Steven Seagull Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I bring Green Day members to talk with you about the trilogy. They ask you what do you think about the trilogy and you go with "Guitar tone, vocal filters, recycled melodies and shoddy lyrics" ? Yup that conversation would end in 10 seconds. Just cause it's not popular doesn't make it underground lmao I never said it was lmao

I'm genuinely trying and failing to understand what you're saying here? Are you saying that my explanation for disliking the Trilogy is only those nine words? Because you know for a fact I've gone into *why* those are reasons at considerable length in the past. And really, again, who are you to criticize brief arguments when *your* reasoning for hating AI, when you bother to give a reason, usually amounts to "This song sucks, this song's too long, they sold out, mainstream, lololol"?

I never said it was lmao Then what is the trilogy? If you say it's not mainstream then what is it? And as for your first part Billie is into production so he'd have a discussion about it For those who are into production like me the production of the trilogy isn't that good the guitar tones didn't fit all the songs now for those who aren't into production and all of that and doesn't mind that great that's good

I'm not a professional producer by any means, I've only put together lo-fi recordings by local bands, but yes the guitar tones just are too weak. I think my problem with it is that its sound just lacks a punch, ya know. If I was producing it, I'd at least give it similar production to like American Idiot. I'd prefer something like Insomniac but I don't think that style would really fit trilogy songs.

Then Billie would get drunk and smash his guitar on the stage again.
Anaïs. Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Then Billie would get drunk and smash his guitar on the stage again. Or yell at you for devolving into non sequiturs instead of delivering actual responses.
Libertine Angel Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Then Billie would get drunk and smash his guitar on the stage again. The iHeart incident happened just before the Trilogy tour, so I fail to see how that's relevant.

If I would only want to hear guitars with drum bashing in the background I would listen to SOSH. Or yell at you for devolving into non sequiturs instead of delivering actual responses. That would actually be the most honest response anyone ever gave him.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I actually like to hear other instruments and vocals as well. If I would only want to hear guitars with drum bashing in the background I would listen to SOSH. You can hear vocals and bass on SOSH!
Anaïs. Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 That would actually be the most honest response anyone ever gave him. So we're lying when we tell him how much we love the album then. Yep, you got us. That's the dread secret.

Hermione Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Can't we all just like or dislike albums and say why without insulting those with a different opinion or getting our knickers in a twist? It's only opinions on music so take a chill pill and don't take it personally or get angry....a simple mantra to live by when visiting Green Day Chat!

Is there really no safe place where we could discuss our love for the trilogy without idiots invading the thread?
Fuzz Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I seriously don't understand why people are legitimately arguing about this. Tastes are subjective. There are people out there who prefer Michael Jackson to Green Day, I don't need to go preaching to them why they shouldn't like something I don't like. All of Green Day's albums sound different enough to serious fans that it's easy to understand why people are more attracted to one thing or another. Dookie fans don't have to like American Idiot, Warning fans don't have to like 21st Century Breakdown. Music will always be subjective. Always. It doesn't matter what logic you apply to it. The trilogy is not a bad group of albums, and I don't think it's their worse collection of songs. That honor goes to 1039/SOSH for me. I'd pick Dos over that any day of the week. I don't understand why people feel the need to go back and forth with each other over the idea that someone likes something you don't.
Hermione Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I thought this thread was meant to discuss why the trilogy is underrated, not to post unpopular opinions about it. It's to discuss the idea that it's underrated - that can be agreeing or disagreeing (politely in both cases, preferably )

Is there really no safe place where we could discuss our love for the trilogy without idiots invading the thread? I agree. I don't feel safe here anymore. This used to be a place where I could feel safe, and I no longer do. If an anonymous internet forum can't stay safe, who will I ever confide in? Where can I go for support if this anonymous forum isn't safe?

Anaïs. Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 ^Knock it off, guys. (Not you, Ryan.) My opinion about the Trilogy these days? I still hate it, but it's no longer a fiery hatred--it's a weary one. I have to say, this thread has exhausted me. I just don't have the energy to despise that I once used to. I'll listen to a few songs from it every now and then, but it may as well not exist to me otherwise.

There'd be no problem if nobody insulted anyone. Plus it was you who brought AI into it, but tangentially related.
Undómiel Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Why would he be trolling? The problem with this forum is that people get lots of hate for stating different opinions. But when someone makes fun out of the trilogy it's ok? Why not? Nought like dredging up the past is there? But also because AI is just better. I'm no music critic but to me it's got more scope, the album flows better, there's better musicality, more experimentation, more lyrical meaning, more passion... I could go on.
