Where do you personally think Green Day should go sonically with their next record?

I'd replace him with Harry Styles.

You just had me google that name.   And that's a big no. No no no.  The next in line would be an Armstrong. Tim, Joey or Jakob.  Even Neil would be better than your....idea. shutters. I hope you were kidding...

Still a better suggestion than any of these inferior, uglier Armstrongs. :P

No, they are now going to be female led band with me in the lead.  Billie can sit on my lap.

I regret not naming my cat after him. Could've said he is sitting on my lap right now. Fml

They hinted their next sound when they performed in the rock and roll hall of fame. While being inducted they performed 3 songs, first was American Idiot and after finishing When I Come Around and before jumping into Basket Case they performed a small portion of instrumental which was little bit back to roots + AI, 21stCB sound, for a moment I thought they are gonna perform a new song and it was getting really awesome but ended suddenly. Well I may be wrong but that part of music amazed me and I think they really played a stuff out of their new album. Very few might have noticed it.

They played the opening to Panic Song before Basket Case.

LOL! But Panic song starts with a bass line, isn't it? And the part they played was a lot different.

It wasn't exactly the same, but it sure sounded like the opening to Panic Song to me.  Here, listen

Whatever they were playing it sounded better than the beginning of Panic Song.

Okay, it's very similar but it's not Panic Song.  Drums are a bit slower, bass and guitar are a bit different.   This is a really cool find!   The way they are dressed, the video screen behind them.   I would love for that to be the new look and sound of our favorite band.  Tuxedo's, that guitar sound, bring it on Green Day!

I just watched them play all three songs, and wow!  I can imagine a whole concert like that!!!!  I don't want a bunch of "greatest hits" shows next time around, but a completely new set-list formula with the big hits to celebrate, old songs and fan-favorites for the (duh) old school fans, and lots of new songs to make Album 12 a success!   The hits of course, then some really old or rare stuff to make GDA go all gooey-eyed.....oh man.   Epic.

It wasn't that different. They did the same thing at House of Blues and I legitimately thought they were going to play Panic Song. I wouldn't look into it too much.

The point I was trying to make is this is not an insight into a new sound.  They had 15 min to try to put on a production.  It was simply them taking a sound they used already, Panic Song, and trying to spice Basket Case up with the limited time they had.  They simply took Panic Song and changed it a bit.  I have to agree with Alissa, as soon as I heard it I was screaming that they are doing Panic Song, and then they went into Basket Case.

Doesn't have to be anything new - I'd love it if they used this rawer sound.

Agreed, but someone several posts ago said that they hinted about a new sound with using the intro to Panic Song.  I was just simply pointing out that it was not new.

Yeah I know, I just wanted to say that it's not the most important thing isn't if it's or isn't new but the fact that it's good so it would be a good direction to go to.

I'd love it if the new stuff sounded like that. Sounds like a cross between Panic Song and 39/Smooth era stuff.

Well it was similar but I don't think they expressly wanted to play Panic Song nor had it in mind when playing it. It was just some kind of bridge they made up for the occasion. It did sound very good indeed.

I'm a fan and get excited when talking (typing) about Green Day.  And here I go again.....(just kidding).   Back to the topic at hand...Green Day's new sound should expand on Billie's vocal variety, and push all four guys to their musical limits.  I like crisp and clean guitars, with dirty nasty screaming vocals.  Also, I want Tre Cool and Jason to sing lead on everything.  Billie will push his vocal ability while doing backup-singing and doing "oohs and aahs".   Muhuhaha.

But seriously though.  the demand for a Tre-led Green Day (Tre Day) is so high.  That's basically why we are all here, for Tre.  Why was Green Day's last studio album such a great success sonically and financially?   Because it was called Tre and had his face on it, that's why!  And he was in Green Day long before Billie and Mike (and Jason) came around.  It's his band.
