I love how Billie Joe sounds like he's underwater half the time in the trilogy

American Idiot is flawless save for the fact that you can only hear Mike's bass about 4 times on the entire album.

He doesn't though! What's wrong with people's ears :P

He's awesome at overproducing, that's for sure. :P

2 by Bush that are great are Nevermind and Wasting Light, they aren't overproduced

Also New Wave! He's good.

Yes he does.

Nevermind could be better by 100% if Butch wasn't the producer. Let's say Nevermind is a table, but this table is dirty as shit. Termite invested, dirt all over, all sorts of diseases you can get from just touching it. But Butch Vig comes to clean up the mess, making it safe to eat dinner from and sniff cocaine off of. In other words: He practically made it for radio, or overproduced as one might say. He's not a bad producer (fuck, he produced my favorite album of all time Siamese Dream), but he sure does a great job at overproducing.

Well sounds like someone stuck a coathanger in said filter.

Tim, an album being overproduced is not a good thing (most of the time, it's justifiable). I can understand if 21st Century Breakdown was supposed to sound super glossy in terms of production, but I just personally don't think it fits the band or the album (Hell, most of the songs), thus being overproduced.

How can you actually overproduce an album?

It's subjective, really. Look up any definition and just go with what you think. There's no easy way to put it.

Maybe it doesn't sound dirty enough

I guess it's opinion, but I think Nevermind is perfectly produced, overproduced for some people.

That's why some people prefer In Utero, it's more rugged, still well produced, but different.

the issue with Nevermind wasn't Butch it was Andy Wallace...

I don't think you even know what overproduced means...

No? Butch Vig produced Nevermind. Andy dealt with the mixing. Nevermind does not have bad mixing whatsoever.

Tim, "overproduced" is very subjective on how you see it. Hell, I'm looking at a page right now and everyone's definition on it is different.

Fair enough. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. :P

Butch wasn't the one who polished it up added drum samples who added loops Andy did that mixing is not just leveling volume of audio... i don't think you really understand the process of production mixing and mastering...

go listen to the Devonshire mixes of Nevermind you'll see how it wasn't overproduced...

Actually, I take it back. Nevermind is not overproduced. Don't know what I was smoking there. What I SHOULD HAVE said was, I am not a fan of the production. That's a better way to put it, right? Don't get me wrong, the mixing and mastering is done perfectly, I have no "beef" with it. I actually apologize for that.

I was like I've never heard the accusation of Nevermind being overproduced lol

the mixing has always been slammed from Kurt and Krist to Butch on down to fans not that I have an issue with it but Andy's choice of using electronic drum fills when you got Dave Grohl performing on drums is questionable for me but otherwise I love the album

Yeah, don't worry. I still love Nevermind. The only thing I have with it is that some songs sound a little too "radio-friendly" for a grunge band (Don't worry, Tim. I know how you feel about people calling Nirvana grunge lol). Just think there could be a little more edge to it. Don't even know if that would have to do with the production.

if possible check out the Devonshire mixes its disc 3 of the super deluxe Nevermind it's the version Butch mixed but the label thought it was too raw for the masses
