I think the best justification for them playing a Lookout song is that Kerplunk! was the bestselling indie record of all time.

Except Billie didn't say it'd be nice to play a Lookout song they said they would be

No, he absolutely did not say they would be playing a song from the look out era, he said it would be ncie. Here is the exact quote:

"Green Day has been completely inactive since they wrapped up their last tour in March 2014. They plan on performing at the ceremony, though Billie Joe Armstrong admits picking a setlist will be a challenge. "We'll get there, " he told Rolling Stone. It's hard because there's the Lookout years that are important to us. It would be nice to play something from those years that's meaningful."

i just really don't want them to play basket case, i don't think i've ever been so sick of a song :P

They should play The Ballad Of Hobo Billie Joe.

I thought I was the only one! Everytime I hear it on the radio, every freakin' day, all I can think of is they have 11 studio albums, can you please find something else to play!

How many copies did it sale? Cause I read it had sold 50k if that's the case can't be #1 as it came out in 92 Mudhoney's Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge had sold 100k in 91 on Sub Pop which is a indie label

It is just a timing issue that the Lookout era is why they are in now. There is nothing musically in the lookout era that would have gotten them in. They have only 3-4 songs, I personally feel it is a waste to do a song from the lookout era at the rock hall induction ceremony. LEt them play Kerplunk from start to finish at the after party. They need to put on a spectacle in 30 minutes.

The Lookout era also got them a small fanbase and got them signed to Reprise. You're probably right in saying that there's nothing musically revolutionary in those albums, but it's hard to ignore your roots when it comes to these things. :P

Come to Houston 94.5 is always playing Brain Stew and She with an occasional BOBD altho they did switch up one day a few days ago and played Holiday altho I think it was a mistake and they meant BOBD

Maybe it was the bestselling indie album of 1990. They only hit 50,000 units before they signed to Reprise. It's sold over 4 million now though.

Kerplunk came out after Mudhoney's album tho or maybe whoever put Kerplunk as the most are only counting US sales

I agree, but when you are only getting 3 or 4 songs, you really need to pick something significant. They have a very limited time to make an impact. It is a very unusual crowd and difficult to get motivated. They need to pick songs they can relate too.

At the after show, they can play their entire catalog if they want.

i'm trying not to get my hopes up too much for a show friday night or saturday after the ceremony but i'll still be really surprised if they end up not doing one. i just hope they don't wait and announce one while we're all driving there and unable to get tickets :P

Good thing I only live an hour away! ;)

So, their three biggest songs then? Minority, When I Come Around and Boulevard of Broken Dreams?

I wouldn't call those their biggest songs. I'm thinking more of American Idiot, Basket Case, and Good Riddance(even though they probably wouldn't do an acoustic song).

Actually, I really like this idea. I can see them getting Lookout era songs in by doing a medley and this would be a great way to start a medley. Then they can throw in some lookout era songs. But the opening lines of Waiting really fit the occasion.

I can imagine Billie singing "I've been waiting for this..." and then stopping and smiling, before launching into the next song.

Those three are their most successful singles as far as the numbers go. But I could definitely see them doing American Idiot and Basketcase. And I agree with you, Good Riddance just wouldn't really make sense.

I literally do not give a fuck what they do as long as they play American Idiot. I am pretty much driving to Cleveland and sitting through a dumbass awards show because I want to experience listening to American Idiot live again. It's been 2 years and the withdrawals are so real.

Yes, I really like this idea, what a great way to start their set. ANd just because I'm an anal bitch, the line is: "I've been waiting a long time, for this moment to come...." The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced this is the opening line.

Actually as far as charts go Good Riddance never made it to #1 on ANY of the charts on one chart it made no 2

Actually, I picture the end of the show being a medley with all the performers. They would start with A Little Help From My Friends, then go into I Love Rock and Roll and end with Good Riddance.

Waiting would be a great song for them to do because it would capture the moment so well. I love the idea of a medley and playing Good Riddence for that too.

Undoubtedly have to play Waiting ... not because I think they expected this hall of fame for life, because more and honor hall have a band like Green Day there.

I was going to argue with you, but then I found this and decided YOU'RE SO FUCKING RIGHT.

I would think that the chances of them not doing it are pretty slim. At least that is my guess.

I would love if they played Waiting, one of my favourite songs
