Let's try to be civil to each other, less of the personal remarks please

but mommmmm

Prohibition doesn't make it not work now as we are in different times...

Where have I argued against gun control idiot?

I've said multiple times we need stricter rules

I'm against just banning and getting rid of guns altogether yes but I'm in a huge support to toughen up the laws and ways people obtain them

But I've said that multiple times already clearly you don't read the posts and just signal out what you think is convenient...

And now I'm ignorant first off you don't know me bitch and second until you learn to read don't try to comment to me if you need to ill send some people to you to teach you how to read cause if you did know how to you'd know I have REPEATEDLY spoke in favor of gun control...

Ok we are arguing GUN CONTROL. Nobody is talking about how bad alcohol is because THIS IS NOT THE TOPIC OF THE THREAD.

You accuse me of not reading yet it appears your responses are crafted for someone completely different. You called me a puppet for stating the obvious fact that guns are designed for killing and have a higher rate of deaths per usage. I did not say anything remotely close to "alcohol isn't dangerous" or whatever you're ranting about. If you want to talk about alcohol go do it in another thread, this debate is about gun control.

But not a SINGLE person in here has yet to blame alcohol for anything bad blame everything else BUT the alcohol you and everyone else that is guilty of that are fucked up people and you are apart of the problem...

This is the most inane thing I've read on the forum. Who are you even talking about?

Fucking terrible comparison for what? I wasn't comparing anything, I was just throwing my opinion out there.

Your opinion on vegetarians?

"Control the chaos behind the gun" - Billie Joe Armstrong

Guys, Billie had the answer the whole time. Why must we fight? Our GDC lord already decreed it so.

Yeah Billie had the answer all right...all guns should be melted down

Although I don't agree with asinine gun control laws such as the NY SAFE act, I do agree with the over-all message of #NotOneMore, so I've gone ahead and shared the photo. On Facebook. With all my right-wing family/friends who are definitely going to lose their minds over it. Oh well.

Fuck boy go read the entire thread you'll clearly see where the guns vs alcohol got brought up if you don't know how to do that well...

Also you failed to show me where I have said anything about not wanting gun control before you post something and call me ignorant please have the post ready to prove your allegation of such thing

You fail once again cause I've apologized for my posts last night about this subject...

Well melting down all the guns in the world would definitely be a spike in the job market

Because I do not understand why you are arguing with ME about alcohol. I failed at whatever it is you're talking about, great, whatever that's awesome. My original post related to alcohol was statistically factual, and you went on about how I was a puppet yet you never disproved my OP.

I see where it was brought up, but you are shouting at a wall in this thread. Nobody is saying alcohol is not dangerous, nobody is saying drunk drivers are a good thing. All I said was that more people consume alcohol in this country than use guns, thus meaning that owning a gun is statistically more dangerous. The numerator is about the same (deaths related to alcohol vs. deaths related to guns) but the denominators are not, and you are acting as if they are.

If I'm wrong, then prove it. Show me that the same amount of people use alcohol vs. use guns. Until then, save your inane babble and strawman fallacies for someone else.

I know what he posted, clearly you didn't read my post because I stated that.

His stats don't tell the whole story. Since you can't be bothered to find facts I will:

"In 2012, the share of American households with guns was 34 percent"

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/10/us/rate-of-gun-ownership-is-down-survey-shows.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

"In 2012, 87.6 percent of people ages 18 or older reported that they drank alcohol at some point in their lifetime; 71 percent reported that they drank in the past year; 56.3 percent reported that they drank in the past month."

http://www.niaaa.nih.gov/alcohol-health/overview-alcohol-consumption/alcohol-facts-and-statistics

SO many more people drink alcohol than use guns. Undeniable. There are your numbers, let's see if you can spin this

Posted

Kman and I are having a mock argument about this on Facebook to try to rile up my conservative friends. He's pro-gun, I'm anti-gun. He just said that "Schwarzenegger was wasted" on those "goddam liberal Californians." Send help.

There's no need to spin anything. There's no doubt that more people drink than use guns. My argument was in response to someone saying that if you weren't for more gun control you were basically ok with 10,000 additional deaths per year. So my response was that nearly that many people die each year from drunk-driving. Your line of argument seems to be suggesting that it's not as big of an issue because more people drink. I was responding to an emotional argument about basically damning 10,000 people to death. If I were to respond to you like that, I'd say you're arguing that 10,000 deaths from drunk driving is an acceptable number because so many people drink. As if there's a valid ratio that justifies it.

Not all Californians are liberal. Guns are like mines.... equal opportunity.... but if you give a certain group more opportunity than others, they sometimes have a tendency to misuse their opportunity to try to force slavery on others.

Aren't the gun laws you're refering make it to where no one can own a gun but police? Cause yeah that would really be safe in the US...

Australia although having one of the world's strictest guns laws, does not outright ban guns. If you are a recreation shooter, or farmer, or with some specific circumstances, you are allowed to carry a gun but only one that is of specific use, you cannot have a gun that serves a completely different purpose. You also need to be licensed and you have to have the gun stored in multiple locked gun cases.

It's not that it's acceptable, it's that it's more likely to happen because a greater number of people drinking means more opportunities to drink and drive. It's obviously a problem, but there are bound to be fewer alcohol-related deaths per drinker than gun-related deaths per gun owner.
