The Disappearing Boy Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 If nothing else, this album is bringing attention back to Green Day, which is no bad thing
Spike Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Kerrang!: Today is your LAST DAY to buy #KerrangAmericanIdiot before the new issue of Kerrang! comes out tomorrow. Even Chris Jericho - WWE Universe has got a copy! Is it really sad that I'm freaking out that Chris Jericho likes Green Day?
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 That just shows how bad the album is really. If I could rep this twice I would.
greendepent Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I don't like drop-D tunned guitars. Sounds awful in this kind of music.
Guest Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I don't like drop-D tunned guitars. Sounds awful in this kind of music. Restless Heart Syndrome is in drop-D. Drop-D is fine if you use it right. Unfortunately every screamo band does it exactly the same way: the wrong way.

Tubbie Head Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I stiil have listened none of those songs...say, do I miss something if I do not ? Yes, you do actually. You'll miss all the laughing it'll produce.
Sauli Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Yes, you do actually. You'll miss all the laughing it'll produce. Yes laughing is actually just what I need right now to brighten my mood
The Disappearing Boy Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I stiil have listened none of those songs...say, do I miss something if I do not ? Yeah give it a listen. It's not quite as bad as some on here say it is.
Sauli Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 A song by song commentary while listening to it for the first and only time (in other words Im bored) Ok, American Idiot is not too horrible but whats up with those voice effects though those backing vocals in the chorus are a good idea. Jesus of Suburbia honestly follows the original pretty much...and so it is worse of course but not actually horrible. But very boring version. The singer sounds strained when he sings the high notes. And lacks power. Omg those effect after the last "I dont care" are very annoying. Whats up with that horrible low screaming I hate that singing style so fuck...actually that version sucks ass. Its quite like the original and their own additions only make it worse. The singers over-emotional phrasing gets on my nerves too. Holiday...the timing is a bit different...and it makes it sound like it could fall apart every given second. But otherwise quite listenable. AND AGAIN SCREAMING my ears bleed. WHY?? Bouleward Of Broken Dreams... Youtube does not have it and im too bored to look for it more. Are We the Waiting is a good cover, and does not pale when compared with the original. I like how it is not as overblown as the original, it feels more personal without the crowd vocals. But I never dug the song much in the first place. It could actually be an improvement over the original. So Tom, I see your point St. Jimmy is very slick. But it is pretty much like the original so i guess its ok. As far as there is no screaming I like the solo. Give Me Novacaine... I hoped they would have done it without those stupid distorted guitars in the chorus but the effect they use is even more annoying. I like the backing vocals and that slide (is it slide?) guitar line though. And the singers pronouncation is far more clear than Billie Joe's. The solo was a nice add too. She's a Rebel WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS. That middle part otherwise very generic version but honestly makes no sense Extraordinary Girl is at least pretty original version I actually dig it a bit. Based on your comments i thought it would be far more horrible. It just is, quite, well, psychedelic. Remind me actually all of that hippie stuff I love At least its not boring or generic. Letterbomb is decent, though the singers voice is a bit annoying. Those backing vocals are ok though. Not bad at all. Wake Me Up When September End...the start of it is promising. Quite atmospheric and all. Nice effects too. BUT. That screaming is so annoying. They completely destroy the whole song. I will never understand the appeal of vocals of that kind. I would laugh but this too horrible to laugh at. Utter shit Homecoming stars promisingly. I like his voice. Nothing else to add really. Sounds quite like the original which means it not very original. His voice reminds me of Bruce though sometimes and Bruce Springsteen sucks ass. (His own). The guitars of Nobody Likes You are awesome though. Honestly. His voice is sexy... Just if i could forget Bruce... Whatsername is generic and all those tricks they do to make it more emotional are kinda cheesy. The biggest problem is the singer over-emotional singing. Why does everyone sing like that And that screaming again. Fuck. And that ending is odd.
Davis Weiss Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 They should have asked All Time Low to do a song. It probably would've ended up being the best on the album. I would have liked to hear them do Give me Novocain. I can picture their cover sounding kinda like Me Without You
AmyxLongview Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I would have liked to hear them do Give me Novocain. I can picture their cover sounding kinda like Me Without You Yeah! Alex's voice would have worked really well with that song
Drain Bramaged Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I'm not sure why there's such a low standard for punk and metal bands nowadays, a why Kerrang continues to give publicity and attention to bands that simply don't deserve it. It's not like there aren't any good punk bands anymore either, they just like putting big glossy pictures of posers with lots of makeup and tattoos on the front of their magazine. I'm not sure how someone with fully functioning ears could enjoy Falling in Reverse either... I thought they couldn't get any worse when I heard their Gangsta's Paradise cover on 'Punk Goes 90s' (another sad example of the low standards for punk/metal bands) but their version of She's a Rebel is straight out disgraceful. I didn't even like the original song that much, but Falling in Reverse have really butchered it. One of the saddest points about the album is that 5 Seconds Of Summer did one of the most decent covers on the album. It's more poppy than the original and the vocals aren't really my cup of tea, but at least it's bearable - unlike eighty percent of the material on the album. Everything ranges from average (Holiday by The Blackout, Whatsername by New Politics) to totally awful (Escape the Fate's Give Me Novocain, St. Jimmy by Bowling For Soup [why do they still exist?]). American Idiot = butchered. Rant over.
Hermione Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 While playing highlights and lowlights of this to my sister I noticed that in Falling In Reverse's She's A Rebel he sings "She's the salt ON the Earth", making their cover even more ridiculous. Also the other day I wore a Green Day top and the guy serving me in the supermarket was impressed, and mentioned that he was gutted he didn't manage to get a copy of this CD lol. I told him he wasn't missing much.
moonflower93 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 the more i listen the harder i laugh at this fail
JOE THE X-KID Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I don't like drop-D tunned guitars. Sounds awful in this kind of music. its like the best tuning ever

WhiteTim Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I hear Reprise is going to stop releasing Green Days version of American Idiot and is replacing it with Kerrangs version
UNICORN VOMIT Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Today went on the radio the cover of "American Idiot" is done by 5stm I almost puked again They are Aussies & I have listened to the album but as soon as he said subliminal - I skipped it - it sounded so awkward
DannyDirnt Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I like 5SOS's version. The original is much better, but I find their cover pretty good. Then again I do like 5SOS.
