AngelBlue_ Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Like doing the Everly Brothers album! I hope this will somehow affect the next Green Day record. For sure..dont know why but I think it will sound like surf rock or something, like Best Coast..or some like 195O/1960rock
beejeezee Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 For sure..dont know why but I think it will sound like surf rock or something, like Best Coast..or some like 195O/1960rock Jesus Christ no, I hate Best Coast. I hope they do something softer and more like the Everly Brothers, but with Billie's signature tone in there.

beejeezee Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 yeah a country-rock-folk album would be great I really just want Billie to do an acoustic album all by himself. It would be gorgeous!

beejeezee Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I really really hope it will happen someday.. I feel like he is going to do something with the songs for "These Paper Bullets." At least cover one of them, seeing as he wrote them and all.

I love how he is trying to do more things which are not Green Day related.. what if he'll start a solo project?

I love how he is trying to do more things which are not Green Day related.. what if he'll start a solo project? All of this experimental side stuff could be a start to a solo project. Or him appearing on broadway again, who knows. The next tour he could bring out a song or two from this, and the Everly Brothers album as well.
Heather. Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Anyone who is familiar with Broadway and theater business... how long would a show typically take to "go to Broadway"? (If that were to be the case for this...) Because it's only scheduled to be at Yale Rep for a few weeks, and then it could be a relatively fast transition to NY, no? I mean, if they have a theater in mind and all... I know Idina Menzel's musical was in workshops in DC in December, and then they had a month of rehearsal, and now they're in previews on Broadway just 3 months later... so theoretically, if it's "good" and has $$ behind it, this thing could be on Broadway by summer. Excited to hear the song "Keep You Satisfied" referenced in the caption. Always a good title.

Heather. Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Will it even be good enough for Broadway? I mean, plenty of shitty musicals wind up on Broadway. And then they close quickly. If you have famous names behind it and money, it's good enough for Broadway, if only for two months. This one has an established Repertory behind it, a Pulitzer-nominated writer, a Tony-nominated/Grammy-winner songwriter, and Tom Kitt was involved. The actors are experienced. I think it would have a shot. ETA: Though I guess it's technically a play and not a musical. At least, the director said it's not a musical. Would be interesting to see how it's branded, though. Jersey Boys has the same non-musical technique, but everyone thinks of it as a musical. Of course, that one probably has a lot more songs, but it's presented in the same way.

I love how he is trying to do more things which are not Green Day related.. what if he'll start a solo project? I don't know about the solo project. Movies and theater is awesome. Recording an Everly Brothers album, I can even understand because was something that he really liked but I wouldn't like to see him alone, you know? The chemical of Billie, Mike and Tre is what is all about. Billie's cute, mike's adorable, Tre's incredible but they only are awesome together.

desertrose Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Cue Mr. Armstrong, for whom Mr. Jones is writing a film adaptation of the stage musical “American Idiot” (based on the Green Day album), and who happens to be a pop music scholar of sorts as well as a tireless tunesmith. “Billie’s got this archive that he sits on — a bunch of songs that aren’t really appropriate for Green Day, and some of them sound like the Beatles,” Mr. Jones said recently, on a break from rehearsals in New Haven. “And he’s always writing new things.” Just a few days after their meeting, Mr. Jones received a demo recording of a brand-new tune from Mr. Armstrong, who warned him he’d eventually “have a plethora to choose from.” Mr. Armstrong, who had relished the experience of seeing “American Idiot” adapted for the stage, and even joined the cast for several weeks on Broadway, said in a recent phone interview that he jumped at the chance to write more for the theater: “I got so inspired. I was listening to all those early Beatles records, and I read the book ‘Revolution in the Head’ and just started banging these songs out.” The show’s new title comes from a line in the original (“quips and sentences and these paper bullets of the brain”), but it earned the approval of Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Jones said. “He was like, ‘Dude, I don’t know what it means, but it sounds punk rock.’ ” http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/16/theater/these-paper-bullets-a-shakespeare-beatles-pastiche.html?_r=1

With proper funding (which this would undoubtedly have) things can move pretty quickly. A lot of it also depends on feedback and changes that the creative team wants to make. Maybe one song didn't have the impact they wanted it to and they decide to make a change...stuff like that. Remember with the AI previews that Matt Caplan ended up being replaced (in the role of Tunny) by Stark Sands...which was an absolutely necessary and great decision. So stuff like that can all play into how quickly things move. I can pretty much guarantee that this show would get red carpet treatment to Broadway based solely on Billie's name.
GDM Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Yale Rep canceled tonight's first preview this morning. The previews will start Saturday, 3/15 now. I probably won't be able to see the show now. My ticket was for tonight. Not sure if my friend can reschedule all of the tickets she bought for tonight, lol.

GDM Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 did they give any reason? No. But most likely, technical aspects of the show aren't ready yet. Lights, music production, staging. It happens with previews. It's just a nightmare since a few people are actually flying in to see it tonight.
