brie Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Haha! No, that isn't what I ment. I just remember when you took over GDA and had everyone vote a few years ago. That was cool! You guys do have a lot of power you know. And I think this is the best fan website out there. I am certainly not blaming you for anything. I just know you could make a difference.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I am confused and disappointed by GDA. I don't understand why nothing has been done to promote voting for Green Day. Isn't this a Green Day FAN website? We all know that they will probably get in and it isn't necessary to vote. But, this is a show of support for our guys. We need to show Rolling Stone that GDA is still a force to be reckoned with! Come on!.......someone on the GDA staff!!! Do something! Please! Hold a vote-a-thon or something! What happened to that spirit that GDA used to have? Come on Andres! Show everyone once again just how powerful GDA still is! And Show Green Day that we are still here for them! They want us to vote! They must be sick looking at those results. I know I would be if I were them. You have the power to put them on the top. Or maybe you have lost your spirit. But the fan vote truthfully doesn't matter, when you consider that it's only one of hundreds of votes that result in the actual induction taking place. Yes, I think the GDA staff should do something to promote the vote, but to hype it up as something that's more influential than it is doesn't make much sense. Essentially, all the poll is at this point is just an excuse for bragging rights. Which are fun and all, but if the GDA staff doesn't really do much of anything it isn't the end of the world. Also, I doubt the band really gives a shit about the poll. Those things are so rigged as it is, and Billie and the gang likely measure their self-worth by things other than Internet votes.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 i haven't really been following this as much as i should be, but if the inductees are announced sometime in december does anyone know when tickets for the induction ceremony will go on sale? Don't even make me start thinking about the amount of anxiety I will feel at that moment.

I completely agree with you! I guess I was just having an overzealous fan moment.

Don't get me wrong — I want them to get into the hall of fame just as much as anyone else, I'm just trying to keep my fangirl expectations to a reasonable level!
Chin for a Day Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I find this guys writing very wordy, but when you get through it, it is probably the best explanation of the criteria for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the best assessment that I've read. If you can't get through the very wordy, lengthy article, he does say that Green Day is the closest thing to a shoo-in on the ballot, mostly based on his definition of "musical excellence" Innovation. The artist has invented or refined one or more aspects of the music.Influence. The artist has made a demonstrable impact on the music of either contemporaries or succeeding artists.Popularity. The artist has achieved an appreciable measure of commercial or critical success.Crossover appeal. The artist is recognized and appreciated outside the artist's primary arena.Legacy. The artist's accomplishments have lasting impact and appeal. Who he thinks is getting in: Chic, Green Day, Joan Jett, Kraftwerk, NIN, Stevie Ray Vaughn Who he would vote for: Chic, Green Day, Kraftwerk, NIN, NWA, The Smiths, The Spinners Very interesting read: http://notinhalloffame.com/blogs/ddt-s-pop-flies/880-if-i-had-a-ballot-for-the-2015-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-nominations And yes, he acknowledges there are too many yes's
Z J Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I would say that if the fan vote were being run straight up (with no auto-vote scripts) then I would worry about them getting left in the dust this year. However there is no way to tell. They are and always have been a band that inspires divisive arguments. This one is no different. The people that will leave GD off of their ballots are the ones who characterize their career as only "reviving an already existing genre, that being pop punk". But those people just don't look closely enough at what they actually are. I am starting to get the feeling that they will get slighted based on the argument that they are too new or that they have to pay their dues by sitting on the ballot for a few years. I hate that logic, but it is the exact same way sports HOF writers vote. I do find the point that one writer made interesting. He would like to see them do one more good thing in their maturity. I'd argue that AI/21CB exemplified that. However, one of my first posts on this site ever stated that they may need one more impressive album to secure their legacy.

One can make an argument that the fan vote might sway a "real" voter, but that is not a real argument because the "real" voters can vote anytime they want. I would imagine that many of them have already voted. GD inspires divisive arguments because they are so diverse. It drives me crazy when people say all their music sounds the same. Those are people that aren't really listening. However, most of the hall voters are artists, journalists, etc. People in the industry. They should not have any, or have minimal emotional attachment. They should be able to look at each artist and be able to define their "musical excellence" solely based on what they have accomplished. The "they have to pay their dues" is an invalid argument. They meet the criteria of hall voting. And they have been active and relevant for longer than some of the other artists on the ballot. The one thing that may hurt them in that "they have to pay their dues" category is their age. I would imagine if they are elected, they would be the youngest in the hall. The guy who wrote the article I posted says he is not a hall voter, but his categories make sense. You can make an argument how GD fits into every one of those. I'm really crossing my fingers, but there are enough arguments that it can go either way.

But from past experiences with Hall of Fame voters, narratives and fallacious applications of logic are too common. I am very interested to see how the vote goes. They belong there and I'll be on the first train to Ohio when they make it

AlissaGoesRAWR Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Wow, a lot of us are banking on getting tickets, huh? I already live here, so I say I get first dibs!
UNICORN VOMIT Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Wow, a lot of us are banking on getting tickets, huh? I already live here, so I say I get first dibs! Someone has to get in so I can live through their experience.
Chin for a Day Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 There is always the tailgating option.
Z J Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Wow, a lot of us are banking on getting tickets, huh? I already live here, so I say I get first dibs! I actually have zero knowledge of how hard it is to get tickets, but I'd be willing to pay a lot to see it. There is always the tailgating option. tailgating isn't an option, it's a necessity
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 There is always the tailgating option. Tailgaiting is never an option, it's a requirement!
Mar Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I can't wait for the inevitable mental breakdown that will come if they don't get in this year or I don't get a ticket to the induction. I'm feeling oddly/inappropriately entitled about this.
Guest Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Does anyone know when the inductees will be announced? Also, if anyone has a timeframe for when tickets to the ceremony might go on sale for the general public, that'd be cool to know too. WhiteTim, I'm looking at you.

The fan vote ends on Dec 9, so I would assume the inductees are announced soon afterwards. The Rock Hall might actually know already since most of the voters have probably voted already.
Maid Meringue Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Am I the only one that wouldn't be so upset if they lost to Kraftwerk? I'm disappointed to see Nine Inch Nails in the #2 slot...yuck.

Inductees are usually mid December timeframe No idea for the tickets
Guest Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Inductees are usually mid December timeframe No idea for the tickets Thanks! Just trying to figure out when I might possibly need to scrounge some cash up to make my feeble attempt at nabbing those tickets
Grinch Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Hope they win You have the most enthusiastic signature I've ever seen
Heather. Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Anyone know if there's a specific date/time when the inductees will be announced? I noticed that fan voting closes December 9th, and that in 2012 the nominees were announced December 11th, so I imagine it's around then again, but if anyone knows more specifically... I've got the nervous anticipation.
