Ross_19 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Interesting interview, hopefully the wait for new material isn't as long as between AI and 21st CB. It's good to see Billie talking about new music! Especially the "I can't say" bit!!!
jakdokinori Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 This interview was awesome! Definitely exciting to hear about the next album - I'm glad they're taking the time to perfect the songs and make sure it's right. I know it's WAY too early to be thinking about this kind of stuff, but I hope for some awesome album artwork too! Whether intricate and busy like Insomniac, or simple but poignant like American Idiot.
Todd Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I'm really hoping the new stuff kinda kicks back to 21st Century Breakdown and East Jesus Nowhere Haha, that was probably the last thing you guys would expect me to say Also, it'd be fucking awesome if Rolling Stone landed an interview with John
Tubbie Head Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Summary for those who don't feel like reading: John Kiffmeyer is awesome Billie Joe likes a lot of famous bands No new information on an album whatsoever. John Kiffmeyer is awesome Such a useful first post! A+ Will read it now
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 A really nice interview. Not much of new information, but it has a nice positive vibe. It's full of hope for the future. that's the most we'll get this year i guess.
Tubbie Head Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 "Why don't you go over and say hi to so-and-so?" And I'm like, "I can't get out of my seat right now. I'm about to have a coronary." this is adorable. I'm about to have a coronary
scatteredminority Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Well, the band seems to be very enthusiastic about those 4 or 5 demos, so assuming they all make it into the album, we could say they've already written about a third or half of the record (?) I guess I'm just anxious for new music
Iva Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I imagine you met a bunch of people that hadn't previously met before, right?Well, yeah. I hadn't met Ringo before. I met Patti Smith years ago when Roseanne Barr tried to do a late night, Saturday Night Live skit comedy thing. This is back in the mid-1990s. She was the other performer. It wasn't long after her husband [Fred "Sonic" Smith, of the MC5] passed away. She comes up and here I am singing these songs about drugs and beer and being a loser. She said something profound. She goes, "You were one of Fred's last favorite bands. Him and my son, they really bonded over Green Day."
Guest Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Why were you expecting that? Because you literally said it in the OP Billie Joe talked with Rolling Stone about the band's weekend in Cleveland, getting inducted into the HOF, the House of Blues show, and new material.
UNICORN VOMIT Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Made me more excited for the new music - even if it is years away.
dirtyapathy Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I'm pleased to know that they plan on taking their time, but are also eager and passionate about recording. To me, that is the perfect balance. I rest easier about having to wait, knowing they're in a positive place. I'm more anxious about seeing them back on tour. Cleveland got me all jazzed up...
captain peroxide Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Is someone gonna periscope the band in the studio?
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I was so excited when I woke up to the news of a new interview this morning, but I didn't have time to read it, so Brandon proceeded to read the entire interview to me while I was getting ready for work. I think he was as excited about the possibility of new Green Day news as I was, which is always refreshing. After getting a chance to finally sit down and read it, I just get an overall good vibe from the entire thing. To me, his Instagram follow-up post was all the closure I needed from the epic Cleveland adventure, but damn, getting this much insight is a really wonderful, unexpected treat, especially considering they basically declined all media interviews the entire weekend. There were so many good one-liners in this thing, and it's just so encouraging to know how moved they all were by the entire experience. Not that I ever doubted that... even Billie's great words in this interview don't compare to the smile on his face during the House of Blues show, red carpet and induction ceremony. My favorite part, by far, was this line: Adrienne, my wife, she was like, "Why don't you go over and say hi to so-and-so?" And I'm like, "I can't get out of my seat right now. I'm about to have a coronary." That reminds me so much of Brandon and I whenever I encounter a celebrity. I just freeze up like an idiot and I don't know what to do. I'm glad to know that no matter how famous he gets, Billie will always be a crazy little fanboy. This experience really showed off his humble side. And as far as I'm concerned, "I can't say" is more of a good sign than a bad sign in terms of possible news as early as next year. If it was farfetched, I think he would've just came right out and said no. But for him to essentially give a "no comment" normally means the interviewer is on the right track. I'm optimistic (which is saying something for me!). I think, from what I can gather from this interview, the band is really reflecting on the failures of the trilogy and they're trying to do whatever they can to prevent its downfall from happening again. If waiting another year or two results in great music, a successful tour and a possible rise to mainstream popularity once again, I'm more than willing to wait. The band has already done more for me this month than I ever dreamed possible.
Mar Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Ugh what a loser I hate him I hate that he had as much fun as we did that weekend and I hate his entire existence ugh go away (Translation: I have a huge fucking grin on my face after reading this.)
Sanity Loan Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 Because you literally said it in the OP Yes, they talked about new material. "About" doesn't necessarily mean they go in-depth

Guest Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 A GDC without Céadóg would be a GDC not worth posting on.
Mykee Mexx Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Jerry Lee Lewis was there, too?! Gosh... that´s just... wow!
