JOE THE X-KID Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 What's the deal with the excessive negativity on here lately? Every thread lately seems to just be shitting on this band that we all supposedly like. That's why I barely come here anymore, the negativity started to rub off on me and make made me criticise every little thing Green Day did. Glad I've got over that now.
BucksCoEric Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I feel like his live singing mightve dropped off slightly. Especially when i watched their reading festival performance from 2013 his voice just didnt seem loud enough and he seemed at times like he was out of breath
Mykee Mexx Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I'd rather he sang another 10 songs than did the hey oh's tbh. It's fine on your first GD show, but after that it starts to grate. Fuck his 5 minute speech about Instagram and JOY JOY JOY in the middle of Letterbomb too. He just needs to shut up on stage to rest his voice, rather than burning out his vocal chords. Be true: you don´t really want him to rest his voice but you want to get rid of his Hey Oh´s.
Guest Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Be true: you don´t really want him to rest his voice but you want to get rid of his Hey Oh´s. That's the main one, haha. But Green Day don't have many really vocally challenging songs so he shouldn't be wasting his limited vocal chords on shouting nonsense
Mykee Mexx Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Yo he's 43 not 63, a lot of older musicians scream around a lot more than he does and their voices are fine too Agreed. I know a singer from Scotland who I´ve been knowing now for almost 30 years. Went to so many concerts, now he´s 61, and his voice ist still as powerful and strong as it used to be. Sure, he himself calmed down, but his voice didn´t. But he had a similar bad time with pills and alcohol as BJ, with his voice breaking just like BJ´s did at Iheart. But he recovered and so did his voice. So, being 43 is no indicator that BJ´s voice is "old". Also Brutal Love shouldn't blow anyone's mind. It's a decent bit of singing if you're an average singer. BJ was doing better stuff live on the 21stCB tour. I know you like to be a wrecking ball.
Billie Hoe Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Agreed. I know a singer from Scotland who I´ve been knowing now for almost 30 years. So, being 43 is no indicator that BJ´s voice is "old". yeah, a lot of people think that once you hit the age of 40 you're an old geezer, but Billie, Mike and Tré are still well-breathed... I'm sure they do a lot to stay healthy, now more than ever after Billie's rehab and Jason's cancer. I didn't see the iHeartRadio show, I only saw the bit where he started to freak out and smashed his guitar on the stage. I don't even want to see it after I read the interview with Kerrang/Rolling Stone and after they told us that he went to rehab... Idk, just seeing pictures of that day or seeing him in that t-shirt he wore there makes me really uncomfortable
Mykee Mexx Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Here are two performances from the last tour in Australia: https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIVNU3odTug https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yLbrEaYA9g OMG... sexy, lonesome boy with a guitar... it´s just killing me... *swoons*
Mykee Mexx Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Idk, just seeing pictures of that day or seeing him in that t-shirt he wore there makes me really uncomfortable Feel the same...
Z J Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Not going to put myself through reading this thread, but I'll leave my reply. He already has recovered. Sounded pretty good in Australia (better than Reading) and sounded very good at the acoustic benefit. Plus Foreverly should be counted, though I know it's not the same style. So that's enough of this crap, he's good to go.
HARVESTER Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Shall we find something else to pick on? How about putting more interest in why people are not keeping their word after they said they are going to reduce our dependance on oil, by promoting more drilling; or about how elephants need their tusks more than we do; or about how selfish much of humanity has become in a time where selfishness is really not needed? Let's allow Green Day to sound different and accept their new style because if we do not allow change we are possibly cowards...
UNICORN VOMIT Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Well to be fair billie is in his 40's like I & i can't run to the shop let alone run around for 2 1/2 hrs getting the crowd going & singing. I say he should keep doing this - that's what a gd concert is. He also has really cut down on the hey hos. I know for a fact he was having some trouble in brisbane with his voice but it sounded great to me. As for brutal love I think that is a fangirl thing because he sounds hot as hell. It's completely different to a biffy clyro concert where basically the crowd sings along & occasionally simon says where biffy fucking clyro. That's great as well but gd concerts are unique with crowd involvement etc - they just need to revamp the setlist.
Billie Hoe Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Let's allow Green Day to sound different and accept their new style because if we do not allow change we are possibly cowards... Their new style wasn't the problem. OP was "worried" that Billie Joe's voice is going to shit with age and alcoholism/drug abuse
Harry Potter. Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 This thread is really ironic, since BJ's vocals have recently been better than ever before, both live and in the studio.
Clockwise Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 His voice has been and will sound fine, ya weirdos.
Spike Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 How about putting more interest in why people are not keeping their word after they said they are going to reduce our dependance on oil, by promoting more drilling; or about how elephants need their tusks more than we do; or about how selfish much of humanity has become in a time where selfishness is really not needed? Because they don't really come under the umbrella of "Green Day Chat," mainly. This thread is really ironic, since BJ's vocals have recently been better than ever before, both live and in the studio. 5 years ago, maybe?
96Tomato Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I noticed when he's drunk he gets very nasally. You can see it at Summer Sonic 2012, Irving Plaza and especially the iheart show. I don't think he needs to recover cause his voice isn't really damaged since he stopped the abuse. He sounded great during the second half of the 99R tour.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I honestly don't really pay much attention to vocals, not just for Green Day but for any band, as long as the music sounds good I'm good.
gnash Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 it's not the greatest vocal performance in history or anything, but I always liked this video from the 21CB tour, and I maintain that no vocals on the most recent tour have sounded as good

LostHighway Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 Yes foreverly is the best singing he has ever done. I don't see the problem with his voice Yeah, nicely autotuned in the studio. Like T Pain is a fantastic studio performer
WhiteTim Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Yeah, nicely autotuned in the studio. Like T Pain is a fantastic studio performer There's no auto tune on Foreverly Try again
fukingcounterstrike Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 He uses exactly the same speeches at every show on every tour. He has a routine, and it's very obvious a lot of the time. He did the JOY JOY JOY thing over a dozen times last tour, and it was funny the first time I saw it at the VMA's, and just irritating by the time I saw it live at Brixton. And it doesn't surprise me that a band as shit as 30STM are also shit live. I genuinely think you're misunderstanding me on purpose with the voice resting thing. Billie is old now. That is a fact. Your vocal chords can't take as much of a battering when you're his age. Hence why instead of doing hey ohs he could just talk to the crowd. Or play something less vocally challenging that the crowd would like to hear. Not rocket science. Or learn to play his fucking guitar and whip out some solos
sherribomb Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Why the hell would someone be complaining about his singing? From a singer's standpoint, he's just gotten better. He started using his diaphragm muscles more so the result is a much clearer and crisp voice that comes from the lower stomach muscles instead of through the nose. It may not be "punk", but it means he has a much broader range of notes and octaves when he sings using this method.
LostHighway Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 There's no auto tune on Foreverly Try again Oh I'm sorry, I should have rephrased that. There's no autotune, but there is pitch correction. Some of the fangirling on here is beyond belief, to the point where they actually convince themselves that Billie Joe has been a good singer since 2012 onward. Because they don't really come under the umbrella of "Green Day Chat," mainly. 5 years ago, maybe? Thank you Spike. You, like me, are one of the few fans on here that actually look at the reality of things rather than getting all defensive at the slightest of justified criticism. Wake up people. His singing has been poor since 2012. He needs to rectify it.
