That doesn't mean the entire song is my favorite, either. It's just... so fucking epic when that song builds to the bridge and final chorus and I will never stop loving it. I'd kill to see that live someday. they fucking killed it on nimrod, sooooo much better than the version they demoed for dookie Quote

Shtrudel Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 I hate it when Billie sings without the guitar. Not because I want him on the guitar so bad or something, it's because he cups the microphone like an idiot. Ever since I watched this video, I started noticing whether people have proper mic techniqe, and Billie ain't got one. Quote

From all the pics I've seen Billie's mic technique looks fine though. It's certainly nowhere near as bad as this: Quote

It's a small club, the equipment is cheaper and the fact that he cups the mic and tosses it everywhere whenever he doesn't sing doesn't help either. I was only listening to this when the video was played, picking on it every now and then. There was a moment when he left the mic at the mic stand and suddenly, no feedback! As for why there's no feedback at the St. Jimmy performance? I don't know, I'm not expert. Maybe because it's a bigger room and they've got better equipment. You can still hear the sound is messed up whenever he's holding the mic like that (which is not ALL the time, but most of it). 1 Quote

BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Last night I heard Bang Bang on the radio for the first time. Someone called in and asked for it. No need to say it was a good opportunity to turn the volume to maximum. Now I'm sure I love that song. 2 Quote
Maid Meringue Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I want to hate Bang Bang so much because the lyrics aren't clicking for me, but it's such a damn good song I find myself singing it all the time Speaking of lyrics clicking, it took me 11 years to realize that "welcome to a new kind of tension, all across the alien nation" is actually "alienation" which means that, at least to me, the line has two different meanings. An "alien nation" is a blanket term for any foreign country, but to "alienate as a nation" is to fear-monger by tightening borders and becoming increasingly xenophobic. Sound familiar? 3 Quote
The Beatles Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 just read this online, pretty weird: more time has passed between Revolution Radio and American Idiot than between American Idiot and Dookie 2 Quote

I always thought it was alien nation too. Which is weird and doesn't make much sense but that's how I hear it/sing it. Quote
stories and songs Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 American Idiot turns 12 today. I'm feeling a bit nostalgic—that album opened up an entirely new universe for me. Had this album not come into my life, I very literally would not be who I am. Happy Birthday, AI! 1 Quote
