Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

Lyrics are a bit up and down.

Yeah. There are some good one-liners in there, my favorite being "I chopped me a line of my best friends ashes."

Never cared much for the BIAB CD, I'm not a big fan of listening to live versions in general to be fair (although I love watching them) but I find the Awesome As Fuck CD much better. I like the variety of the songs being from different shows, and it just captures the feeling of a Green Day show better than any other live audio I've heard somehow.

idk if we've moved on to another opinion yet, but Welcome to Paradise has been played so much its my least favorite on Dookie.

It's my least favourite on Dookie because I know there's a better and more interesting version on Kerplunk so there's no need for it.

I like the harmonies in Pulling Teeth a lot

They're dreamy :D

Since we're on the topic of Dookie, I think Having a Blast is an incredibly written song. I never realized what it was about but now that I do the lyrics really are powerful.

I do wonder if the song was at all controversial upon release

Agreed! I don't think so though, people weren't as silly about things like that in those days.

See You Tonight > Brutal Love

-awaits the criticism-

Nooo because Brutal Love is the greatest thing ever. But I do really like See You Tonight, sweet folksy song. I like it even more for it's use as an intro to Fuck Time though, surprising and amusing way to start the album going from maybe I'll see you tonight  to oh baby baby it's fuck time

Having A Blast is still one of my favorite GD songs

I only like Having A Blast when I'm playing it on GD Rockband.

Many songs you see on Dookie, you think "Those suck." But, after all, you realize why Dookie has become breakthrough album. Because those don't suck. :D

The only difference I hear is the quality.

The choruses are a bit different. The part "some call it nice".

Well, there's that too.

If you take the singles out and maybe one or two songs Dookie sucks so much. Insomniac and Kerplunk are so much better. So is American Idiot and maybe even the Foxboro album.

If you think the trilogy is a good effort then you have really low standards for green day's music. And that's not an opinion its a fact.

Billie's songwriting was terrible in trilogy and in 21stCB he had some really good lines but on most songs it didn't made any sense.

I cant even begin to tell you how much I agree with this. I think Brutal Love is the best in the Trilogy, it's not even wOrth debating but See You Tonight is a perfect introduction to Fuck Time. My second favorite Trilogy song. It's fun, it's true. Anyone with kids will know that your washing machine is a perpetual motion machine. As soon as I heard put your laundry basket down I was hooked. Love that song

 not really. I understand that some people may enjoy listening to trilogy because it's just the typical green day sound but i can't understand how it can be considered a good effort since it's really not and it's obvious to me.

That's the best and the most accurate think about the trilogy i have ever heard!

It's part of my unpopular opinion that what I said is a fact and not an opinion. ;)

I will agree with you that Kerplunk and Insomniac are better than Dookie, but it definitely does not suck!

Same here! One of the best tracks on Dookie.

Billie doing vocals and harmonies really pisses me off. I hate it. Even on No One Knows at the end where Billie sings both parts it kinda ruins the song for me. Outside of the studio you can't sing two parts at once.

I guess i'm in the minority when I say that the end of No One Knows with Billie overlapping vocals is probably my favorite part of the track! I just think it sounds really beautiful.

Does anybody else wish "Coming Clean" was longer?

I think that most people agree that the Trilogy is not the greatest work the band ever put out. However, almost everyone talks about how much they love certain songs, and how one song is a great lead in for another or how some songs are just plain fun. My opinion is that most people like the Trilogy more than they will admit. Since its my opinion, I guess it must be fact. Therefore, I conclude that you are a closet Trilogy lover.

Absolutely not in the minority. I think it sounds just absolutely gorgeous. I will agree that he can't sing both parts in concert, but who wants to hear a song exactly the way it is on the album? I personally like to hear them mix things up.
