rootbeersoup Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I wish that I could sing so that I could do open mics. I will sing and play guitar and also rap - RBS
Spike Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Anyone want to start a group PM for sharing lyrics and getting advice? I'm working on loads of little verses and stuff so they're not substantial enough to post in a thread, but it'd be cool to be able to post them somewhere and get a bit of feedback. Just an idea. I'd definitely be interested!
Spike Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Awesome! Oway people, it'd be great to have a place to get a few opinions on things as you're writing. Has anyone else expressed an interest yet?! I'll send you some stuff tomorrow, I've got what I think is a decent lyric but I'm struggling with the odd line.
Penguin Puffball Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 So yesterday I bought a clarinet at the flea market for $20. Turns out the clarinet's worth $1,000

Certified Nimrod Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Get it on eBay and buy a cheaper one with the profit ...or keep the expensive one.
Penguin Puffball Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 ...or keep the expensive one. I'm keeping it for now and I'm going to learn to play it. Maybe if we keep it in really good condition and the value goes up after a while I'll think of selling it later.
Certified Nimrod Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Does anyone have any tips for singing and playing guitar at the same time? I'm pretty sure I'm going to be doing it in class (for a ton of extra credit) on Wednesday.
Purple Haze Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Does anyone have any tips for singing and playing guitar at the same time? I'm pretty sure I'm going to be doing it in class (for a ton of extra credit) on Wednesday. Practice trying to sing and play along with the song a shit tonne. Eventually you'll develop the muscle memory to do so without really thinking about it.
mulder Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I wish I owned a French Horn. I really wanna play again (I haven't played in months), but holy crap instruments are expensive. Even ones at like pawn shops usually run for more money than I would like to spend (plus they're usually really old and in need of so many repairs).

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be doing it in class (for a ton of extra credit) on Wednesday. I usually try to practice playing it without looking, then I try it with singing until I finally get it

Practice playing to the point where you can have a conversation as you do so, without having to think about what you're doing. Once you can do that, singing over your playing should be a doddle. It's all about muscle memory.
green day is Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 It's all about muscle memory. Maybe that's how some people do it. I can sing over a song the first time playing it if I want, it's more about voice independence the same way you practice hand independence with piano. I just kept trying at it til it clicked in my brain and started happening effortlessly. It's like moving your foot in a clockwise circle and drawing a six with your hand or rubbing your stomach and patting your head.

I've actually decided not to do the project because I don't have the time or ambition to write the song.
Sauli Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I wish I had a bass and some good recorder, maybe 4 tracks or so so i could arrange my songs for a band. Do not tell me to look for other people I could play with because a) nobody seems to like good music AND play an instrument and b) social anxiety makes it hard to even say hello to strangers so I could never have any courage to ask anyone. That said, as I enter high school next autumn, maybe then my anxiety will get better and maybe then i will finally get some mood stabilizers and maybe if i should really show my songs to someone maybe then I would have more motivation and Id even finish some of them.
Certified Nimrod Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 It just dawned on me that I probably have enough money to buy a ukulele now. Could anyone suggest what kind to get?
green day is Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 It just dawned on me that I probably have enough money to buy a ukulele now. Could anyone suggest what kind to get? Go to a music store and try some! That's the only answer I'll give for any instrument.
Certified Nimrod Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Go to a music store and try some! That's the only answer I'll give for any instrument. I was planning on doing that, but is there a certain company that I should look out for?
Spike Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 I was planning on doing that, but is there a certain company that I should look out for? Lanikai and Kulu are both meant to be very good for beginners. Just don't get a Mahalo.
Spike Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 Why not? I had one myself and it was pretty crap. There was no hope of keeping it in tune because the tuning pegs wouldn't stay put when I tightened the strings. It's apparently very common.

green day is Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Just found the chords for the intro to You Can't Fool Me, each played twice it goes E D# C# B C# B A B E, they're probably just octaves as opposed to full power chords, though. I'm pretty sure the verse is E B and the chorus is E A B.
bollard_11 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Guitar I've been looking for ages, found it for half price. So tempted but it would be really irresponsible of me. But my birthday is this month.....
