Haha. Yeah, you're right. If they only get three songs like I've heard, King for a Day should not be one of them. They should play one really old song, and two songs that made them who they are today......now which two, that's tough. and maybe Tre could come up and sing a short little song too.

You know I love you, but the only one singing on that night will be Billie. And I say no to the old song as well

It's so good to see them all back in the same room together. Something to look forward to!

Do you guys really think BJ wears the crown even during rehearsal? He probably just put it on for the picture lol

So, their three biggest songs then? Minority, When I Come Around and Boulevard of Broken Dreams?

Billie's talked about wanting to play a song from the Lookouts era, seeing that it was such a major part of their career.

I say

2000

Basket Case

AI/BOBD

is the set list since Billie said they are doing 3 songs and 1 is Lookout era

Billie's talked about a lot of things that don't come to fruition. You should know better than to trust him. :P

I hope they play an older song!

I know Billie's talked about it. I just don't see it fitting in when you have only 3 or 4 songs to choose from. They have a very limited time to put on a production and I don't think there is one song from the lookout era that truly sticks out as one that would make a statement at the induction ceremony. Basically, I will believe it when I see it.

I don't think the Lookout era is really a major part of their career, other than that is where they got their start.

Either way, I can't wait to see what they will do.

Well those are three of my favorites, so I guess that is what is important. :)

I think all three of those are possibilities, not necessarily all of them. I think BOBD is probably in the upper tier of candidates.

Except Lookout is the only reason WHY they're eligible to be in otherwise it'd be what 4-5 years longer

It is just a timing issue that the Lookout era is why they are in now. There is nothing musically in the lookout era that would have gotten them in. They have only 3-4 songs, I personally feel it is a waste to do a song from the lookout era at the rock hall induction ceremony. LEt them play Kerplunk from start to finish at the after party. They need to put on a spectacle in 30 minutes.

Actually, I just thought of this. What I can see them putting together is possibly a medley of songs. That could be the way to get lookout era in and still fitting into a limited time to perform.

Y'know how cool would it be if they played a completely new song? It's completely unrealistic but nothing could be more awesome.

Well, if Dookie was the reason for inducting GD into the HoF, then they should play songs from Dookie. Eyerything else came later and wasn´t the reason to induct them into HoF, right?

There's plenty of good reasons for them to play a Lookout era song but I highly doubt they will . You can see from any time they're asked about setlists/playing new or rare songs that they worry excessively about the audience not being familiar with every song even just with Green Day shows, everyone being into it and having a good time is their priority when choosing what to play. At such a massive event where the vast majority of the audience will only know their biggest hits my money is definitely on them playing it safe. Maybe they'd chance doing Welcome To Paradise but I can't see them doing anything more obscure.

Dookie is not the reason they are being inducted into the hall of fame. There are many reasons they are being inducted. But, the record that made them eligible this year is 39/Smooth, not Dookie, and that only started the clock. Some of the reasons they are being inducted is for their ability to adapt and change. They have stayed relatively true to their 4 chord, power chord roots, but are able to take that style and adapt it to various influences and themes. Otherwords, most of their albums don't sound like the others. Their songs have incredible lyrics. They have been a major influence on many of the artists of today, while also giving credit to their influences. They are one of the best live bands around. I could probably write a dissertation on why they are getting in, but that is just some off the top of my head. However, if you had to pinpoint an album, they would not be in if it was not for American Idiot.

It´s a simple arithmetic problem: no people in concerts, no money. Tours will be a flop and therefore no more economic. So they have to play songs the majority likes, otherwise people won´t come and concerts won´t pay. Simple as that. They may sell ist as "making everyone have a good time" (I don´t doubt they really want this), but the main reason will be money. Who wants to run a money-losing business?

i would really appreciate if they play WAITING, when they start. That'd be greatest way to start their Gig

Actually, I really like this idea. I can see them getting Lookout era songs in by doing a medley and this would be a great way to start a medley. Then they can throw in some lookout era songs. But the opening lines of Waiting really fit the occasion.

yeah, it does fit, and they can end it with Time OF your Life!! ;)

So they should play something of 39/Smooth. At least anything that ist at least 25 years old. Or is it only important to have had published anything at least 25 years ago, may it have been an album of influence or not? And the influence could have taken place many years later with totally different music, but the first record - may it be dumb and stupid - was released 25 years ago?

Oh yeah I'm not criticizing them for it. In fact I think even more than wanting to be profitable etc it's that they want everyone to enjoy the show and have a great atmosphere in the crowd with everyone really into it and singing along, seeing the crowd react that way is their main concern and their main source of enjoyment during the show so it motivates their setlist choice more than their personal song preferences. I think they underestimate how many rarer songs they could get away with and still have everyone enjoy it, but that their intentions are good and they just want everyone to have fun.

The only requirement to start the clock is to have released a studio album 25 years prior. It does not have to be an album of any significance. If it had to be an album of significance, then they would have had to wait 5 years because Dookie was released in 1994.

I disagree that they have to play something from 39/Smooth. I know Billie said it would be nice, but I really can't see it happening. They will have 3-4 songs and there is nothing musically significant on 39/Smooth. As Hermione said, the only lookout era song I can see them playing is Welcome to Paradise and I doubt that will happen. Or, as I said, I can see a medley of songs and throwing in some lookout era songs. They have a limited time to make an impression and they need to play songs that will really get the crowd going.

I very much like to see it this way, too. And yes, I´m pretty sure they want everyone to have a good time. Otherwise it wouldn´t be fun for them, either...
