdness of Dos

The popularity of Dookie

The guitar sounds and emotional power of American Idiot

A live feel, complete with Hey-Oh's (but not too many, GDA will whine and moan)

And perhaps a Billie Joe and Norah-style song.  Green Day has done ballads, but something with more folk or country.

And as I always like to mention, more screaming/snarling vocals.

and another thing I always go on and on about, VOCALS FROM THE OTHER THREE GUYS!   Jason is a great singer/songwriter, give him a chance.  Mike too.  And Tre, I so want to hear a serious Tre song one day.  Tre Ballad!!!!!!!!!

I like Mike's singing in American Eulogy. It's an exception but nothing new after Homecoming so I see no need to repeat it.

I agree 100%. However, I really love his part in AE.

I'd always want most of the singing to be done by Billie obviously but it's cool to have the occasional song where you hear the others, they have distinctive voices and styles so it's interesting. A taste of Mike, Tre and Jason singing on the next album would be cool, Jason's a better singer than Mike or Tre so I see no reason to leave him out!

All joking aside, I would just go insane, happy insane, if they did a song with Jay-Z

That actually might be good.  Vocals by Billie, Mike, Tre, Jason, Jay-Z, Kurt Cobain and Taylor Swift, all in quick succession in one track!  a short punk song where they all spit fire!

Billie, Jay-Z, then a big no, no, no, no and I'm throwing in about 10 million extra no's on Taylor Swift.

Yes! Jay Z's collaboration with Linkin Park was great, with Green Day it would be amazing.

I'm genuinely excited by this idea. I'm actually gonna be disappointed when it never happens
