Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 A pissed off racoon. I once read this in a review. Raccoon is a common description for Billie haha. I've read so many reviews over the years that described him as a raccoon. Personally I think of raccoons as cute but I guess that's not what reviewers like the New York Times had in mind when they called him a "rabid raccoon" http://mobile.nytimes.com/2011/01/10/theater/10idiot.html?referrer=&_r=0

BetterThanAir Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I don't think he's scary looking at all. He's cute, I guess. I dunno. I like black hair (which he has a lot of the time) and crooked/slanted teeth a lot. But something I really like about Billie Joe is that he actually does look good in eyeliner, his eyes are nice, and his teeth are nice.

DarcyJ76 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Ok, well, I have the definitive answer. I asked my 9 and 11 year old nieces "What do you think of this guy?" and showed them a few pictures. The 9 year old said "why is he wearing make up". I explained guyliner to them and how important it is to look for in a mate. She concluded "He looks fine". My 11 year old niece said, without me coaching her, "He looks creepy, and it's not the guy liner. It's the way he stares into your soul and can see all the darkest parts of you". I said "you are 11, you have no dark parts" (they are very innocent kids) and she said "But if I did, he'd know them". So there you have the answer.

The kid has a point though. Could have been, but at the same time, if he did have mental issues and you add alcohol and the presciption meds later, you probably will act and seem like a crazy person most of the time. You don't have to be high on speed, cocaine, whatever other illegal drug to seem out of your mind.He seems to be doing a good job hiding it.

This is the best answer so far Your niece is awesome
Chin for a Day Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I explained guyliner to them and how important it is to look for in a mate. This.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I think some people tend to overanalyse his looks. The fact that he had a drinking problem or mental health issues isn't written on his forehead. People sometimes see what they want to or what they expect. Same goes for his behaviour.
Elena Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 no idea whether anyone already mentioned this, but: and little kids never lie ;D ...but I really wouldn't consider him as scary

Nice answers from your nieces.

The fact that he had a drinking problem or mental health issues isn't written on his forehead. People sometimes see what they want to or what they expect. Same goes for his behaviour. Actually, when you look at his Instagram photos that were taken before iHeart you can KINDA see it.. He looked dead tired and absolutely fucked up in some of those and just sad, I don't know. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but oh well
Laetitia Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Before I was really that into GD (i.e. about a year ago), I didn't think Billie was very attractive, but I did find him a tad scary, mostly because the preponderance of photos of him that I'd seen were from the AI era, with the pitch-black smoked-out eyeliner, all-black-and-red attire, and all that jazz. However, after I got to know his personality better, I began to consider him "hot" and "cute". His looks aren't the boring, chiseled-features, smooth-glowing-tanned-skin kind of look that is the modern male celebrity "beauty standard", but I think his eyes do have that haunting quality about them that makes them seem as though they could easily bore into your soul. He is strangely beautiful, but a large part of his attractiveness is, I think, his charismatic, winning personality. He's basically just an adorkably fluffy little kitten with guyliner. Aaanndd that concludes my long-winded tangent of an answer.

You are right, you could see it - he looked fucked up and honestly I don't like looking at those photos, He sometimes looked miserable. On the other hand, I don't conseder it significant, though. Most of the time he behaved normally and that's why it didn't influence my opinion of him much.
Billie Hoe Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 Just saw this gif floating around on a Green Day blog and thought of this whole "Billie Joe is scary" thing again excuse me while I hide behind my blanket
Jean Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 This came up on my tumblr dash and my mind went straight to this thread. It kind of goes along with what I said earlier about his facial expressions when performing.
MikeDirntConfused Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Everyone I've asked claim that he looks like he's on drugs, and point out that he wears eyeliner.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Everyone I've asked claim that he looks like he's on drugs, and point out that he wears eyeliner. Well, he's a junkie with eyeliner. No wonder he looks like one
MikeDirntConfused Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Well, he's a junkie with eyeliner. No wonder he looks like one True, I mean I'm not hating Billie Joe. I think it's great to do whatever one believes in; however, actions to create impressions. And in Billie's case, it's not always positive. The iHeart meltdown certainly reinforced the drug addict impressions people have of him. I don't know Billie in person, so I can't say whether or not he's addicted. I'm just stating what the people I know think of him.
loveblondiebilliejoe Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I'm not sure that Billie is really "scary", but he does look mean in some photos of him because he tries to look as much like a rocker that he can. That's just part of his punk rock nature ......... But now that I think about it this is kinda scary

I don't know Billie in person, so I can't say whether or not he's addicted. I'm just stating what the people I know think of him.The thing is that he's not a major celebrity whose every move and personal life gets to the media. I remember reading about him as a person twice in my life. First time was after his incident with sagging pants on the plane and the other one was iHeart. The positive and normal things he does don't recieve the coverage because they're not exciting for most readers. He's not Justin Bieber. Therefore, I assume it's no surprise his public image outside the fanbase isn't so positive. A lot of people know very little about him and his being a addict is a common knowledge these days. It's natural that they tend to "see it" in him. That's what they expect him to be. For example for when my mom talks about him, she adresses him as "that drunk of yours". That's because it's a personal detail she knows about him, something that influenced her opinion. Before she learned this she knew nothing about his personality and had neutral opinion about him. He was the "guyliner guy" and that was all. I think she's a good example.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 He doesn't look scary most of the time, though. Maybe a bit arrogant? Is it even possible to look arrogant?
The Bellie Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 I've randomly fallen in this thread, if anyone still reading here's what I can say: Some of my friends said Billie looked weird the first time seeing a picture of him. The others said he looked okay / cute. I personally think of him as handsome and beautiful but I get that it's not automatic after seeing a few pictures for the first time, since he's an atypical kind of figure and people are only used to the celebrities that are considered as hot and pretty much all look the same to me or just meh. Even for me, I think the beauty I find in him today (in a physical way) even though I was fan from the first second, I only started to see it after watching lots of stuff during a few days. More on topic, one of my friends said he looked creepy because of the eyeliner, I showed him a picture of Billie without eyeliner and he said "like that, he's okay". While I find the eyeliner to fit him so well (and I wasn't predisposed to find him beautiful with eyeliner since he's the first guy wearing some I had ever noticed. But I think it fits him even more than most girls). Another person whom I've shown a video of a gig last year with a close-up on his face asked me if he was taking heroin (!) because of his paleness and the freckles on his face. I was like "seriously?! these are natural". So yeah, people can have weird thoughts sometimes. (This person was not exactly a friend, but still...) As for mean, some friends who want to piss me off says that even when he rants on stage and looks angry he doesn't scare them the slightest, and I must agree with them. For me, I feel very impressed and find him totally badass whenever he puts on his growling voice on stage, but he certainly doesn't look mean. I even collect rabid raccoon type of Billie pictures to fangirl over Next time I'll show someone who has never seen Billie this picture and see how they'll react: Spoiler

I love him so much! I've had a lot of similar experiences. My friends say that he looks weird. I showed them a video that I took at the Seattle Longshot show an they said that they think he looks better without eyeliner, but still aren't that impressed by his looks. We have very different tastes in what we find attractive. One of my friends keeps insisting that he looks like a hobbit. Not the fact that he's short, but just his general features. In regards to looking scary or mean, I personally find him intimidating sometimes. That's not because of his expressions or anything, but because he's so amazingly gorgeous. He's like intimidatingly beautiful. He doesn't look mean to me at all, and wouldn't even if I didn't already know that he's a total sweetheart. He's got such a warm and genuine smile that you can just tell he's got a heart of gold!
