Penguin Puffball Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I hate using picks on bass guitar strings cuz the strings just eat the pick and then I have a huge freaking dent in the pick. Not into that. My pointer fingernail on my right hand is almost nonexistent now though.

Using my fingers has always been "I would, if I could, but I suck at it". I have used a pick since day one, and it achieves the sound that I have come to prefer.

Just from strumming in the conventional way. I have pretty long nails, so it's hard to strum with my fingers without my nail getting in the way
Milan. Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Its been so long since I have turned on any amp and played guitar or bass.... I may have to do that soon
Spike Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 I play with fingers and a pick in equal measure. It depends on the song and the tone I want, really. It's good to know as many techniques as possible. I'm currently working on Geddy Lee flamenco picking which is damn difficult.
Certified Nimrod Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Thoughts on this bass? It got good reviews on Amazon and it sounded good on a YouTube video. It has a tapered neck (which I pretty much need) and the finish is cool.

They're good for the money.

Spike Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 I got offered £40 for my Mike Dirnt Precision yesterday.
Eva Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Oh my God you guys, so in our percussion ensemble at school (what the percussion kids do competitively after marching season), we're playing a piece called The Planets and there's a really cool bass part. Brandon was originally given the part but our director thought he couldn't play fast enough, so he asked me to look at it. I practiced two hours everyday this week (which has really fucked up my hands because I don't get a lot of time to play bass anymore) but on Thursday I went in and showed them what I had managed to learn and I got the part!!!! And our percussion director said he was really, really impressed and that I was going to be great at it! So I am now playing like, professional-type, ensemble bass music instead of pop-punk in my bedroom. This is so fucking cool
bagelfeet Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Really cool video! https disappointed because no Longview
Spike Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 There's a bass made out of a toilet seat and nothing matters anymore.
Certified Nimrod Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 My jazz bass came in January, but I never posted a picture here. Oops. Here she is (spoilered because huge): She is much easier to play than a precision bass, as I had hoped! I'll upload a recording when my bass amp comes eventually.
Second favourite son Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Looking for some advice on boiling bass strings; does it work? How long should I boil them for? Anything in particular to watch out for? How long does any change last? In the past I've always just bought new strings when I need them, but my E string is totally fucking dead and I don't get paid til the end of the month so I need something to tide me over til then. Any non-boiling advice on string rejuvenation is also appreciated, at the moment all I've done is loosen and twang it

It never really seemed worth it to me but if your string is fucked then I guess you've got to

It takes flipping ages, there's a 100% chance you'll burn yourself, and when you take the strings out of the pot you have to pull them through the layer or scum that's formed on the surface anyway. It does make them sound better, almost like new even, but for maybe 15 minutes of actual playing. Soak them in white spirit for 24 hours instead. Better results, less dangerous, and better for the strings because you're not weakening the metal with water.
End Of The World Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Hi everyone, I can play the bass (learning). I think it's the best instrument in the world because you FEEL music inside of your body. I play with fingers more than with pick: I like the full sound of the string. I use it mainly for Ramones and fast GD songs. My favorite bass lines are from Chris Wostenholme (Muse) and Mike.
bass boy Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Forgot about this thread. Been playing bass for around 10 years now, and if you couldnt tell by my username i play bass A LOT lmao. Got 3 guitars right now, Squire P Bass, BC Rich Warlock and this Epiphone Firebird. Recently bought it, and its the first bass i actually went out and bought (the others were gifts) Easily my favorite, its got a really nice hardwood body and neck. The sustain is unreal and the dual pickups are awesome for using different tones and such. Id recommend this bass to any of my fellow bassists, beginner or not, ive had a blast messing around with this.
