beejeezee Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 we're not in it this year WHAT. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS OK?
Asa. Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 WHAT. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS OK? MTV probably, those dickholes
beejeezee Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 MTV probably, those dickholes Bullshit, this is.
Guest Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Shock horror, a band that's been barely relevant for almost half a decade doesn't make it into a contest for the most relevant bands in the world.
beejeezee Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 There's a couple bands in there I've never even heard of.
Backyard Skulls Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Not surprising considering the trilogy sold terribly lol. Most of my friends who are casual fans had never heard of it, I doubt there were enough die hard fans around this time.

Tubbie Head Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Shock horror, a band that's been barely relevant for almost half a decade doesn't make it into a contest for the most relevant bands in the world. lol Tokio Hotel is soooo relevant. This has nothing to do with how relevant the bands are, it has to do with the fans voting. Was this even mentioned on the Green Day official site or GDA?
Backyard Skulls Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 They got in the last two years though, why should this year be any different?Maybe most green day fans don't care about winning a contest anymore? I remember the one a few years back, people lived in the thread and were constantly voting, most of the crazy fangirls seemed to have disappeared/not care. Yeah it would've been good to give them more recognition but almost all green day fans want the trilogy era to end and be forgotten about. I mean I only ever hear about tokio hotel when this contest shows up lol. It's not the end of the world that they're not in a contest
Tubbie Head Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Yeah, I really miss the days GDC would unite to get Green Day some pointless MTV award! (BTW this is not a sarcastic comment)

Most of my friends who are casual fans had never heard of it, I doubt there were enough die hard fans around this time. Evanescence/ Amy lee is in, but there aren't too many voting this year either.. plus Amy 54/One Republic 46% Foo is losing like 60-40. Blink is barely winning now. Don't get me started on Tokio Hotel.
Akshat Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Its finally that time of the year that reminds me how jobless I am Go GD!
Guest Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Its finally that time of the year that reminds me how jobless I am Go GD! Don't know how to break this to you buddy but...
moonflower93 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Its finally that time of the year that reminds me how jobless I am Go GD! GD isn't in it this year sadly... but other good bands are.
Akshat Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Don't know how to break this to you buddy but... Just found out MTV, well.....
Hermione Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 no its the 1st year you had to nominate the bands I see! That's not so bad then, for all we know we would've always been too lazy to get them into the first round before all the excitement of the actual contest had started if they'd always done it this way
Hermione Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I think if it'd just started from the first round of voting (with us automatically in it ) like every other year we probably would've done alright. Voting against an enemy and watching the percentages of votes change is fun so we're motivated to do it. Whereas tweeting a sentence hoping to get in the first round just is a drag. Can't really compare it to other years when the way the contest is being run has changed.
Akshat Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 It's not really MTV's fault, it's the fault of the fans for not tweeting enough and getting the band nominated. its stupid to tweet for a band since in a way you're not voting for their awesomeness..MTV just wanted to promote their shit so they used the fans. Its like "Tweet about me or I won't nominate your band'.Why can't we just have voting like every time. Why do they have to fuck up everything all the time for no reason? They even fucked up the graphics and design. Its now a big fucking wheel where you try to figure out where exactly your band is.
21guns&novacaine Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Done, now if they do get in, it's back to the old voting every day thing... Hopefully they'll win this year! Go Green day!!!!
Hermione Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I don't think it's anyone's "fault" really. The contest is still fair/the same for everyone. Just turns out that GDC is up for fun voting but not up for boring tweeting so maybe this style of contest isn't for us. Bit of a shame but no one's done anything wrong.

You may think it's stupid to tweet for a band, but it's what was necessary to get Green Day into the first round - and the fans didn't do it. Simple as that. I'm sorry you're upset, but it's the fault of the fans for not complying with the new rules, not the fault of the rule-makers. The competition is still not fair since many bands are either inactive on twitter or don't have that many followers. A few bands even tweeted regarding the MMM about the nomination procedure but many did not. I do agree that the fans should have been a bit more participating though. Anyways, doesn't really matter. Next year, like always

Next year, like always It could be argued that MTV selecting a list of bands to vote on in the first round instead of letting people nominate them wasn't fair either though. The old way was more enjoyable for most people I'm sure so it was better in that respect, but in terms of fairness neither way is perfect. But yeah, we have a year to prepare ourselves for the labourious task of tweeting next time
Akshat Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 That's the spirit! Next year, too, fans will be prepared for possibly having to tweet their band into the competition. You ever know. They might ask us to do something more cartoonish the next time :/
Sirens-of-Decay Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Kind of unfair that they made it a tweet thing. Not many people have twitter, but would still like to vote for their favourite band, which is why GD probably didn't make it in. Also, I kind of assumed it was like any other year, where they selected the bands, and didn't even check if I had to tweet anything.
