Guest Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Actually I meant the very beginning of the intro, when there's only the guitar playing, it's clean Nah that's just before the other guitar comes in. Quote
mrduckygoosy Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Nah that's just before the other guitar comes in. Yes , but BJ keeps playing after that in live, so I guess he keeps the same tone but it's burried under the distorted guitar ? Quote

Spike Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 You're all overlooking the fact that Billie doesn't operate his own pedals, his guitar tech deals with them off-stage. 1 Quote

Spike Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 That doesn't count Well then. Oddly, the bits of American Idiot where the guitar plays on its own actually have more gain than the rest of the song. That's how they get the crunchy "radio" sound, then during the rest of the song the guitars are relatively clean. Quite an anomaly really, although the same goes for Holiday. 1 Quote

WhiteTim Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 idek what songs he would need them for. Any idea (besides the obvious wah on BOBD)? No clue I didn't really pay attention to the pedals during the actual show I had a foot injury so I couldn't stand so they sat me in a chair on Jason's side near the guitar tech that's where I saw the pedals I could tell the wah but couldn't make out the other two One could possibly be a channel switch pedal to switch amp settings Quote
Spike Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 Billie uses a Boss Blues Driver and a Boss EQ pedal, both of which are dealt with off-stage by the guitar tech. There's also a channel switcher between the Dookie modded Marshall head and a clean head. Jason has an MXR Phase 90 for BOBD, as well as a Gibson ES335 he has with an acoustic pickup, which runs through a Fishman acoustic pre-amp which is rack-mounted off-stage. He uses the acoustic simulator for BOBD, King For A Day, Jesus Of Suburbia and Minority. There's also a rack-mounted Chandler Little Devil Compressor which is just used for boosting during solos. Jason does have a few pedals on-stage, not sure what though beyond the wah. For anyone who's really into this kind of stuff, I'd really, really recommend setting half an hour aside and watching this. I found it absolutely fascinating. To get this back on track, because none of this has anything to do with Unpopular Opinions: The demo version of 99 Revolutions is one of the best things they've ever done. 1 Quote
Purple Haze Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 A boss overdrive and some acoustic simulator (For BOBD) I think Quote

I won't go that far, but I will say that that sound is far more interesting then the one found on the trilogy. Even if you'll never be able to fix the lyrics on these songs, it is sort of comforting to know that their songs have the ability to be at least partially redeemed with a simple switch in production values. 2 Quote

That key change. One of the best things they've ever done? Nah, sorry, Billie. Still a little too derivative of their previous stuff, and the chorus is still awful. But definitely a big improvement. Florence Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I love the acoustic Stay the Night version off Demolicious. It sounds so intimate. I'm glad Billie/ they decided to share it with us Quote

Hermione Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I think 99 Revolutions is the worst song on the trilogy (possibly unpopular), but I agree that it's amazing on Demolicious (definitely not unpopular). Blew my mind to hear it sounding so awesome. I don't think most of the other songs are better though, just cool in a different way. Which I suppose is the point of hearing demo versions. I love the acoustic Stay the Night version off Demolicious. It sounds so intimate. I'm glad Billie/ they decided to share it with us My thoughts exactly! It's like he's singing the song to himself rather than with an audience in mind so it sounds so personal. It's wonderful. 1 Quote
Hermione Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Please explain! I think it's one of the worst songs on Tre, but when I view it in the context of the Trilogy as a whole there are tons of others that beat it (in my opinion). Firstly it's among the blandest songs, but the thing that really puts it in last place is that it just doesn't fit with the albums. It's the least Uno Dos and Tre-y song on Uno Dos and Tre. It's more AI/21st CB like so I find myself comparing it to songs in the same vein on those albums, and they blow it out of the water. I still like it though, so it's not really that controversial haha. Quote

Hermione Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 To be fair, nothing on Tre really fits together. Messy album stylistically. Yeah moreso than the others. It does seem to have a theme of reflectiveness overall though, lots of songs that are calmer and more serious and tying up loose ends. I suppose it does technically fit with that, or could've fit near the beginning on Uno as a rallying cry, but it's just that subject matter seems so out of place when there aren't really any other songs that touch on it. Probably bothers me more just because they named the tour after it, least fitting song to pick for a tour supporting those albums 1 Quote
Z J Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 At least 99 Revs has solid verses, and lyrics with an actual purpose unlike half the trilogy. Quote
