Where do you personally think Green Day should go sonically with their next record?

Green Day has 1 year, 6 months and 26 days to release Album 12.  They can't make us wait as long as they did between Album 7 and Album 8 ever again.  People died between 2004 and and 2009, and they never got to hear anymore Green Day after that.

But seriously though.  the demand for a Tre-led Green Day (Tre Day) is so high.  That's basically why we are all here, for Tre.  Why was Green Day's last studio album such a great success sonically and financially?   Because it was called Tre and had his face on it, that's why!  And he was in Green Day long before Billie and Mike (and Jason) came around.  It's his band.

I truly believe that Tre should just abandon the band, and start his own career. He should start from covering all the green day songs, from 1039 to the trilogy. But with the help of Norah and kiffmeyer

I know, right?  The other day I was thinking about dying (I've had a recent battle with cancer) and the strangest thought occurred to me.  If I died, I would miss all the Green Day records moving forward.  I know that sounds silly but it was kind of a 'wow' moment where I sort of understood how final death is.  I remember 21st Century Breakdown (the demo version anyway) being the last Green Day song my mother heard before passing.  Music has a way of bench-marking moments in our lives and.....anyway.

Perhaps this will be Green Day's first self titled release!  or untitled, those are usually good.

Yeah I thought about this. It applies to everything. I can't tell if the fact that world would go on withought me is depressing or comforting.

I can conclude their sound for next album in 3 ways:

1. During 21stCB tour they covered a variety of bands like Black Sabbath, GN'R, The Who, Lynrd Skynrd, Led Zeppelin and hell even they covered The Misfits for wishing Metallica. For their trilogy style they cited AC/DC and Beatles as influences but I think they messed up in combining all these and hence many fans didn't liked it. But it is highly probable they will continue with this same style.

2. In demolitious they recorded trilogy songs in proper "punk" style like 39/smooth and kerplunk. So they can get into hardcore punk/ alternative metal for next album or at least crossover thrash metal can be more accessible to them.

3. They can turn into sludge metal (still hardcore but slower & with complex pickings) just like Black Flag or can combine funk in their music like Bad Brains. If not all these melodic hardcore can also be okay with me.

Green day is included in the most waited metal/hard rock albums of 2016

I wonder why everyone be like"meh..". Come on, metal can not be completely unknown to Green Day if they got into hardcore punk they can surely get into it. I don't want them to become Iron Maiden or Slayer but yes I do want their next record to be heavier and more authentic punk rock. And talking about someone else on vocals?!? NO CHANCE! Billie is a dynamic singer and no one can replace him.

Actually, I doubt that Green Day's next album will be self-titled. Billie said in various interviews that the trilogy albums were meant to be self-titled, while 'Uno', 'Dos' and 'Tré' were subtitles, just to number them.

Thinking about it, it feels quite weird since those releases don't really represent Green Day's music (at least in my opinion). Plus they are quite below the average Green Day quality.

They like to say Brain Stew is their "metal song" :D. That's why they play bits of metal covers before it. Billie's definitely into metal, he loves loads of those types of bands and was in one called 'Blood Rage' for a short time when he was like 14 lol. And Tre is in an Icelandic death metal band. So far they've tended to just reference metal in a jokey/tongue in cheek way but I think there's always the chance they could experiment with it.

I don't think anyone really wants Billie replaced on vocals, it's just cool to also hear the others sing sometimes.

Dunno why everyone always forgets this when talking about Green Day and metal. Dookie could have been very different.

Now I want them to do this so bad

I feel like Ska Punk could be a good revivalist move for them, it was great in the underground with Op Ivy; but with Green Day's backing, they could bring out something funky imo :)

The more I listen to it, the more I can hear what a norwegian death metal Green Day album could very vaguely, potentially sound like.

Remember to remove videos from quotes please guys.

I know I've heard that instrumental several times but I never picked up on how metal it was! It's quite difficult to imagine them doing a metal song in a serious way, I'm sure there'd have to be some tongue in cheek element to it, but I'd certainly like to hear that or even just to hear them incorporate some metal influence in their sound.

Yaas King For A Day showed us they are capable!

No please not this! Something similar to Misery and Little Girl would be so much better. I love that mood no matter how they present it. (These two have in common more than you'd expect. Just give it a listen.)

I need to agree with Dear Jane.  King for A Day is a place they should never, ever go again

Haha, yes.  It is old, dated and worn out.  They do it in concert and it is 20 min of dead air during an otherwise perfect concert going experience.  It was fun in concert when they started doing it, but now it has worn out its welcome.  Song wise it is nothing more than a John Philip Souza oompa song with some guitars and clever lyrics.

Yeah, we are right haha. All ska songs sound the same and KFAD is not fun(ny) anymore. I'd have to cut off my ears if they made a whole album worth of this

I guess I can understand that but Idk man I love ska and if done well, not all ska sounds the same.
