Met up with the guy, showed him a few riffs and he asked me to write something on the spot. Came up with some of the best riffs I have written, they were all too "hard rock" for him if I touched an E or an F chord. I don't know if I can deal with limitations like that. Didn't help that he seems to think a pop punk band can actually make it big if they follow a formula.... It's just far too delusional for me I think. Kinda desperate to get gigging but I kinda feel I would be severly lowering myself artistically. I am not the best guitarist but this just. I want to be with musicians that push me to better. Not make me regress How are E and F too "hard rock"??? Ever Fallen In Love by Buzzcocks is about 50% E chords, and if that's not pop punk I don't know what is.

bollard_11 Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 First gig in 4 years last night. Was an absolute disaster. Now to crawl back into my shell ha

I wouldn't let it get to you though! If you haven't done it in four years, it's 100% okay for it to be a little shaky! You just gotta get back out there and get used to gigging again, you know?

A girl asked me to learn 9 songs for a gig, never heard any of the songs before, threw all my spare time that week into getting them right. 4 songs in, her mate comes up takes the guitar off me and says she is playing the rest. Wasn't playing bad, couple of flubbed notes here and there. But the other one could not play guitar at all. just felt belittled and insulted. Confidence is shot since.

Don't be upset about this, the girl was just grand standing. She is the one that made a fool out of herself, not out of you. She was a total pompous ass and then got up there and played like shit. She looked like an ass because of what she did to you and then she couldn't back it up. Do not let some arrogant bitch ruin your confidence.

It is tricky to pick up, but once it clicks it is easy. You will get it. I usually find that he has to say things 20 times and then I have an "aha" moment and get it.

Joe. Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 The drums are tempting me to stray from the guitar. Been listening to a tonne of Zeppelin and Crooked Vultures lately and the drums are starting to get to me, I need to be able to play those beats!! My resolve is going to be tested in a few days when I go guitar amplifier shopping, I want and need a new one, but I have money for an Alesis electric kit D: Ill definitely get a kit when I get a job though, I need to at least try to be Dave Grohl haha
Penguin Puffball Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I want to buy a drumset, but Shawn told me, and I quote "Hell no". So I guess I can't expand my drum skills, even though I love the drums. Whatever, I guess.

Women will do what they want regardless of what anybody says That's how I got my lime green guitar. I was getting Shawn his anniversary present last year, which was a guitar that he played once, and now it just basically collects dust. While I was at the music store, I saw this bright-ass lime green guitar. Anybody who knows me knows I love bright, colourful things, and that I especially love the colour green, so this was like heaven for me. I told Shawn about it while I was there, and he was like "Do not get the extra guitar!" I got the extra guitar. Spent my entire paycheck on instruments in that one day. I regret nothing.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I don't know if it's just me being butthurt about nothing or if it belongs here. The flutist messages me several times a day about planning a next rehearsal even though I told her I'm sick and won't come. She gets pretty annoying but at the same time I missed 4 rehs. She got to play with somebody else, though. What I mean is that we spend a bit too much time together and I actually enjoy the break. And as I type this my teacher messaged me and he clearly expects my playing will be shitty because I missed so much practice...there's more to it on a more personal level. I still absolutely love playing music and I'd hate if this fell apart because of us not getting along.
Michael Highway Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 My range of influences for lyric writing have come from Green Day, Guns n' Roses, Sex Pistols, I think The Beatles at one point, surprisingly not The Ramones, though I love their music. But instrumentally, influences come from mostly Green Day, some Guns n' Roses (I mean the first G n' R btw), I think there were one or two that came from The Beatles too and a couple of my latest seem to be influenced by Sex Pistols, but mixed with GD. I have rough demos on soundcloud, if anyone is interested, I have links on my profile on here. Still looking for a drummer though. The last two times we tried out a drummer, they never even bothered turning up, and that was after it was all arranged too. And me and my friend who's playing bass put a lot of preparation and rehearsal into meeting the new drummers, and they just never turned up, we even still had to pay studio time, so they wasted our time and money too. But I've been meaning to find someone lately but haven't really had the time, but I'm hoping soon so we can get out there. Dying to do some gigs, lol
Penguin Puffball Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 So, my dad has 3 drum sets, and my stepmom said that maybe he would be okay with giving me one! Holy shit this is exciting. Now I just either have to get Shawn's car out of the garage, or the boxes out of the basement.

My son is trying to teach me "Basket Case" on his electric....scary.

I can't play piano, Thing 1 and Thing 2 have tried, but it just doesn't work for me. Basket Case is pretty easy, but if you want to learn Brain Stew is better to start, it is their easiest song. Most people say that GD songs are really easy to play, and they are, their is nothing technically difficult to play. But, Billie usually throws some different stuff in that make some of the songs tricky. It's not that they are hard, but it takes awhile to get it. Once you get it, it is fine. I find Minority to be one of their trickier songs. If you want to learn something that is moronically easy, try either The Ramones or Radiohead. Their songs are just super easy to play.

Thank you for the ideas. I just might keep trying, you are inspiring me. I think my problem is I'm left handed, but when I was a kid I tried some lessons for a while, and I first learned to play it right handed, because no one thought to check if I should flip it over! So my left hand is really good (notes and chords) but my strumming and picking is for shit, lol. Maybe I'll look up some Radiohead, that's a good idea.
