Does anyone have any advice I wasnt sure where to post this but here seemed like the best place.

I really would love to be in a band but the two people I want to be in with me arent readly avaliable to practice whenever I want to if that makes sense... Like my best friends dont live in the same state as me so it's really hard and one of them only comes down every few months cause she lives around 5 hours away.. Im thinking im definetly going to go to University and study maybe two different music related subjects and possibly pharmecutical enginerring or something along the lines of that. The problem is when I get old enough to fly myself (probably 20) I'm going to go to the next state or something like that. But heres the like big question one of them dosent play an instrument she's supposed to be the drummer because I play guitar and my other friend plays bass and by the time we all graduate and shiz hopefully she's gonna be old enough for her parents to let her get a drum kit.. I dont know if I should just focus on my own guitar practice/skills etc and join someone else who's looking for band members or wait until i can get my shit together and orginized..

I know im thinking like 6 years into the future but I have a pretty good idea of how my life is looking out I also want to move out of this shithole called Australia but not sure if the UK or US would be better.

I ordered my multitrack recorder today. Shipping was free too!

I love it when I record a song and everything just falls into place so well that it basically mixes itself.

A new song?

Also, your member title is splendid.

It's a cover of Mr Brightside for Amanda's talent contest.

Thank you :D

Many other people here play brass instruments? Everyone seems to be basically just guitar :P
I played trumpet all the way through primary and high school but hadn't played it in like 5 years, but I decided this year to start trying to play it again a bit more, plus I have a friend who is lending me her saxophone, so I'm learning to play that. It is pretty fun :P

KEYBOARDS SUCK WITHOUT A SUSTAINING PEDAL

Do I want to spend the $30 and be able to practice anywhere or do I want to be cheap and just play the piano when no one's home?

I'd like to record some drums today, but all I have is a dynamic microphone with a boom stand and the condenser microphones built into my recorder. I know it won't sound great no matter how I do it, but can someone recommend me a setup? The room is our two-car garage and the drum set is close to a wall.

Also, here's the drum set if you need/want to see it. (The garage has been since tidied up.)

Set the dynamic mic up a couple of feet in front of the kit and roughly in line with the top of the kick drum. Put the condensers behind the kit and around three feet above it, if possible.

Thank you so much! Should the dynamic be angled down toward the set, or what?

Since the setup is so minimal keep it straight so you get a balance between the kick, snare and toms.

What about the hi-hat? It's a big part of the track.

The condensers should pick it up just fine. You don't want to put too much focus on the cymbals with a two mic setup because they could drown out the drums. I mean the main thing is to start with what I said and experiment with positions to see what works best for you.

I'm going to try it out now. Thanks again!

I'm kind of freaking out right now (in a good way). My friend (an awesome singer/songwriter) might be doing vocals on that track I've been bugging you guys with! :runaround:

Looking forward to hearing it if it goes ahead!

I hope he does it, but he has quite a bit on his plate right now, so he might not. He also said that the style is way out of his comfort zone.

If he's not willing to try to go out of his comfort zone he's not an awesome artist then

He never said he wasn't willing to do it. He just meant that it will take him longer since he isn't used to the style.

It was a separate statement, which is why I used the word "also."

The last time I played in a band was 18 months ago and it's killing me.

I've never played in a band. :(

It's a lot less painful if you never do it than if you get into doing it regularly and then have to stop :(
