DookieLukie Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 1. And you know my level of success in the real world...how? 2. The one where you asserted that all we Trilogy haters do it for attention. You've forfeited it by resorting to personal attacks and abandoning any sort of reasoned argument for your original position. I never said you do it for attention. Said you do it to feel holier than thou.
DookieLukie Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I think that's enough. DookieLukie, you're being an asshole. Now go back to your real world if you're as above arguing over pointless shit on the internet as you claim to be. Ok. This will be the last time you'll be seeing this sig.
Spike Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Ok. This will be the last time you'll be seeing this sig. I'm deeply hurt.
DookieLukie Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I'm deeply hurt. When your life is GDC, I understand why people like me urk you. Enjoy.

Hermione Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Ugh. Take the petty personal squabbles to PM or just drop them please. If you want to post in this thread post on the subject of the Trilogy allegedly being massively underrated, without any added personal comments.
The Disappearing Boy Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 That was possibly the best argument ever on GDC! Thanks to DookieLukie for his questionable arguing skills, and to Graham, Zack and Tim for fighting the good fight. Bless you all
Fuzz Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 But Dos is their worst ever. Aww. I was just starting to like you too.
IrelandCalling Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 That was viciously entertaining; I visited this thread and saw 3 or 4 pages more than yesterday, filled with arguing and backbiting. It's not unique, most every forum has this, and especially in relation to those albums that really split the fanbase. Love of a band in particular makes people do crazy things and utter crazy statements; from almost vehemently needing to prove WHY an underrated and unloved album is a classic, to the opposite; feeling so disappointed in an album by a favourite band that you need to unleash a shock&awe of "This f*****n sucks" and not be able to fathom why or how someone else can possibly like it! I'm not an AI fanboy, I thought it was and is one of their best albums, yes, but certainly don't place it in an echelon higher than that of everything else. It had it's share of filler also; as did 21CB. I came into Green Day almost two decades ago with 'Dookie', have been in and out of touch with them over that time, sometimes going through periods of listening to everything (right back to 39/Smooth babyyy!), and sometimes going months without hearing one pop-punk utterance from the lads. Initially, I loved 'Kill the DJ' (still do), 'Oh Love' also I think - while the verses could have used an edit - it's something different, and on a trio of albums filled with very similar pop punk rhythms, riffs, and tunes, anything that stands out is a plus. "Kill the DJ" was just more adventurous rhythmically, a great arrangement with the almost surf-Hawaiian guitar during the middle, and authentic groove. One the album, it broke the tedium of, for me, generic pop-punk with songs alarmingly rushing by without being memorable. "..DJ" seemed more considered, better written; whether one likes it or not, it was different and it worked. I don't hate the trilogy, but the songs as a whole just don't have that spark that the best of GD's albums' have; save for exceptions of course where they do get it right. As I mentioned before, much as I love 'em, how they felt they had enough quality and variety to fill three albums is beyond me. The Manic Street Preachers for example released 37 songs in 9 months 2013-2014, GD released 37 tracks the year earlier. The Manics two superlative albums, polar opposites to each other, hugely artistic, and 14 deluxe/b sides that make up the 3rd album so to speak, of equal quality. I make the comparison as the MSP obviously knew they had very differing material; lyrically, aestheticaly, thematically, artistically - and two separate albums was an obvious, and for fans, wonderful decision. GD, in my opinion, released the same album three times, the variation really is minimal; releasing a trilogy does smack of wishing for the epic scale of 'Sandinista', without having the quality material to do it. It just smacks of folly whenever I put it on, and unlike their best albums, I rarely would sit through an entire entry in the Uno, Dos, Tre catalogue, I can only cherrypick really the few genuinely good songs.

Summed up perfectly! Welcome to the forum, I'm enjoying your balanced and thoughtful posts already.
Guest Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 The only thing that I gathered from this thread is that DookieLukie has delusions of grandeur and it's fucking hilarious. Oh, and I listened to the Trilogy and thought most of it was shite before I even joined this forum, so yeah.
WhiteTim Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 That was possibly the best argument ever on GDC! Thanks to DookieLukie for his questionable arguing skills, and to Graham, Zack and Tim for fighting the good fight. Bless you all Well I like the trilogy unlike Graham and Zack but Luke's argument was just wow
Steven Seagull Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I think that's enough. DookieLukie, you're being an asshole. Now go back to your real world if you're as above arguing over pointless shit on the internet as you claim to be. Again what did he say wrong? Just because you and your buddies don't agree with him you can't tell people what to say or not. It's always the same people starting shit about the trilogy. If you don't like it don't comment.
Spike Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Again what did he say wrong? Just because you and your buddies don't agree with him you can't tell people what to say or not. It's always the same people starting shit about the trilogy. If you don't like it don't comment. I don't really care if he doesn't like the Trilogy. Abusing people by saying they have no social life if they post that they don't like the Trilogy, or that their opinions are invalid because other people share them, is more a clear attempt to "start shit" than offering well thought out criticisms of the Trilogy ever has been.
Anaïs. Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 If you don't like it don't comment. Says the man who constantly attacks AI out of nowhere.

"bad production" or "too much vocal filters" is not a well thought out criticism. And the thing he said about people having no social life is totally legit.

Cut out the personal comments, and if anyone has any off topic (ie not about the trilogy being underrated) issues please use the PM system to discuss them.
Spike Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 "bad production" or "too much vocal filters" is not a well thought out criticism. And the thing he said about people having no social life is totally legit. It's more of a well thought our criticism than attacking people on a personal level that has nothing to do with the music on any level. And no, there's nothing legit about conjecture. And what Hermione said.

And the thing he said about people having no social life is totally legit. I'm curious, do you ever actually bother to read criticisms of the Trilogy? They're generally much more detailed and thoughtful than that. And much more thoughtful than "AI sux because the songs are too long and talk about politics and Green Day sold out lololol". EDIT: sorry, Hermione, didn't see. Will stop engaging.
Ryan Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I think you're just upset that we've formed a more cogent and coherent argument against the trilogy It really doesn't matter if there are cogent and coherent arguments against the music as the opinion of the listener is the absolute only thing that matters. I mean, somebody can just say "I love it" and it doesn't really matter why...it's just how they personally feel. Personally, the Trilogy is my favorite thing that they have ever done. I think that people who ridicule the lyrics are just used to Billie doing different stuff lyrically. I find a lot of the lyrics to be fucking great. I absolutely love the overall sound. There are no songs that I skip...this is the only thing Green Day has ever done where I can say that. So, personally, I don't understand all the hate, but I also don't try forcing my opinion of it on others because it's purely an opinion based topic. There are really no facts that actually matter.

It's interesting to discuss the reasons for liking or disliking it and whether you agree or disagree, but when it comes down to whether it's good or not it's all subjective, and simply liking it certainly doesn't require justification.
Sauli Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I don't have nsy problems with any opinions, every opinion is equal, and opinions really cannot be based on facts, when it comes to music. Some people may think the Trilogy's lyrics are bad, but someone else may love them, and so on. Who is any of us to tell someone what they should like and what they should dislike? But, when someone attacks others because of their opinions, call them posers and basically do not respect their opinions, then I personally have a problem with that. People should not present their opinions as never-changing universal truths, no matter what their opinions are. It's art, and everyone experiences it differently.

Of course, but that wasn't what Seagull was doing at all. Neither was what Dookie Lukie was doing. They were not simply saying "I love the trilogy and that's just my opinion". That's what Hermione does and nobody argues with her because why would they? Seagull and Dookie Lukie clearly didn't go about it like that.

I get involved with a lot of shit on here, but at least i attempt to be intelligent about it.
