Kerrang doing American Idiot tribute album

If you honestly think he can't sing.... I don't know what to tell you. :P

You said that nobody can compete with Billie Joe's vocals. Um yes they can. His voice is good for Green Day, but he's not Frank Sinatra. He sings from his nose and doesn't pronounce the full words. I like his voice but saying that nobody can compete with him is just plain stupid and it's something only a fanboy would say.

5 Seconds of Summer censored the word 'faggot'. The irony.

How is that ironic?

Billie himself has said a lot of things. :P

"The Trilogy is our greatest work to date."

I meant nobody on this tribute album can compete with him. Yes I'm a fan, so naturally I'm going to say good things about him. Also, a person physically cannot sing through their nose. :P

UM OKAY WOW HERE WE GO

Why does everyone hate Frank's cover!? Jesus fucking christ, give it a chance. In my opinion, it's much better than some of the other...music...on there. Jeez. And as a musician himself (listen to Joyriding and This Song Is A Curse) he's pretty damn good.

Also I wasn't impressed with Rise To Remain.

Like 99 Revolutions being one of the best songs he's ever written?

I like how I was able to listen to this without the prejudice that half of you lot had

I don't think 5SOS's cover is that bad but whatever.

"The Trilogy is our greatest work to date."

Yeah, but that's true.

Did he say that? I thought he said it was one of the most fun albums to make to date.

Yeah, but that's true.

BURN HIM!!!!!

you guys are so fucking dramatic. obviously the songs aren't going to be as good as the originals. who cares. the originals are still there and you can still listen to them to your heart's content. someone covering the song won't take that away from you.

anyways, i didn't think any of them were super bad. personally i didn't enjoy some of them but i could see why people might. the bobd cover was probably my favorite although i don't like the guy's voice at all. and i think 5sos completely butchered the american idiot riff but otherwise i guess it was ok (even though i hate them). i also really liked escape the fate's give me novacaine, but i like escape the fate so. oh and i really liked whatsername.

besides that, nothing really stands out, but they weren't awful. besides maybe wmuwse...

We did give it a chance, obviously, as we listened to it. What a dumbass thing to say :P Unless by "give it a chance", you mean "pretend to like something that we don't."

No one here that I've seen has made fun of or even insulted Frank's talents as a musician (as a vocalist, yes, but musician, no). If you go back to the earlier pages of this thread, you'll see that lots of people were excited for his involvement more than a lot of the other artists. But expectations and reality don't always line up, and just because people respect Frank as an artist doesn't mean they're going to love everything he does or that they even have to. In *your* opinion, it's not half bad and is better than some of the other songs on the album. In my and a lot of others' opinions, it's shit. End of story.

Posted

Yeah, I mean I love Frank and I think he's an exceptional guitarist but that cover was something else. That doesn't mean I respect him any less, it's just not my thing.

Posted

I don't like the opener, but I have to respect those people because they follow my vision of a better world full of fluffy and cuddly with their #ewokalypse meme.

Still trying to recover from She's A Rebel...

...then I can proceed with the rest of the album.

People are emotionally attached to some songs and while they may take it too far sometimes, why judge them? Not cool.

Okay to get some butts hurt here.. I guess BFS shouldn't have covered St. Jimmy, BFS always puts a smile on my face (or a tear with songs like When We Die), St. Jimmy has this more aggressive image to me.. Of course I understand it's a cover song and all and BFS has their own style (which is awesome).

Solution granted though, I guess we all can agree WMUWSE by the Defiled isn't great, though I guess Jaret could succeed in these kind of sensitive songs (again looking at a song like When We Die).

Except from the lame drum "solo" that american idiot cover sounds great to me :o

I don't really see what people don't like about Jesus Of Suburbia. I'd never choose to listen to it over the original, but it's pretty good. Could have been a lot worse, I didn't expect them to bother putting the subtle piano fills in there, the backing vocals are pretty damn good, and the vibe is there. It seems a bit more chilled out in a way, despite the energetic performance, but I really think it works. That blast beat towards the end is pretty cool too  And the screaming, while kind of out of place, was very well used.

It's the screaming that puts me off. I thought the last two parts were pretty good though. I'll have to give it another listen.

I have nightmare every night with Frank Iero :(

i'm emotionally attached to the songs too. especially whatsername, and i loved the cover. and even if i had hated the cover, i wouldn't care. i understand having an attachment to something, but someone doing a shitty cover of a song you love doesn't destroy the emotional attachment or the orignal song itself. like i said, the original is still there. you can listen to it and reminisce all you want.

a lot of people on this forum are way too stuck up about music today, and i will openly judge them for that if i want to, because music is a really dumb thing to be stuck up about especially since music taste is all subjective. i didn't particularly enjoy most of the songs on this album, but i could understand why others could. in the end, i don't know why people CARE. you should be happy that people think green day is even worth doing a tribute album for.

Finally gave this a listen. A mixed bag, mostly meh but some good and some bad. Absolute abominations are American Idiot (how is it being defended?!), She's A Rebel (the breakdown bit was amusing but the rest terrible), and Extraordinary Girl (props for making it different but could it sound any more hideous? Unlistenable). But I think Jesus Of Suburbia, Wake Me Up When September Ends and Holiday are pretty decent, cool to hear them a bit harder. Whatsername and BOBD are alright as well. The rest is boring.

5 Seconds of Summer censored the word 'faggot'. The irony.

No, it's not ironic. Kind of ironic that you'd use the word faggot as an insult when quoting it from a song where it's being used to stand defiantly against people who use it as an insult though.

Because I listened to it and it sounded awful, the horrible crying type noises he was making literally made me wince.
