localinsomniac Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Does anyone else think Walking Contradiction is too lighthearted for Insomniac What do you find to be lighthearted about it? 1 Quote
JOE THE X-KID Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 What do you find to be lighthearted about it? well not lighthearted, but just more humorous Than the darker tone of the rest the album. Quote
DookieLukie Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 well not lighthearted, but just more humorous Than the darker tone of the rest the album. Green Day has a way of slipping humor into dark things. 1 Quote
localinsomniac Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 well not lighthearted, but just more humorous Than the darker tone of the rest the album. Definitely with the video (my favorite of theirs), but I think the lyrics are meant to be more sarcastic than humorous. 2 Quote
Spike Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Does anyone else think Walking Contradiction is too lighthearted for Insomniac They took the classic Springsteen-esque thing of putting serious lyrics to a jolly sounding melody and making it seem light hearted. It arguably makes it seem darker, in my opinion. 2 Quote
Hermione Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Does anyone else think Walking Contradiction is too lighthearted for Insomniac I think the more lighthearted sounding music, less angry/fast delivery of the singing and large amounts of on the silly side humour in the lyrics makes it sound different to the rest of the album (even if the contrast of those things with the actual meaning of the lyrics means it does fit very well meaning-wise). I think it works being the last song, a final bit of full on sarcasm along with a catchy melody to sign off after the more intense anger and darkness of much of the rest of the album, but if it was in the middle it'd stick out. 1 Quote
beejeezee Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 well not lighthearted, but just more humorous Than the darker tone of the rest the album. Not really, it's still a pretty dark song. Enough to be on Insomniac at the least. Quote
HolyHandGrenade Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Just put my 2118 song iPod on shuffle and got this: Good Riddance (Nimrod) Good Riddance (BIAB) Good Riddance (AAF) all in a row. What are the odds? 2 Quote

Pretty high. iPods have this glitch where they group songs with the same name together when shuffling. Quote

Oxymore Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 A strong shot of Insomniac should do it. And maybe a head enema. You're harsh. It's not the worst Green Day song, far from it ! 2 Quote

Anaïs. Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I've always been impressed by how Billie doesn't miss a beat playing when that mudball directly impacts his guitar at Woodstock. Granted, he was probably too high at the time to even realize it had happened. 3 Quote
