Shondells
I don't really see what people don't like about Jesus Of Suburbia. I'd never choose to listen to it over the original, but it's pretty good. Could have been a lot worse, I didn't expect them to bother putting the subtle piano fills in there, the backing vocals are pretty damn good, and the vibe is there. It seems a bit more chilled out in a way, despite the energetic performance, but I really think it works. That blast beat towards the end is pretty cool too And the screaming, while kind of out of place, was very well used. I found it bland for the first two thirds and the drums sounded like they came from a bad drum machine. It picks up a bit towards the end, but I'm not rushing back to hear it again...there are better songs on there.
Iva
i'm emotionally attached to the songs too. especially whatsername, and i loved the cover. and even if i had hated the cover, i wouldn't care. i understand having an attachment to something, but someone doing a shitty cover of a song you love doesn't destroy the emotional attachment or the orignal song itself. like i said, the original is still there. you can listen to it and reminisce all you want. a lot of people on this forum are way too stuck up about music today, and i will openly judge them for that if i want to, because music is a really dumb thing to be stuck up about especially since music taste is all subjective. i didn't particularly enjoy most of the songs on this album, but i could understand why others could. in the end, i don't know why people CARE. you should be happy that people think green day is even worth doing a tribute album for. Err, I've been into Green Day for almost two decades now and I most certainly don't go to forums to call other people this or that as my primary motivation. I was trying to point out a trend I keep on seeing recently. But OK, whatever.

Iva
I did notice that too, as a lot of Kerrang!-esque bands are formulaic and appealing only to very young people. Music elitism makes no sense overall, but people dismissing all new stuff or all old stuff as bad are wrong. I've seen both in this thread. (and yes, your first reply makes more sense when I'm properly awake, as opposed to just out of bed - my bad)
GDM
No, it's not ironic. Kind of ironic that you'd use the word faggot as an insult when quoting it from a song where it's being used to stand defiantly against people who use it as an insult though. Haha, I thought the same when I listened to his review. I actually turned it off right after that, lol. I'm finally listening to the full album now. The songs I have heard though... "meh" is right. Though I do like a few of them.

peppermint butler
I actually like the american idiot cover by 5sos. It was kinda cool, (but I put the originals out of my head to listen to this) thanks to frank, I cannot sleep.
Beathe.
Hear the whole thing today. Didn't like American Idiot, BOBD and Extraordinary Girl. The other songs were okay. Liked JOS and St. Jimmy the best.
jetpackblues
I think the reason JOS made me slightly uncomfortable is because it's one of my favourite Green Day songs, and I don't think anyone else can do it justice.
Fuzz
Posted up my full review up on GDA. Overall gave the album a 2/5. Check it out http://www.greendayauthority.com/news/4881/
AmyxLongview
They should have asked All Time Low to do a song. It probably would've ended up being the best on the album.

watchmefade92
UM OKAY WOW HERE WE GO Why does everyone hate Frank's cover!? Jesus fucking christ, give it a chance. In my opinion, it's much better than some of the other...music...on there. Jeez. And as a musician himself (listen to Joyriding and This Song Is A Curse) he's pretty damn good. I think it's one of the best songs on the compilation. Actually, the first time I listened to it, I didn't like it all, so yes, you really have to give it a chance. It's much deeper than all those lame ass punk pop covers. The original version of "Extraordinary Girl" already has this hauting spirit which Frank Iero brought to a whole new level. It's dark, eerie, chilling and at the same time romantic, almost gentle with some Disney-like elements. Could be the soundtrack to a really dark gothic version of Alice in Wonderland or something. jetpackblues
And if anyone doesn't like Frank Iero's cover just because you don't hink he can sinmg, listen to this and then tell me he can't sing: I don't want to sound like an obsessed fangirl or anything, but he actually has a decent voice. Fuzz
I'm positive no one is doubting his ability to sing, but you can barely even hear him singing because of all the goddamn effects he used.
Ryan
You said that nobody can compete with Billie Joe's vocals. Um yes they can. His voice is good for Green Day, but he's not Frank Sinatra. He sings from his nose and doesn't pronounce the full words. I like his voice but saying that nobody can compete with him is just plain stupid and it's something only a fanboy would say. Billie's vocal techniques are actually really fucking good...starting with Warning and getting better and better through AI and 21st CB. His diction and pronunciation of words is actually remarkable. As a classically trained vocalist, I believe I'm educated enough on the topic to talk about it. When I turned one of my friends onto GD (he graduated from Juliard and has been on Broadway), his first comment was about how great Billie's technique was...especially his diction. I think that "Murder City" is probably the best example of this. The majority of people (in the US), in speech and singing, do not properly pronounce the ending of words that end in "ed." Billie is flawless when it comes to this. "We've come so far we've been so wasted." As opposed to "we've come so far we've been so wastid." It's little thinks like this that make a huge difference and is testament to the vocal coaching that he has gone through. As to your BoBD comment, the proper way to sing the phrase in question would be "'til then I waw-kalone." By difinitively breaking up the phrase and singing "walk alone" with a clean break between the words, you would be breaking apart the musical flow of the phrase. Sorry if any of this was getting too technical, but I kind of had all this shit drilled into my head for the past 15 years

Jon Benjamin
They should have asked All Time Low to do a song. I like how you assume that no one has heard this already. This isn't hater-ville here. I've loved MCR for as long as I've loved Green Day, which (if your listed age is correct) is about as long as you've been alive. And I've seen them both live close to a dozen times each. I have heard "This Song is a Curse". I've heard Leathermouth. I've heard Pencey Prep. I heard the little EPs he's put out as a solo artist. I heard Frank rapping the fucking Fresh Prince of Bel-Air at the Electric Factory. And I caught Leathermouth live when they were opening up for MSI. I even nearly went to see The Lovecats at Asbury Lanes, but couldn't make it. I am not remotely ignorant of this man, nor do I in any way hate him, but he's really not impressive as a vocalist at all. And I find his version of Extraordinary Girl laughable. You don't have to agree with me or anyone else on that, but you can stop with the "if you knew Frank like I knew Frank" schtick.

And I'll stop defending the artists I like if everyone on this fucking forum stops with their "you're 12 you know nothing about music" schtick. Except that no one said that? I said that I've been listening to both bands for most of your life, as in "hey, this is a long-ish amount of time", and I said, likewise, that you didn't have to agree with my or anyone else's opinion. But oh wait, I guess that's insulting and degrading to your intelligence to say that you can have an opinion different than me. I'm sorry, I won't do it again A lot of the people who think Frank can't sing, think as they do because they've heard him in other things before this. And even the ones who haven't aren't suddenly going to change their minds about "Extraordinary Girl" after being presented with an entirely different song made in an entirely different style that has large spoken-word sections. This is my point. And as far as Frank's credibility as an artist is concerned, there's nothing for you to defend, as no one insulted him in the first place, apart from saying the cover was shit.
