solongfromthestars Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 What I meant was I just don't think we should be assuming anything either way - he hasn't specifically said he's anything now and if he wants the public to know/think otherwise he'll say so. I don't think he was ever making a statement about equality, he said he was bisexual back then and I wouldn't question that, but I'm not going to question him saying he now doesn't classify himself as anything either, because it's his choice to identify that way whatever the reasoning behind it is.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I don't think talking about it is homophobic. We're not talking about it in a phobic way. There wouldn't be a way to educate people if it were a taboo. Besides a lot of people are homophobic withought even realising it so it's important to explain these things.
Vic_Rattlehead Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Big contradiction : When Billie Joe said "I walk alone" in the Boulevard of Broken Dreams video, while, obviously, he's walking with Mike and Tré by his side. A walking contradiction.. /thread
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted May 25, 2015 Author Posted May 25, 2015 Well in the case of the video Mike represented his shadow (always beside him and in the video following him) and Tre his shallow heart...(because he beats the drum and he is shallow...sorry!) so it's all a metaphor. Really Billie is totally alone...really

There's no way to create awareness about things if the minute you start talking about it everyone screams "homophobia!" and stops talking about it. No one in this thread has been offensive. They've been respectful and open to intelligent discussion.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I could be offensive. Also offensively unemphatic
evredika Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Yes he mentioned society in general/paernts etc but he said specifically that "I think I've always been bisexual." As he said himself questioning it is in itself homophobic.OMG, OMG, I TOTALLY didn't mean it to be homophobic! I merely expressed my impression about it, based on the [limited] information that I had. I totally don't care and accept whoever he really is, I am just curious about him in every aspect [being in a "crazy fangirl" state of mind] now. And he made public statements about it, so I feel like it can be discussed. I agree. It's not our business and it's kind of pointless as well because we don't really know. But on the other hand, I'd never say he was just making a statement about equality, because we don't know and it reeks of homophobia and not admitting the truth. Again, it's not like I am in a some sort of denial. Just based on the info I got. I also don't take this thread very seriously, more like in a humorous way, otherwise it would feel like everyone judging him...

Iva Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 These fantasies about a man having hots for other men could be trivilisation of what actual same-sex relationships are.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 These fantasies about a man having hots for other men could be trivilisation of what actual same-sex relationships are. Who said anything about fantasizing?
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 These fantasies about a man having hots for other men could be trivilisation of what actual same-sex relationships are. that's why i find slash disturbing. Had no problem with Cometbus, though. Who said anything about fantasizing?i fantasized about being in Aaron's place and dancing with Billie. it was pretty innocent for my standards.

Exactly I didn't see anybody fantasizing Cometbus was writing about a real event like you say Jane which is hardly fantasizing and even if you wanted to be in Billie's place well that makes it a girl "fantasizing" about being with a guy...more specifically a fan with a rockstar as per the entire fangirls thread. I don't see anyone freaking out that threads like that trivialises the relationship between a man and a woman. Geez.
Hermione Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Yeah I appreciated it as the loving moment of affection between two old friends that it was very sweetly described as, nothing to do with fantasizing about anything.
Jet Taman Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 That time that he said that he begged to differ and then like one second later he said he agrees with every word that I said. Man, that kind of contradictory aggravates me.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted May 31, 2015 Author Posted May 31, 2015 At this point I'm just going to say nobody has mentioned anything Tre or Mike has said or done lol. We've all been picking on Billie haha.
That Dude Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 These fantasies about a man having hots for other men could be trivilisation of what actual same-sex relationships are. Maybe Billie Joe is the Faggot America. Maybe Not. End of story.

Mykee Mexx Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I love contradictions. Means, you´re not dead but still in the progress of life.
StuckWithInsomnia Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 In this interview (around 7:39) Billie Joe says something that he has since contradicted. He says that Basket Case is about someone else whereas now he says its about himself having panic attacks
Hermione Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 In this interview (around 7:39) Billie Joe says something that he has since contradicted. He says that Basket Case is about someone else whereas now he says its about himself having panic attacks I wouldn't call that a contradiction, songs can have multiple meanings or be inspired by multiple things, or different parts of it can be about different things. He even mentioned "a lot of it is about other people" in his writing, so when he says the song is "kind of about this girl" it doesn't necessarily mean all of it is or that it couldn't also apply to him. Also when he's said it's "about having panic attacks" etc, that doesn't necessarily mean only his own.

I still would, because he has given two different meanings to Basket Case, neither of which mention the other. The truth may be that multiple people inspired the song, but Billie has never said that multiple people inspired Basket Case. Since he has started saying it's about him he's never mentioned this girl he mentions here.

There were also quite a lot of other times he said it was about him or about feeling crazy/panicky in general before he mentioned the girl there though. Just seems like he usually gave the broader explanation of it being about feeling crazy and panicky etc, but there he decided to be more specific by mentioning the girl he knew who felt that way and other times he decided to be more specific by mentioning his own experiences of feeling that way, both of which helped inspire it.
