AlliHeathe Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I have no doubt in my mind Green Day will get in this year. That isn't personal bias either. First ballot nominees typically get in. One thing that must be considered throughout all of this is, who are the voters. The voters are industry executives, and historians, so the more mainstream memorable artists are always more likely to get in. I feel like some people on this site underestimate Green Day's influence. They created Pop-Punk, or at least brought it to the masses. I'm not saying SRV, Bill Withers, Lou Reed, and Kraftwerk don't have their place but take pride in Green Day. Theyre definitley one of the top 3 punk bands of all time. This i who I think gets in this year. 1.Green Day 2.NIN 3.SRV 4.Lou Reed 5.NWA I hope Joan Jett gets in though. Even consider who these online voters are Older classic rock fans mostly. I hope so. Last year, the event was in NYC. I really want the whole band back in NY. They need to be on top and successful again. I feel like Fall Out Boy stole the success they should have had with uno/dos/tre.
WhiteTim Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Actually first time ballots usually don't get in
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I still can't believe anyone cares about this fan vote. Online votes mean nothing and can be manipulated extremely easily. It's one vote. It will not make or break anything.
Chin for a Day Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Actually first time ballots usually don't get in This isn't true. Excluding the class of 1986 and 2015, there were 59 artists nominated in their first year of eligibility. 38 of them got in on their first try, about 65%. I was more surprised at some of the artists that were nominated in their first year and got in. The Beach Boys, The Eagles, The Byrds, really???

Your shocked that a highly influenced group that has sold nearly 200 million records got in?
Chin for a Day Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 you're shocked at Beach Boys? Your shocked that a highly influenced group that has sold nearly 200 million records got in? Selling alot of records doesn't make you influential. It makes you popular. The Spice Girls have sold 75M, are they in next?

You know how any bands were influenced by Beach Boys? If you don't like Beach Boys that's ok but to act like they weren't an influence well that's just wrong

If you don't like Beach Boys that's ok but to act like they weren't an influence well that's just wrong Who has the Beach Boys influenced? If you are going to tell me that they influenced Billie to take up surfing so that he wore a wet suit in the beginning of Cuatro, then the fan girl side of me thanks them very much. Other than that, I'm at a loss. However, not to be totally combative. They had one great song, one of my favs, God Only Knows.

We need to agree to disagree. I don't get the Beach Boys at all. I see them as a step above bubblegum

I see them as a step above bubblegum Yes but when the band themselves cite them as an influence you can't ignore that lol Like i said it's ok if you don't like them
Gwen Stacy Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Who has the Beach Boys influenced? Well, The Beatles for one.
Cruise Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 sold nearly 200 million records got in? Nothing about what else is being said, but this has nothing to do with how the Hall of Fame works, it judges artists on their influence not their sales figures. The only relation it has is that highly influential bands sell more albums but that is not always the case. Who has the Beach Boys influenced? Pretty much any artist who is in the pop punk genre can trace back influences to the Beach Boys. No even if they are not directly influenced, they are heavily influenced by bands that are.

Did I say record sells were the main cause of getting in? But sales do play a small part of it small but it does
Cruise Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Did I say record sells were the main cause of getting in? No please never ever in life out words in my posts again EVER But sales do play a small part of it small but it does You said they were highly influential and sold 200 million albums. There would of been no reason to even put that there, if you weren't saying that it plays a big part in it. Its all it how you said it.

I didn't say it played a big part but it does play a small factor in doing so I used their sale figure cause the person posting act like Beach Boys weren't a important band

You can make an argument for the Beach Boys being influential, which I will never get, but I will listen to the argument. However, you can never make any argument that there is anything punk about them.

However, you can never make any argument that there is anything punk about them. They are not punk themselves but they influence the pop punk (which is not always that punk). The keyword is influence, you don't need to be apart of a genre to influence people of that genre.

The keyword is influence, you don't need to be apart of a genre to influence people of that genre. No. I agree you do not have to be a certain genre to influence another genre. Rock and Roll is heavenly influenced by early blues, such as Robert Johnson. But I don't get how the Beach Boys could influence anyone. I understand that there is a difference between a band being influential and my enjoyment but their music is trite and their lyrics juvenile. God Only Knows being the exception. If their music was more in line with God Only Knows I would not be having this discussion. Also, I don't care for genres. It doesn't matter what genre an artist is, if the music is good, I listen. I leave you with, in my opinion, the only brilliant thing the Beach Boys ever did. A cover of course.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_s-l-la5dQ
WhiteTim Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Just because YOU don't like them doesn't mean other people are the same way I don't like Metallica but I wouldn't say they aren't a band that has influenced other bands...

21 guns for you Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Agreed, I am just saying I don't see it and don't understand it. Lol the Beatles were directly influenced by Brian Wilson's production work. In their song "Good morning, Good morning" you can hear the inclusion of Pet Sounds on Sgt Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band or "Here, there and everywhere" on Revolver. You have to understand that people enjoy the Beach Boys mostly because of the innovative production work and harmonies.

OK, thanks, I will concede that they can be influential based on the ability to harmonize. I do hear that. I just don't get them a lyricists.
