Chin for a Day Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Sting has fans Just because there are artists who are beating your favorite artist does not mean there is voting rigging going on... It has nothing to do with Sting or Green Day or another artist. In general, the numbers are changing too fast. It is statistically impossible for the numbers to change as fast as they are without some programs being used. Unless some fan group hired people to sit at their desks and just vote all day. This is not slam on any artist on this list, just a math observation.

Voting worldwide and the HOF uses a very secure site for their fan voting (not saying it's impossible) but I know they made sure to make sure it wasn't easy for fans to dupe the votes

Any good programmer can hack a poll like this.

Guest Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 The votes are being manipulated?????! I blame those damn Tokio Hotel fans
WhiteTim Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 The votes are being manipulated?????! I blame those damn Tokio Hotel fans Some folks feel that way
lizziebix Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Some folks feel that wayIt's a Green Day fan thing!
UNICORN VOMIT Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Lol I will give you 50 cents if you can go a day without lol You make some very valid points. First, the fan vote really doesn't mean anything because it is set up in a way that is easily manipulated. And yes, they have burned bridges because of the fact they have changed their style so often. But the fan vote and potential reasons for entry into the hall are two different things. I know this musician, a real professional musician. He is not a tax attorney that plays on the weekends. He is a touring and studio musician who has played for people such as Billy Joel and Ringo Starr. I don't really know him, he is a friend of a friend and I've met him twice. Once, being this past week. Me, being shy, took the opportunity to ask him his opinion on the hall nominees. His choices were Green Day, Lou Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bill Withers and he was really, really into the Paul Butterfield Band. I asked him about the 3 or 4 chord argument for Green Day and he said that it is not a valid argument. Most songs these days are not complicated but, what he was really impressed with was what Green Day has done with those 3 or 4 chords. He said they are so diversified. No matter what argument I threw at him, he kept coming back that they are so diversified. That was his big argument for them. Coming from a musicians standpoint, he said thier ability to diversify is hall worthy, that is almost a quote. He did say more interesting things. He did talk about Billie as if he was the only member of the band. He loved Foreverly and he did say that Billie was an excellent musician. I said that was something I've never really heard and he said, no he is. Again, just one professional musicians opinion, but interesting. When he talks about billie being in the only member of GD - a lot of that has to do with him being the lead singer though. How many bands actually survive or reach the same level if the singer leaves. It is never really the same imo.
Cruise Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Actually the way this poll is set up makes it extremely easy to be manipulated by a programmer.

Maybe they've changed the servers since going up but in the past when they first started the fans votes a few years ago they were hard up on making sure it couldn't be manipulated

UNICORN VOMIT Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Thank god the public vote is basically worthless because all I'll say is f***ing Sting is even beating GD.
GuitarPunk94 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 is this award just for the music itself? coz GD did something good for different generations of fans and GD did some huge steps for the (punk)rock movement, '94 and '04 .. if its not just about the music, but also about the whole meaning behind the music and what the bands and artists did for the (music)-world, imo GD should be in the lead, or atleast be in the top places
WhiteTim Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Thank god the public vote is basically worthless because all I'll say is f***ing Sting is even beating GD. Old people vote
desertrose Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 It’s too early for a band like Green Day to go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Andy Rackauskas : FACT – Yes. In fact, the entire music industry should be insulted that these guys would even be considered before the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Motorhead or Black Flag. Right those wrongs, then consider Green Day. Jeremy Thomas: FACT – They have every right to be nominated by rules, which qualify you twenty-five years after your first major release, and I’m not going to argue that. But I don’t feel like they’ve made the same impact on the course of popular music that acts like Nirvana (who got in last year) and Nine Inch Nails did and have. I think that they have hit a certain elder statesman status, which is strange when you consider that they don’t have that air but they have earned a certain cadre or respect through longevity. I want to see more from them and hear them make a more positive impact as mature artists. Right now all they did in terms of rock and roll influence was popularize pop-punk, which wasn’t even their innovation. I think they can hit Hall of Fame status but they aren’t there yet. http://411mania.com/music/411-fact-or-fiction-music-katy-perry-at-the-superbowl-green-day-in-the-hall-of-fame/ Gripe: Shortlist slots are taken by acts that don't need the boost Whether you feel Green Day is richly deserving of Hall induction or shouldn't even be considered, we can all agree that putting them on the shortlist based on that very first EP is a little absurd. They're likely to get in easily, no matter when they're nominated — the pool of Hall voters, currently numbering about 700 artists, industryites and critics, has a hive-mind tendency to pull the lever for household names. So wouldn't it make a little more sense — not as a rule, just a guideline — to induct Green Day closer to when 1994's Dookie is 25 years old? The Nominating Committee, the 30-to-40-person cabal that creates the shortlist, is the target of much rock-fan ire. But if it's doing its job, it is meant to act as a filter — couldn't they have waited on Green Day? If the Nominators are serious about finally getting Nile Rodgers into the Hall — his band Chic is now on its ninth unfulfilled nomination, nearly a record — giving a slot to Green Day right away seems counterproductive. http://whqr.org/post/right-way-complain-about-rock-and-roll-hall-fame
Spike Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Does anyone seriously think Sting doesn't deserve to get in?
WhiteTim Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Does anyone seriously think Sting doesn't deserve to get in? Isn't he already in with The Police?
UNICORN VOMIT Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Does anyone seriously think Sting doesn't deserve to get in? He is more known for his tantric sex rather than solo career
brie Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I am confused and disappointed by GDA. I don't understand why nothing has been done to promote voting for Green Day. Isn't this a Green Day FAN website? We all know that they will probably get in and it isn't necessary to vote. But, this is a show of support for our guys. We need to show Rolling Stone that GDA is still a force to be reckoned with! Come on!.......someone on the GDA staff!!! Do something! Please! Hold a vote-a-thon or something! What happened to that spirit that GDA used to have? Come on Andres! Show everyone once again just how powerful GDA still is! And Show Green Day that we are still here for them! They want us to vote! They must be sick looking at those results. I know I would be if I were them. You have the power to put them on the top. Or maybe you have lost your spirit.
Spike Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Yeah, fuck those GDA bastards! This is all your fault
