armatage Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 What does the Grammys have to do with tumblr? Grammys are voted by Grammy voting members... But yeah the trilogy wouldnt get nominated due to the lack of sales and attention it got but the time voting for nominations starts alot of albums get overlooked that werent huge in charts or constantly talked about to keep it on people's mind I have a theory Cuatro was nominated in some ways due to it being shown at SxSW and some other festivals (i can say from experience with the Grammys that voters pay attention to sxsw and other big festivals as well) I believe I was referring to EMAs and other MTV awards that Flyingdonutz brought up in the post I quoted.

It is no longer deemed relevant enough to air. I really hope that in a year that Green Day is nominated and attending they would choose to televise that category. Maybe this year the nominees just didn't produce any real hits.... but they're all big name artists so it's really disheartening to see.

Maybe it was due to lack of great (commercially) albums nominated?
Heather. Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Yeah, I just noticed that as well Pretty sad. Maybe it was due to lack of great (commercially) albums nominated? I think I noticed the same thing happened last year for this category. At the time I just brushed it off. It's really scary. It could definitely be related to rock's overall commercial failure lately, but that doesn't exactly make me feel any better. I hope that whatever rock band next has a big album and single and gets nominated (be it GD or someone else), we see them being honored on television. Otherwise rock is rendered as unimportant to American pop culture as Hawaiian folk music or Italian opera (no offense to those fine talents.)

Definitely makes you look back :/ I'm sure it will have it's comeback though. I guess it just happens in waves over the years, peaks and troughs. You never know, it could be Green Day that brings it all back
JOE THE X-KID Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Imagine Green Day do a surprise performance of Stay The Night...I would die
lizziebix Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Didn't Dave Grohl make some comment a few years ago about it being nice to have Rock recognized at the Grammy's?
ollhjr Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Yeah, I just noticed that as well Pretty sad. Maybe it was due to lack of great (commercially) albums nominated? Agreed on all points. This has been the trend on any music award show lately. Maybe not that they have completely gotten rid of the rock award, but just having be the first award to get rock out of the way for the top-40/pop categories & performances. It's like without Green Day, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a couple other bands, rock doesn't get the full-out exposure it did even five or six years ago. Even though these bands have recently released new albums, but did not get much top-40/mainstream exposure. My hope is that whenever Green Day releases a new album that Warner can get a big push behind it and make it a comeback album that reaches the masses. Wishful thinking, but after the trilogy & 21st Century Breakdown promotion, they owe the guys one.

WorryRock02 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I think that in a few minutes we will discover if they have won
Sanity Loan Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I think that in a few minutes we will discover if they have won About 12 more awards (and a performance) from now.
WorryRock02 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 About 12 more awards (and a performance) from now. also a performance ? ok...so maybe in half hour xD

Wishful thinking, but after the trilogy & 21st Century Breakdown promotion, they owe the guys one. How do Warner owe the band? 21st didnt sell as well cause the mainstream audience didnt care for the songs As for the trilogy promotion goes well as harsh as it may sound but the label isnt to blame for the lack of promotion...
Sanity Loan Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I have a feeling Coldplay will beat Cuatro just because they're Coldplay

Heather. Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 It's not like Coldplay have this long history of beating Green Day... They do probably have more visually stunning concerts though, so if that's part of their movie then probs.

I agree on the trilogy part of things. I just feel that on 21st Century Breakdown that there could have been one other song after 21 Guns. It's like they let that song stay on for too long without pushing another single like a lot of others do. That's all.
