Anaïs. Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 The Imperial March was ripped off of Antonin Dvorak's "New World Symphony", and the main title was blatantly stolen from Erich Korngold's 1941 theme to the film "King's Row", but yeah, you get the idea. I don't think there's anything artistic about stealing someone else's melody (or, in Williams' case, their entire song) and claiming it as your own. Chopin too: *shrugs* If Williams had gone on about what an original genius he was to invent the melodies that'd be one thing, but I don't think he's ever denied the huge influence other pieces had on the Star Wars score. And I don't think you could say that, say, "Blowin' in the Wind" isn't a work of art even though its melody is the exact same as "No More Auction Block". Williams didn't literally copy the exact same melody, he added his own touch. Can you seamlessly transition between the Throne Room scene and The New World? Well, up to a point, but they're still distinct pieces: The Kings Row thing is much closer, I'll admit, but I don't think you can take that and say Williams' entire career is worthless. 1 Quote

BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Is it unpopular to like Kill The DJ?Probably. I like it, though. Especially live. 1 Quote
Libertine Angel Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I didn't really like it much when I first heard it, but it grew on me and now I do. 1 Quote
Chin for a Day Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I agree with Jimmy. I didn't really like it at first but the more I listened to it the more I liked it. It has a cool beat. The lyrics are not stellar but it is a fun listen. 1 Quote
DannyDirnt Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Is it unpopular to like Kill The DJ? I never feel like listening to the studio version, but I think it does sound kickass live! Quote
Guest Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Is it unpopular to like Kill The DJ? Liking anything off the Shitrilogy (aside from a small selection of Uno tracks--Kill the DJ is not one of them) is not just unpopular, it's in poor taste. Quote
Anaïs. Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Is it unpopular to like Kill The DJ? The general consensus is that the lyrics suck ass but that's it's one of the best things on the Trilogy musically, which I agree with. Not to overplug Dookiefied Guitars, but the one thing the song is really crying out for is distorted guitars; the album version sounds horribly weak with clean tone, but dirty it up a bit and it becomes the most powerful thing on the Trilogy. It also disguises the filters quite well. 3 Quote
solongfromthestars Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I don't think the lyrics to Kill the DJ are that bad other than the repetition and the "killing you to death" line (which I assume was intentional to reflect the confusion the song is about). The verses are decent. Quote
unextraordinarygirl Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 OMG that song is so repetitive and bad. How can anyone like it? Wait....Who's Nina? Quote
Jirachi Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I like the verses to Kill the DJ but not the chorus. One of the better trilogy songs, though this is coming from a guy who likes over half the trilogy songs decent enough 1 Quote
The Disappearing Boy Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Kill the DJ: good verses, crap chorus. 4 Quote

chrisloveslauren Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 My (possibly) unpopular opinions are: -Static Age is one of the worst songs the band has ever released. I hated the album version and despised it live. -Money Money 2020 is a better album than Stop Drop and Roll (which I love). It is the furthest the band have ever stepped out of their comfort zone and it is fabulous. -Misery is superior to all other Green Day songs. Quote

Misery is one of the best GD songs ever written but nothing is superior to JOS. Quote
unextraordinarygirl Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I love Misery. It's sounds so different but it's cool. The song I hate is 99 Revolutions. Billie said it's the best song he's ever written, I say hogwash. It's shit! 3 Quote
Spoopy Doo Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Misery is one of the best GD songs ever written but nothing is superior to JOS. I kinda prefer Homecoming tbh 1 Quote
solongfromthestars Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I know a lot of fans love Misery but I don't really like it that much. It's alright, I don't hate it, but I think it's overrated. Quote
Chin for a Day Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I love misery and the static age is absolutely underrated. It should have been released as a single. I am really not a fan of money money 2000. I can appreciate that it was outside their comfort zone but it is not my type of music 1 Quote
captain peroxide Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Misery is so good. I wish they did more story songs like that. Not that I don't like how autobiographical Billie is, but it's nice to have something different every now and then. Money Money 2020 is okay in parts, but yeah, not a huge fan of it in general. FBHT were a much better side project. 3 Quote
gnash Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 The Static Age and American Eulogy are the lyrical highlights of 21CB for me, definitely some of my favourites. I can see why the chorus and its repetition might not appeal to everyone but I think it works as a whole 2 Quote
Popular Post captain peroxide Posted May 10, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2015 American Eulogy is SO good. SO good. 9 Quote
DookieLukie Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 American Eulogy is SO good. SO good. The lyrics are a bit too over-complex for my taste. Comes off as forced. Quote
