Amanda Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 No, Green Day and One Direction are different genres, and usually, people who like Pop generally don't like rock and vice versa. When One Direction covered Teenage Kicks and One Way or Another it wasn't really a big deal. The Undertones and Blondie did it better, but there have always been covers and always will be. The best way of looking at it is there will be a nice bit of extra royalties for the songwriters.
solongfromthestars Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I don't give a shit about 1D either way, but it's nice to see some appreciation for the band regardless of where it comes from. Lol @ people freaking out over people complaining when no one's even complained yet Well, half of the drama in GD Chat is people claiming there's drama when there's one negative post
Florence Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I couldn't care less about 1D but appreciation is always nice like Maria Gloria has said^ I don't give a shit about 1D either way, but it's nice to see some appreciation for the band regardless of where it comes from. Same!
Akshat Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 I don't hate their music at all. In fact, I teally like Teenage Kicks, Story of My Life and Best Song Ever.(Two of which are rip offs)They have also done some great covers, like the Teenage Dirtbag one. But I don't appreciate this popularity since they don't write, compose or produce their music. Gone are the days when music was not about the looks. But then, at such a young age, they've achieved a lot. I also hate the fact that they're compared to Justin Beiber and Nicky Minaj.
moonflower93 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 meh, i really don't care if 1D covers GD, since they did say they liked GD? and i know all (most?) covers are supposed to be different.

I am going to stop you right there because they do in fact participate in writing their songs. Their first album, hell no, but their past two albums they have gotten more and more involved with how their albums sound because they're less pop-/teeny-bop and have grown up. They've only gotten so popular at a young age because of their first album being hugely written and produced to appeal to the masses. Now they're trying to do their own thing and be in control as much as they could possibly be.
Akshat Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 I think JB and Nicki are pretty good comparisons if you're looking at how they're marketed. I could be wrong, but I think both Justin and (especially) Nicki have a bigger involvement in the creation of their music, but the audience they're making their money from is the same, so you could possibly group the three together. For conversation's sake there's nothing wrong with disliking an artist. I don't like or listen to 1D. It's just stupid to make assumptions about them because they're pop.Justin Beiber was such a talent and its a shame to see him ending up the way he did. His youtube covers were pretty good. For a 13 year old, he was great. But things got worse when he was discovered. As far as Nicky Minaj is concerned, there was no music ever. Its a shame. There are girls out there trying to make ends meet without showing off their ass. I feel bad for those girls. You have musicians playing music on the road for the love of it, muaicians like Pussy Riot showing courage at every level, and then there is Nicky Minaj.
Crimpshrine Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Oh my fucking god. I they make this like Teenage Kicks form the Undertones a single or something like that I think billie gonna kick some ass.!! really hard.! Fucking pop shit!!
Amanda Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Life becomes a lot more simple when you listen to the music you like and ignore the shit you don't.
Steven Seagull Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 You know what's more annoying than bandwagon fans? Bandwagon haters.
Alan86 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 You know what's more annoying than bandwagon fans? Bandwagon haters. Im with you on that one, Fuck Bandwagon haters, i hate those assholes going around hating things
Akshat Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Nicki writes her own music. I'm not even a fan and I know that. Justin is responsible for one the most sexually obsessive fan bases to exist in music. He's made more money from hormonal teenage girls with eyes for his old image than he has done from any of his songwriting (take his recent flops as examples). Lost the image, and he's lost the success. Hardly a better example than Nicki. The best song Nicky would have ever written is: You a hoe You a dirty hoe Hoe hoe hoe That's not even writing. But I guess once you're popular, there's shit thrown at you and you've got to accept it.

Akshat Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 So if Elvis didn't write his songs does that mean other shouldn't either?
Fuzz Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 http://i.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/photoshop/5/0/5/157505_v1.jpgYeah, but most people don't think One Direction songs will be remembered as classics in 60 years. There's a reason Elvis got the praise he has.
Guest Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Yeah, but most people don't think One Direction songs will be remembered as classics in 60 years. There's a reason Elvis got the praise he has. Because he stole music from other artists and performed it in a sexually provocative manner to sell records to baby boomers who kickstarted one of the biggest cultural revolutions in history? Elvis didn't do anything new with music, hell he couldn't even play guitar. 100% image.
oda Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 teenage fangirls are pretty much the foundation of the music industry anyways so sit down
Guest Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 So if Elvis didn't write his songs does that mean other shouldn't either? No, just showing that music has always been about image.
Hermione Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 A successful pop band covering a Green Day song is harmless, and will mean more people hear and appreciate the song and will discover the original. The best song Nicky would have ever written is: You a hoe You a dirty hoe Hoe hoe hoe That's not even writing. But I guess once you're popular, there's shit thrown at you and you've got to accept it. I think that's actually the simplest example of something she's written that you can think of . I'm not a big fan of hers but she's clearly written better and more complicated lyrics than that, to dismiss her as the same as someone who doesn't write anything is pretty ridiculous when she writes her own stuff and is skilled at rapping (even if she's not exactly the best of her genre). What do Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber have to do with this topic though? They don't have anything to do with One Direction and definitely don't have anything to do with One Direction covering a Green Day song.
Guest Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 WMUWSE is basically a pop-rock song anyway. As were those two other "punk" songs they covered, Teenage Kicks and One Way Or Another. If you called The Undertones a punk band Feargal Sharkey would probably laugh in your face.
Akshat Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 No, just showing that music has always been about image. Because people heard Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Beatles and ABBA because some band member got their oestrogen levels up.
Hermione Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Because people heard Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Beatles and ABBA because some band member got their oestrogen levels up. The point is Elvis and many other iconic performers didn't write any of their own music. They were just good singers and performers who looked good and had charisma. Writing songs has never been the only important thing in music.

She may have, it might be You a hoe I'm a hoe Lets go fuck each other Honestly, its not about her songwriting. The thing is there are better songwriters and musicians than her in every corner of the globe but nobody would have noticed her until she showed that giant ass of hers. Was just trying to make a point
Backyard Skulls Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I remembered when I cared about hating other bands with a burning passion :')
