Spike Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Is it worth the difference in price to drive an hour away (each way) to pick it up? How much would that cost?
Certified Nimrod Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 How much would that cost? idk dude I wouldn't be the one driving. I meant more along the lines of it being worth 2+ hours of my time or not.
Spike Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 idk dude I wouldn't be the one driving. I meant more along the lines of it being worth 2+ hours of my time or not. Well in that case definitely yes. The price is insane and those basses are fantastic.
Certified Nimrod Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Well in that case definitely yes. The price is insane and those basses are fantastic. Alright, thanks man! I'll talk to my parents about driving there.
Certified Nimrod Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 That dude never emailed me back about the Jaguar bass, but DUDE. This is an amp and a bass AND it's closer! This kind of bass is actually my favorite that I've played, too.
Penguin Puffball Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I need to learn Shiny Happy People on bass. I will not rest until this is a thing.
Backyard Skulls Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I need to get my bass back gave it to my friends brother but he's forgotten about it lol. It'll probably need new strings though, I've not changed them since I gave it to him. Might try and learn some Rush songs or something challenging
Penguin Puffball Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Oop. There we go. Took 20 minutes but I think I'm solid now.
Certified Nimrod Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Oop. There we go. Took 20 minutes but I think I'm solid now. Prove it.
Penguin Puffball Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Prove it. Tom and I will have a video up eventually
bollard_11 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Last couple of months I have been thinking of picking up a cheap bass. I have a drumkit in my shed I never use. Was thinking of setting up a little home studio as I soundproofed the room years ago when I got my drums. So if I go ahead with that plan, I'll need a bass and an amp. Thinking of picking up one of those squire starter packs. Anyone got any opinions on these bass's and the accompanying amp?

I am far from an experienced bassist, but I would recommend it. I play a Squier bass every week at lessons. It's the best feeling one in the store, to me.

The Squier Affinity basses that come with those packs are decent for beginners, yeah. And the amp is decent for home use. That said, if you're going to get seriously into it and join a band or do some serious recording you can expect to need an upgrade relatively quickly. Around the same price is the Aria STB Precision. Lil gave me hers the other month and it's quite simply the best bass I've ever played.

It would be more for myself to lay down bass tracks should I decide to record, or just to have for a jam session. My main instrument will always be guitar so a basic bass would be all i'd need.

bollard_11 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Heathen Come to the dark side, we have cookies (and cooler force powers)
Spike Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Come to the dark side, we have cookies (and cooler force powers) I came from the dark side to be fair. Cookies are tempting though. Give me all the cookies and maybe I'll reconsider.* *I won't reconsider
songsforthedeaf Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Saw this thread and figured I should introduce my bass stuff: I use a red Ibanez GSR200 (I would've preferred a black one, but it's still lovely) through an Ampeg BA-108 and Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi Effects Pedal. My favorite bands to play along to are Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Arctic Monkeys, Nirvana, Rise Against, and of course, Green Day. I received my bass and amp as gifts last year for Christmas, and have taught myself how to play (my prior knowledge from playing upright bass for four years so far has helped, though). Oh, and I primarily use picks.

Oh, and I primarily use picks. Welcome to the club! I have a friend who has a red GSR200, I've played it a few times and it was damn nice. Jealous of the Big Muff Pi, I've been meaning to get one for ages but haven't been able to afford it. I use a Double Muff though and that's nice and versatile.
Certified Nimrod Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Oh, and I primarily use picks. I'm a total n00b, but I can't picture myself using my fingers. It's painful.
Eva Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I typically only use picks if the music is fast pop punk or punk. Other than that, fingers are the way to go.
