I read the news on Christmas day, I had gotten Sims 2 (Maybe Sim 3) and was about to install it onto the family computer in the office, and popped on GDC just to see who was about and saw news about it. I instantly started hysterically crying and that Christmas day was fucking ruined for me. I was morbidly depressed for like 3 days until I found out it was a hoax. I cried through Christmas dinner I am sorry, that's a really horrible way to spend Christmas I know I would be no different haha. Also I must been searching in a wrong month Quote
Shtrudel Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 I've been listening to Green Day since I was 10 or 11 and owned Dookie since I was 13, and I used to listen to it alot. But it wasn't until Rock Band when I heard for the first time on Burnout the "DEEEEEEAAAAAAAD" before the drum solo. I was very shocked to hear that but suddenly I could also notice that on the CD itself. I don't really like it and wish I would be able not to hear it again. I suspect this is one of those sounds kids can't hear. I know there are sounds only kids can hear, but now I believe there are also sounds only adults can hear. Quote

I also only heard that because of Rock Band . But I was already an adult all the times I listened to the song and didn't hear it so I'm not sure the kids not hearing it theory is correct, I think it's just difficult to hear. Did anyone actually hear it before Rock Band? Obviously everyone knows it goes "...walk amongst the dead, de-e-ead..." but are most people aware of the long "deeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaad" in the background afterwards right before the drum solo? I can still hardly hear it even though I know it's there now. 1 Quote
herewegoagain Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 I've always heard it (first time at ~20 though I'm not sure that's the thing either) but more just a general backing vocal/eeeey noise. Not sure if I can actually single out the Ds at each end 1 Quote
unextraordinarygirl Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 What's the big deal? He's saying 'walk amongst the dead' meaning he's living in the everyday ordinary world. It's a metaphore for 9-5 everyday life. But I guess kids wouldn't umderstand that yet. The song after Burnout, 'Having A Blast" talks about a guy with explosives duct-taped to his spine and noone getting out alive. That is a lot more violent and shocking. That would be a bad one to play nowadays with all the terrorism and violence. 1 Quote

St. Jonny Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Sorry, referring to earlier with the dead thing, I always heard it from when I was 6 and first heard it and it always made me feel they were much more grim in real life than they actually are of course. That is my favorite part of the song. Actually every second of the song is amazing. 1 Quote
Jesus of Seneca Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 so, proud to say that as part of the senior prank in my high school tonight - during which a ton of shit happened, including a minor flood - that I did a little Billie Joe tribute and took every phone in the school off the hook 2 Quote

We don't have a problem with the line, it's just that after he sings "walk amongst the dead, de-a-ad" he goes "deeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaad" in the background quietly and it's hard to hear . And if you were used to listening to the song without hearing that part it's kind of annoying to notice it now. Do you hear the long dead? Quote
MillenniumFan Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I'm almost certain this has been discussed in another thread, but I couldn't find it, so I've decided to post it here. Have you guys seen videos of this guy from Peru on some talent show imitating Billie Joe Armstrong, haha: 3 Quote
pouty bitch Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 ^ This is hilarious. And actually pretty accurate. Quote
Hermione Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I'd heard of that but didn't realise there were so many different performances. An extremely good impersonation and I like how he got all the different looks down Quote
MillenniumFan Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Yeah, not just hair colour, but guitars, guitar straps and even outfits. The one from the first video is one of the newer RevRad tour era outfits and then of course there's the red tie... Quote
pouty bitch Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I like the Jaded in Chicago one the best. It's really similar to the actual show. Quote
Caroline Truong Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 NOOOOOOO!! too many of fake-Billie I'm wondering what Real Billie feel about this?.. Quote

I've always heard the 'Dead' and like it, I think it adds to the song and I wouldn't want to hear it without the backing. I'm not aware of a physiological reason why certain sounds could only be heard by adults - very high frequencies can only be heard by children because we lose high frequency hearing as we age, but I'm not aware of any improvement in hearing other frequencies as we age. It is possible, though, that adults may notice the sound more even if they were previously able to hear it. I'd be inclined to say it's more that attention and awareness of the sound change, rather than the actual ability to hear it. 1 Quote
KGLWW Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I didn't notice the extra dead lyric until I heard one of the dookie demos in which it was much louder. So, I listened more closely on the actual album once I knew they had done it that way before Quote
MillenniumFan Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Can someone tell me what the hell is going on with Green Day's YouTube channel? I just recently reported that the channel passed 1.25 Billion views. However, now it's at 970'000 views. Apparently, someone is going around taking down the videos of which there were two versions (such as Basket Case). But why the hell are they taking down the version with the most views? That doesn't make any sense... Quote

YouTube are always assholes though, taking down videos and shit. Do you know how many views that Basket Case video had? Cause I assume it was a huge amount. The other version only has 5.7m views so that's fucked up. 1 Quote
MillenniumFan Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Yes, I meant 1.25 Billion and that's exactly my point. One video had I think 100 Million + views, the other as you say only 5.7 Million. So, it would make sense to take down the video with the least views, right? At least, that's what I would do... Quote
