WhiteTim Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Yeah, Dookie contains way too much filler to be their definitive album. *looks over shoulder to see if DookieLukie is coming with a blunderbuss and a blackjack with the intent to blast and bludgeon* If I could like this more than once...
Anaïs. Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 If I could like this more than once... Just create a sockpuppet account.
AfterShock Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 oh my thoughts exactly YOU DON'T HATE ON WHATSERNAME EVER I AM PERSONALLY OFFENDED
DookieLukie Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Yeah, Dookie contains way too much filler to be their definitive album. *looks over shoulder to see if DookieLukie is coming with a blunderbuss and a blackjack with the intent to blast and bludgeon* Although my username may imply otherwise, American Idiot is my favorite Green Day album. I also consider it their best work. Are We The Waiting I can understand, as much as I love it, it's not a complete song. It's amazing for the live spectacle though. Homecoming, I can understand because it's a bit all over the place and not for everyone, although I love it. As for the others, that's just laughable, I'm sorry. You can hate them as much as you want but that doesn't make them filler. They fit the vibe of the album perfectly and they're fantastically crafted songs on every level. I've always considered Are We the Waiting and St. Jimmy two parts of bone song. It's much more epic together.
PoisonLemonade Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Fun fact about 21stCB: the guitar track has at the most 7 guitars going at once whereas the trilogy has 3 at the most good luck playing 7 guitars live.
Spike Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 good luck playing 7 guitars live. They don't have to given that a lot of said guitars are double tracked, and some are acoustic and simply there to add thickness. Plus Jason has got a Fishman acoustic simulator built into his guitar.
The Disappearing Boy Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 In terms of quality, I would class She's a Rebel and Extrordinary Girl as filler, but obviously in terms of the story they're crucial as they introduce Whatsername.
Mykee Mexx Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Trilogy discussion...? The Trilogy probably is not being underrated if it´s more attractive to turn it into a Dookie/AI/21stCB discussion.
TheGrouch33 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Yes Too much filler on Dookie?? And none on AI? Seriously? the issue with the "filler" in Dookie is that, in my opinion, its a bit underwhelming compared to the "filler" in AI....i mean Shes a rebel rocks!!, Letterbomb(dunno if you consider this as filler) is probably the most overlooked song in the album etc etc.
Jax Teller Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 the issue with the "filler" in Dookie is that, in my opinion, its a bit underwhelming compared to the "filler" in AI....i mean Shes a rebel rocks!!, Letterbomb(dunno if you consider this as filler) is probably the most overlooked song in the album etc etc. That guy considers the songs Whatsername, St. Jimmy, Homecoming ,WMUWSE as "filler".
Z J Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 some of these people give me headaches. I kind of loathe the Green Day purists who claim they sold out with AI, I mean what the fuck are they gonna do? Go backwards? It was a natural progression from Warning, and it saved their careers, commercially. And to the guy who said WMUWSE was filler....
Hermione Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Can we steer conversation back to the subject of the Trilogy being underrated please
TheGrouch33 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 That guy considers the songs Whatsername, St. Jimmy, Homecoming ,WMUWSE as "filler". Then he must think Basket case and When I Come Around are fillers too.....OHHH dear
dudley dawson Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Everyone is entitled to an opinion. The songs I mentioned are ok, but nothing special IMO. WMUWSE is just too cheesy and bland for me. I have no problem with others loving it, but please respect my opinion as Green Day is my favorite band and has been for 20 years now.

Now, let's get back to the Trilogy like Hermione said.
Z J Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 fuck the trilogy, yeah. It will be interesting to see how much of the trilogy they play live in Australia. They seem to have decided they were no longer going to support it for the most part. At Reading they played like 7 songs off of the trilogy right? And then at those random shows in the interim, they played it even less for the most part. How many of those songs have earned being a staple? 99 Revs is the opener and I doubt (but hope) they change that by Australia. Brutal Love will probably still be in there. Outside of that? maybe SWTRLF? They don't seem to care much about it. I personally hope they start playing some lesser played songs in place of the trilogy.
Mykee Mexx Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 99 Revs is the opener and I doubt (but hope) they change that by Australia. I remember in 2012 it was one of the last songs in Berlin (I had already left the arena and was waiting outside to avoid the crowd of people). I was sitting on a stone and when they played "99 Revolutions" I asked myself "This is Green Day??" Sounded like some meaningless disco-hop-along. It was catchy, though. But confusing.
dudley dawson Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 X Kid deserves to be a live staple. I was super stoked when they played it in LA last April and it was amazing live. But then again, so was the whole concert .We can respect it and still think it's idiotic. Now, let's get back to the Trilogy like Hermione said. "One man's idiocy is another man's genius" - me The trilogy is awesome and I never get tired of listening to it. That is the crux of this thread.
Jax Teller Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Ιt would be very nice if they played some songs from the Trilogy like Nuclear Family (they have played it a few times), Kill The DJ, Wild One, 8th Avenue Serenade or Dirty Rotten Bastards (ok, this will never happen).
JOE THE X-KID Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Stay the night. Never ever get rid of that.
The Disappearing Boy Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I thought it was something like that, yeah. Hell, the best thing about Know Your Enemy (which I generally hate) is how the doubled guitars come in and drop back out. For that album even the weak songs were arranged well. Then there's Holiday with the goddamn ninja acoustic guitar. Love it. What about the ninja acoustic guitar in Homecoming then - did you know of that one?
Spike Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 What about the ninja acoustic guitar in Homecoming then - did you know of that one? I did, it's on most of the album
The Disappearing Boy Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I did, it's on most of the album Goddammit man, you're good at this
Spike Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Goddammit man, you're good at this That's what a music degree and ears can do for you
