lizziebix Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The Faces? Never even heard of them, so they can't have been very good. Because anything recorded before you were born is shit? Yeah, no. Ian McLagan maybe an asshole but Faces and Small Faces were good in their time period.
Idlewild. Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 GDC Butthurt Wars presents: Ian McLagan '14 vs Brandon Flowers '06 Will history repeat itself? Which one had the better argument? Only time shall tell. Obligatory:
Iain Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Two things I learned in this thread. Who the fuck is Ian McLagan and why should I care? Andres is very wise. I can't count worth shit.
KGLWW Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Is this even real? Who says something like that in an interview? Who even prints a quote like that? I'm guessing he didn't know it was going to be printed? Just an off the cuff thing? Maybe? Very bizzare thing to say. I thought Rod Stewart's bands were always kinda overrated anyway, so I don't really care it was him that said it. Confused as to why he would hate those bands that much tho. It's not like green day's music is the opposite of classic rock. Hell guns and roses is classic rock and there are a hell of a lot more worse artists to dislike. Maybe green day doesn't quite fit the mold of current rock n roll hall of fame members. That's why I hope it takes awhile for them to get in so it will be more special, but you can't really say they haven't accomplished less than the average member already in the hall. I almost hope green day doesn't get in until almost their last year of eligiblity because we saw all of the kiss fans enjoying their induction actually at the induction too this past year without all the hate of their past critics. 10-20 years ago it might have been different for them. Green Day could be kinda of a shitty indiction if it happens in just a few years. If they do get inducted next year I hope they just play songs they've like never played live before and songs that are the most explicit. It would be totally a fuck you to all the critics and a big thank you to the most hardcore of fans.

If they weren't then pop culture media would be very fucking boring.
justcause Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I thought it was a really nice interview - guy talks in depth and with great love about making music, his life experiences, the greats he appreciates. At the end, they put his story about the Hall of Fame - he had a migraine, he hadn't eaten, he's seated 15 feet from the stage, a band he doesn't particularly like are playing loud, and he had a big reaction to it. He says 'it was as much 'cause of the migraine as anything'. I'd personally cut him some slack about it.

I could really care less if it was boring to you. What is enjoyable too you, I know makes most people want to point a gun to their own head. To me good honest ethical journalism is enjoyable.
jakdokinori Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 As wise as the guy as, and as entitled to his opinion as he is...he hasn't got a fucking clue about Green Day.

To me good honest ethical journalism is enjoyable. Oh, I didn't say I find it enjoyable. What I'm saying is if it was all positive media then it wouldn't be interesting at all, let alone a good thing in itself. To the yin, must come the yang, to the cream, must come the cheese, and to the height of new love must come irritable bowel syndrome.
localinsomniac Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Guy who gets paid for clickbait says something provocative, people react, guy gets $$$$$$. Care not for the opinions of others, for they are invariably morons. And work for Salon. For the way they troll Patton Oswalt, fuck Salon in the face.
Akshat Jain Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 So I take it they played the entirety of Dos as their set... Dos is great.... it seems like he was expecting some weeping of JUSTIN BIEBER.... but they are green day...and they are best in the world.. and in Rock and Roll hall of fame ... if you don't expect rock then what you expect???
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 How does some offhanded comment from some has-been twat about the HOF induction turn into a debate about the state of the news industry? GDC, you never cease to amaze.
UNICORN VOMIT Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Dos is great.... it seems like he was expecting some weeping of JUSTIN BIEBER.... but they are green day...and they are best in the world.. and in Rock and Roll hall of fame ... if you don't expect rock then what you expect??? I am so glad you joined GDC
Akshat Jain Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I am so glad you joined GDC I'm also honored to join such an amazing place.!!! CheeRS!!
Hermione Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Hah! Grumpy old man Eh, people falling for obvious clickbait is a pet peeve of mine. That's all. The full quote about Green Day is in the OP so there wasn't even any need to click the link to be able to comment on it, I doubt that most people in this thread bothered (not that it actually matters if they did).
JellyTime Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I don't care about it. He doesn't seem to be a person worthy of attention.
Kayfabe Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 But he doesn't have a gun, so our beloved band are alive and well. See? If you love Green Day you support prohibiting firearm ownership!!! But for real, piece of shit nobodies who take themselves way too seriously and go way too far really need to stop breathing. It's a real tragedy that this brings him publicity because it's a really cunty thing to say
FoxyTwitch Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Interesting. Though why he wants an award for both the Small Faces and the Faces is a mystery, just because of a slight name change and lineup difference, though both were equally awful I suppose.
SaintJimmyvdBlom Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 This discussion is so bullshit, look at this guy, nobody knows who the fuck this guy is.. And doesn't even states that he hates Green Day. The guy says his migraine made him incapable of judging Green Day (not that anyone should give a damn about his opinion..)
Wouter1994 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 He should pull a bullet in his own head. So he can't get Migraine anymore!
Beathe. Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 He just makes himself sound very unintelligent. You don't like someone's music, how does it make sense to you to start talking about killing them? What a moron.
