Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

Um, I guess my unpopular opinion would be that I think Shenanigans is a really great album?
I don't know, a lot of people I met on the internet (not necessarily here, cause I haven't been here long enough to read the threads) said that it sucks and it's their worst album, but I really can't see it :ermm:

I really enjoy listening to it and I don't understand where all the hate comes from

A few pages ago or last night we discussed shenanigans love

Welcome btw.

Two unpopular opinions:

1) Warning is their most underrated album

2) I don't like their use of the word "retarded" in JoS and Dirty Rotten Bastards

Also...hello, everyone! :)

Welcome. I agree that warning is their most under rated album. It is one of my favorites. I love the folkish style of it, without losing the energy level. It also showed the trend to more political nature. I look at it as a prelude to AI.

I am not offended by the use of retarded. He is just trying to ask if he is missing something that he shouldn't. Remember the definition of retarded is,delayed. It is not being used a derogatory term

Gd biggest mistake with the trilogy is producing an album that wasn't suppose to be analysed & taken seriously - thinking that's what this generation was about - all along not realising that's exactly what this generation wants & expects gd to produce.

Their biggest mistake was making albums that were meant to seem quick and dirty but then polished them up so it sounded too clean. They were looking for a Stop Drop & Roll with clean production when they didn't realise that the dirty quicknfast production was what made that album great.

Shenanigans is a great compilation not an album

Weird that a B-sides compilation wouldn't flow that well

hmm

Oh, I know. I take this from a YouTuber I used to watch: (Review of Smashing Pumpkins' Pisces Iscariot)

B-Sides and rarities albums are like fruitcake. The Smashing Pumpkins (Green Day, in this case) took all this stuff from different places and different times and stuffed them into one album, so it's hard to talk about them as albums because there is so much different stuff on them and they don't flow that well.

yeah I know it's a B-Side (and stuff) compilation, but a lot of people refer to it as an album

I think that's kind of what's cool about Shenanigans, it's a nice varied pick n mix of different songs from different years. It's quite important for a proper album to flow well but for a b sides compilation randomness can work. They did give it a strong beginning and ending with the excellent Suffocate, Desensitized and You Lied to start and the laid back On The Wagon and punchy new song Ha Ha You're Dead to finish though, they must have put some thought into the order.

What are the B-sides to American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, actually?

I hope there aren't any b-sides on the trilogy, cause it feels like the put every song they had on these records ;D

American Idiot: Shoplifter, Too Much Too Soon, Favorite Son, Governator

21st CB: Lights Out, Hearts Collide, Like A Rolling Stone, Another State Of Mind, A Quick One While He's Away, That's All Right

Think that's all of them. Only kind of b side to the trilogy is the State Of Shock demo on Demolicious.

The three covers weren't b-sides, they were bonus tracks on iTunes.

You're welcome, lots of great songs for you still to enjoy then!

Oh ok, well they're extra songs that went with the album or whatever.

Although the closest thing to a Trilogy b-side we've heard (as a studio recording, anyway) is State of Shock, there were dozens of other songs that didn't make the trilogy.

The only other two (that I can think of) that have recordings are Oh Girl and Dream Catcher:

I'm not sure about Oh Girl, but Dream Catcher can be seen in Cuatro:
