Anaïs. Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Is it bad that I like 5SOS's cover more than Bowling for Soup's? Not that I really care for either, mind you.
Isabel Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I don't know how anyone could think that a cover album by whatever screamo bands are "in" this week could ever do justice to one of the finest albums of the Noughties. I presume The Swellers are an exception to this, young man!? Seriously though, those guys are awesome and the guitarist [Ryan] is a MASSIVE Green Day fan and has a GD sleeve on his arm. WE HAVE THE SAME TATTOO YOU KNOW.

frunsi Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Neck Deep's rendition of Boulevard Of Broken Dreams is surprisingly good, I really dig what they did with the intro. State Champs' Welcome To Paradise is decent but kinda meh. Basket Case by The Swellers is pretty cool, as I expected. Haven't bothered to check out the rest because I strongly dislike all of those bands.
Jollyroger118 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 This is awesome! Hope more songs will leak soon. Whatsername is my favorite so far. And what Frank did with Extraordinary Girl is just unreal! What make it suck?
The Disappearing Boy Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Is it bad that I like 5SOS's cover more than Bowling for Soup's? Not that I really care for either, mind you. No coz it's better
Fuzz Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Half way through right now. It's really not terrible. It's no where near as good as the originals, but I didn't expect it to be. Questionable styles of music so far, but it's not horrible. So far.
Spike Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I don't understand the decision for a band to cover American Idiot and remove a chord from every bar of the most iconic and instantly recognisable rock riff in the last 10 years. It ruins it and gives it an annoying groove, beyond that it might not be too bad.
moonflower93 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 This really isn't as bad as people say... Give me Novacaine is really good, and WMUWSE isn't that bad. i HATED wmuwse. it was the WORST. next to fir's cover ... i can say give me novacaine was good.
The Disappearing Boy Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Just listened to bobd. The solo is pretty good, but it's not my style of music.

Spike Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Meh it's not too bad. It's not like it makes it completely unrecognisable. I know, it just makes it weird and annoying instead.

It ruins it and gives it an annoying groove, beyond that it might not be too bad. I'm assuming they did it to make the riff sound more "punchy". I actually think that American Idiot is the 2nd best song on this album. But I agree with you.
Fuzz Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Alright, finished listening. Each song individually (with the exception of the monstrosity that is Extraordinary Girl by Frank Iero), they're all ok. A few standouts were Homecoming, Whatsername, American Idiot, and She's A Rebel. She's A Rebel is amazing with that breakdown. Seriously, kudos to them for going all meta on it. Bowling For Soup cover could have been great. But the production seemed really shitty. For a song like letterbomb, it felt like it was lacking any real power. I really liked the style of Whatsername. Very nice original take on it, and I thought it sounded great. I gave the overall thing a 6/10. I think all the artists are capable in their genre, they seem like good musicians, but the harder style of most songs with screaming and double-kick bass drum seems so out of place in a Green Day tribute.
AmyxLongview Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Nobody can compete with Billie Joe's vocals, especially on this album. They're just so good!
Bob2123 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 St.Jimmy by Bowling For Soup was actually good. The only one I truly have an issue with is Extraordinary Girl. Most of it sounds like it was recorded under water lol
tdlyon Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I'm just going to continue living my life pretending this never happened
gerardsangel4977 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 If anyone here can honestly say that the cover of "Extraordinary Girl" is good, I'm going on a rampage. It was different than I was expecting, as I feared Leathermouth style post-hardcore screaming throughout. But I can't decide now if that would have been better or worse than this....
Spike Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I actually think Neck Deep's BOBD would be a damn good song if I didn't know what it was like originally. I might actually check out their own stuff.

StuckWithDom Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 This made me appreciate the existence of green day a lot more
GugsGreenDay Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I wanted to find Frank Iero and ask who had the idea of what
