But it didn't have the impact of AI or Dookie. It's not as much a part of who they are.

Every album they have ever done is just as much a part of them as ai or Dookie. The popularity does not diminish that

Can't believe it's almost April already! :runaround: I'M SO EXCITED!

I'd be happy if they performed:

Waiting

American Idiot

Christie Road

I'm not sure if the'll chose BODB or American Idiot off AI. I guess they'll want to do a sentimental one and a bang one from their really well known songs (assuming that the third one will be 2000lya/ Holden/ pasalacqua). I think they'll be more inclined to play Dookie (basket case I would imagine) than 21st or the trilogy (also possible, with something like KYE, 21 guns, Oh love (please no), let yourself go or Brutal Love), so my first choice would be Basket Case + BoBD.

Then American Idiot + 21 guns or Brutal love/good riddance (not sure how they fell about this last one), or maybe Know Your Enemy + BoBD. Anything that combines slow Green Day with "bang" Green Day. All plus holden/2000lya/pasalacqua.

I've been revisiting Dookie a lot lately and pretty much anything from that album would be wonderful

Posted

I would love for Billie and Stevie Wonder to do Brutal Love together.

Posted

I still think Welcome to Paradise would be an easy way to hit both an "old" song and a Dookie song and save the other two slots for a fast/slow combo from their two rock operas, like American Idiot + 21 Guns or Boulevard of Broken Dreams + Know Your Enemy.

I'm not saying I like this idea, but I can see them doing it... just because Billie says he's playing an old song doesn't mean they will. They tend to play it safe.

i wouldn't be at all surprised to hear 21 guns. did everyone just magically forget how huge it was back in 2009/2010? :P it was also their last really big hit, so.

i'll be happy with whatever they play anyway, unless it's basket case ugh

It's funny because I actually sort of did! The other day 21 Guns came up on my shuffle and I was like, "Oh, yeah? This is an incredible song that was everywhere." I had the same reaction to hearing Know Your Enemy on the radio too. I just sort of forgot those songs were massive for some reason. I'm the same way with When You Were Young by The Killers. Huge song, tons of airplay, but for some reason gets lost in the shuffle.

Eh if they perform 21 Guns, I'll be disappointed. I've just never been a fan of it.

It is fabulous live and makes a great statement. perfect for the event

I'm not saying they shouldn't perform it. It was obviously a huge track, so I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to play it. I just don't like the song :P

I've been at shows where they use WTP as an opener and it's really effective. It wouldn't surprise me.

Welcome to Paradise

2000 LYA/Paper Lanterns

Letterbomb

Calling it.

They've done Letterbomb at the Rock Hall so I doubt they will do it again. WTP counts as a Lookout song, doubt they will do two.

I predict:

Can anyone please tell me what the Good Riddance misunderstanding is about? Thanks :)

The song is always played at graduations, weddings, etc. Most people think it is about looking back fondly, on something that has ended. However, Billie wrote it when his girlfriend dumped him. It is supposed to be sarcastic.

And that girlfriend was Amanda :D

And according to Rob it's not a friendly "Hope you had the time of your life" at all, it's more of a "Fuck you" :D

I think it's amazing that he still writes songs about her, she really had a huge impact on him

Posted

I kind of hope they don't do American Idiot, just because they did it so well at the Grammys a few (!) years ago. and please not Know Your Enemy.... Considering the video for WMUWSE, even though we all know it's about Billie's dad, they might think that this would be timely to a lot of people.

Medley form (mostly in chronological order, with a few exceptions for style):

"Android" - it's really one of the more underrated songs from Kerplunk, and the lyrics definitely suit the occasion ("And it seems so frightening/Time passes by like lightning...")

"2000 Light Years Away" - Um, it's about Adrienne... it seems like an obvious choice.

"Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?" - Billie Joe's favorite song from Kerplunk.

"Going to Pasalacqua" - Need some love for 39/Smooth.

"When I Come Around" - It was popular, it's well-loved, and it gained the band a lot of attention.

"Basket Case" - Personal song for Billie Joe/helped gain them exposure.

"Longview" - Again, this one helped gain them exposure.

"Coming Clean" - Not a single, and definitely a very personal song for Billie Joe.

"J.A.R." - It's not a song that a lot of non-fans would really know, and again, it's one of the more personal songs (this time for Mike).

"Geek Stink Breath" - Saturday Night Live. That is all.

"Walking Contradiction"

"No Pride"

"Nice Guys Finish Last" - Well, I think they proved the haters wrong!

"The Grouch" - Underrated song from Nimrod, needs more exposure.

"Scattered" - It's a great song!

"King for a Day" - It's probably the most fun song they've ever done.

"Castaway" - One of the more "punk" songs off Warning, and a little underrated, it seems.

"Minority" - Do I need to explain?

"American Idiot" - Popular, political.

"Holiday" - Hell of a song, and one of the most representative songs of American Idiot (which is at risk of becoming all-too relevant once again).

"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" - Just kidding! Great song, but overplayed.

"She's a Rebel" - Underrated song, but really defines American Idiot, in my opinion (for God's sake, the cover!)

"Before the Lobotomy" - One of the best songs on 21st Century Breakdown.

"Modern World" (from "American Eulogy")

"Angel Blue" - Representation for Uno!

"Wow! That's Loud" - Dos!

"99 Revolutions" - One of the only (hell, I think it was THE only) political songs from the Trilogy.

"8th Avenue Serenade" - Anyone else feel this one was underrated?

"Homecoming" - Underrated, but amazing.

"See the Light" - makes for a great closer.

"Good Riddance" - The very end of the song, tacked on to the end of the last song they play (c'mon, they gotta do it).

I'm probably gonna get a ton of hate for this, but I stand by my selections.

If they decide to just do three songs in full:

"Android"

"The Grouch" OR "Castaway" OR "No Pride"

"99 Revolutions" OR "American Eulogy"

There is no chance in hell they will play 21 Guns. That album is too new for this event, plus Green Day did not even play the song on the last tour. They will play 3 well known songs. Most likely something from the lookout days, Dookie and American Idiot. (Or maybe Good Riddance)

Why would they think to play good riddance - the focus is too much on billie then.

So, basically, they're going to play one note of 31 different songs. Solid plan.

They can't hit all of 'em, obviously - essentially, these are the songs that would be appropriate/I would personally like to see considered/actually in a medley. Probably should've clarified.

While it is a huge part of Green Day lore, I don't think Good Riddance is a good fit for this. It would make the performance feel more like a 'goodbye' than a celebration of their career. Here's a good representation: Longview, Minority and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. 90's hit, 00's hit and 04 hit.

I kind of forgot about Minority, actually.

I would have a heart attack if they played Stuck With Me.
