PurpleIron1039 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 To be honest, I have wanted GD to do metal for a very, very long time. At the very least, something like The Offspring's brand of metal-inflected punk. I've been listening to some live recordings and partial covers from the 21CB era and I think Billie has the voice to pull it off, provided he doesn't put it through a load of filters and editing. I just really, really want to see them do metal. I made an account just for this.

PursuitOfEpicness Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I really can't see green day doing metal at all... i mean there is Take Back.

I will not even put it in the hardcore genre, its just a thrown fast-paced song. They made some heavy music in Insomniac like Geek Stink Breath(especially the opening part), Brain Stew and even Jaded and little bit in Walking Contradiction. I don't see any difficulty in turning their music heavier, they now officially have seperate rythm and lead guitar section they can just do the required tunings only I think Tre need to have a more expanded drum set for that.
Maddie86 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I've got a lot of guesses as to what their next record will sound like. and I do believe that they will release one this year. Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, American Idiot, and the trilogy were all released mid-september or later, so I feel like they are in the demo stages right now and we'll get a record late in the year. I remember at least for 21st Century and the trilogy that they announced when they were in the studio, and I feel like i remember for the trilogy they started around valentines day, so hopefully we get an announcement soon! For those of you wanting another Dookie or Insomniac, forget it. Dookie was a record made by middle-class kids in their early 20's who had a decent but small following, and there's no way they can really remake that. Insomniac was a reactionary record made with plenty of drug use, they had a hard time dealing with their success but now they've embraced the rock star thing, so again, we're not getting another one (although i gotta say, that's my favorite album, and i love watching videos of live shows from that era where they're all twitchy from drugs) In some ways the trilogy was kind of an expanded version of nimrod. Musically it's all over the place, and while nimrod was lyrically about drinking and becoming an adult, the trilogy was also about partying, but this time around it was not wanting to admit you're an adult and deal with the fact that you're turning 40. I liked the direction that they were heading in with the trilogy. Uno had a lot of throwback songs to classic green day, Stay The Night is actually one of my top favorite GD songs, and Nuclear Family and Let Yourself Go were also very enjoyable. I love that Mike started playing busier bass lines again, and I hated the style of soloing from the rock opera albums, I'm glad they went for more of a rock n roll style this time around. A lot of fans said they wanted classic green day and they gave it to us and we shat all over it and rejected it. oops. I like a lot of the songs from Dos and Tre too, but there's a lot of filler in this whole thing. I wish they would have just made one 45 minute album like nimrod. So where to next? I'm thinkin an updated version of Warning. semi-political songs but also a lot of reflective songs too, were not gunna get a party album this time around. While I would love it if they went for a heavier guitar tone, I don't think we're going to get it and honestly I have a feeling the songs won't call for it. I have a feeling I'll like it, but I also have a feeling it's not going to sell very well... compared to Dookie and AI anyways. And it's not their fault, even if the album is amazing, this isn't the stuff most teens are interested in hearing anymore. I just hope the label lets green day be green day and not try to market them to the pop radio crowd like they did in 2012 Also, I feel like Rob Cavallo will be producing. I thought Butch Vig did a good job with 21CBD, sonically it's great, but keep in mind that on every album Green Day gets a co-producer credit, so a lot of the sound is up to them

They could probably do something good if the two bands collaborated though, seeing as how they work so well with others. When I said "stoner rock", I meant more of in the same category of stoner rock as QOTSA, not a replication of their sound as that would be impossible . Songs For the Deaf is in my top 5 albums of all time, and I agree, not many bands could ever replicate such magnificance. Anton Fantwon describes it best as "an excellent mix of ferocity and infectious riffs, melodies, and choruses". And let's not forget they're awesome songwriting. Albums such as the aformentioned SFTD, Rated R, and ...Like Clockwork truly are modern classics.
Ham Pascale Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 On the next record, I envision Green Day focusing solely on producing quality songs and excluding everything that might distract people from the song, or is blatantly useless. I think that it would be great idea for Green Day to revert back to basic "Les Paul / Plexi / no effects" & "stock P-Bass / Ampeg" & basic four-piece drumkit without any bells and whistles setup in studio (because busting out some obcure 50's amp and $10,000 guitar only to record a small portion of one given track is pathetic and useless); dropping technically challenging parts and solos completely, only to produce three or four-chord stripped down songs would be a blessing. I would definitely like to see Mike as a chief songwriter on the new record - or maybe a EP comprised of Mike songs would be really nice. As Kyle Serlington said above, a lot of Green Day songs wouldn't probably call for a heavier sound. Just about any sound would work, really - be heavy or clean - for Green Day, as long as it's thick and volumetric. I don't think that heavier sound would necessarily help showcase Green Day's strengths, or challenge the listener. I think it would be just way too safe and formulaic for Green Day. While I really like Jason White and think he deserves some recognition, I feel like he is of little use in the studio - Billie Joe did just fine by himself. Yes, he is an essential part of Green Day's live sound, and Green Day as a band, but still.

I'll be interested to see if you're right!

If we must compare the new sound to an old sound (and we do), how about a mixture of Nimrod and American Idiot, with a dash of s(woo)y-sounding live feel and a pinch of Billie and Norah. And perhap one song that sound like it was ripped right out of the middle of Dookie. Drops the mic. Walks away.

WhiteTim Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 i hope they do a sequel to the trilogy but make it 6 album saga released within 2 months of each other with even a cleaner sound than the trilogy

Krookh_123 Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I feel like they need to make something in the sense of AI that has a powerfull message and really leaves an impact. I remember when AI came out it was talked about everywhere, people who didn't even like rock knew this album and knew it meant something. Now I'm not saying they should do the whole Rock Opera again but just something that dabs a bit in punk angst, catchy pop, and rock along areana rock would be a powerful way to go. Above all i want it to be something real that comes from the heart and really touches people like AI did, and like their earlier albums as well. Though I did like the versatility and creativity of the trilogy, I had a hard time connecting with many of the songs, the only ones i felt a connection with were Xkid and 99 Revolutions

That Dude Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I listened to Nimrod today on the good ole commute to work. I didn't even skip Last Ride In like I usually do (just Haunshinka because it's garbage). And I thought to myself, what if Last Ride In had lyrics? I made up some of my own lyrics but didn't get very far, or even come up with anything good. Except the idea. What if Green Day were to release Last Ride In on the new album but with amazing lyrics over the sort-of-okay music? It could be a great tune! Haushinka (not ever worth my spell checking) is total, reprehensible trash and no sequel should ever be made to it. (Before the tirades begin I am kidding. It's just my least favorite song, NOT garbage, trash or the like). The new album should have a sequel to at least one of their songs from a previous album. Here's the songs I'd most like to be made: Jesus of Suburbia II F(woo) Time II Last Ride In II Worry Rock II Sex Drugs Violence II
Steven Seagull Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 How about Dominated Love Slave part 2? It would make a great song for the new 50 shades film.
