Nimrod99 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I will just say that I will remain open minded and see what happens. I'm not freaking out or anything. A "break" doesn't have a time limit. It could be a few months, it could be a few years. Am I disappointed that I didn't get to see them during the trilogy (if that era is truly over)? Of course (I had to tickets to a show that was cancelled). I'm sure I've said it before, but I will say it again. I have stayed by this band since 1995, and I am sure that I am in it for the long haul. I owe this band my life (I literally would not be typing these words if it wasn't for this band), and I'm confident that they will be back in the future. Kudos to the band for doing what they need to do.
UNICORN VOMIT Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 He does do an occasional show here and there but he doesn't tour You can count on both hands (okay maybe three hands) on how many shows he has done in the last 5 years The point I was trying to convey was he has been to Australia 2 times to green days 1. So for someone that doesn't "tour" he has been here more than GD who are considered a touring band.

Blame promotors for that have promotors book them bands don't just come to a place for the hell of it... If promotors there can afford Em's million dollar charge they can for sure afford Green Day...
heart on a noose Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 When I first heard this, I was sad of course and sure I'm gonna miss them being around and active, but if they decided they need a break, even if it's a long break, then I'm okay with it. Maybe they are just taking long period of time because they have an awesome idea which realisation demands a bit longer period of time. Let's just hope for the best! As for the tour, I saw them for the first time this year and seeing them was the best thing ever and I wish I could relive it a thousand more times. So I'm just gonna take this break for saving money until they return.
Mar Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 To be expected, and I'm glad that they're thinking of their health as a band and their lives before touring (especially after what happened last year to Billie). I feel like I hardly saw them this era. It was over in a flash, which is a shame because I really love the trilogy. Sure, they've been touring, but I could never keep up with any plans and everything seemed kind of patchy. Kind of annoyed with how patchy the UK shows were and how I didn't get to see them because of it, but at least after this break they can sort themselves out and hopefully return with a stronger "push" than this. I don't mean this as a major criticism because at the end of the day we've got some brilliant music and fun memories, but idk, it's how I feel about it all. I feel the same way. It felt very piecemeal, particularly with the lack of U.S. dates! It's like, when you look at the Europe tour, it was pretty extensive and they DID do a lot this year all things considered, but it also felt like they were invisible! Weird how perception works. ANYWAY, mixed feelings. First off, half of the time I think Billie talks out his ass so I never take what he says too seriously/read into it too much. Meanwhile, NME does take comments like this super seriously with everyone, it seems. I feel like I always see them writing "_____ on hiatus"/"____ to re-evaluate selves after tour" and other click-baiting panic speculation. I have no clue what Billie means when he says this shit ... a break could mean winter and then back to touring in the spring or it could mean not touring again before new work comes out, we don't know, unfortunately. I want to see them in 2014 because I love them so much and concert-going is basically the only high point in my life (which is not the band's fault ... I just need a life and not be depressed ), but it wouldn't surprise me if they decide they want a clean slate after everything from the last 18 months or so, and I don't think I blame them. Since I am a selfish person, I want to say GODDAMMIT YOU GUYS CANCELED SO MANY DATES AND SKIPPED SO MANY PLACES GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER AND GET BACK IN BUSINESS WHETHER IT'S A TRILOGY OR ANNIVERSARY TOUR because I am frustrated that this era was pretty messy for a number of reasons, and it's frustrating as shit to me if they are going to disappear off the face of the earth in two months, because an anniversary tour would be super lucrative and headline-grabbing, but I don't want to think like that (much as I occasionally do when I'm frustrated ) because I don't know what's happening and if that's right for the band/Billie after everything and it's not fair to them. It would be so easy to just be pissed off at them for being lazy, wouldn't it? But we've got a few more variables in play that need to be considered (Billie's health, commercial appeal after the relative failure of the trilogy, etc.), unfortunately. So I can't be too mad if they want some time to re-cooperate and recalculate. I get it ... no one, including the band knows the future. We probably won't truly know what Billie meant until said break ends ... whenever it ends. That's what's so frustrating. I'm trying not to read too much into Billie's comments, but I also didn't/don't want to get my hopes up about a 2014 tour. I guess this means I have to actually find a full-time job now because I can't just use the "Oh, I want to be able to have time to see GD in a few cities and a full-time job would hinder that" excuse! ANYWAY, enough about me. I guess we all just need to move on with our lives and accept that they'll be ready to take our money when they're ready, and that's how being a fan works. Also, can everyone who is getting on their high horse about everyone complaining about not seeing them for so long or being sad step off? We all like the band for our own reasons and just because we're not "happy" about the potential of not seeing them for a while doesn't necessarily mean we don't care about the band or personally blame the band. I think you can be "disappointed" in this news but not disappointed in the band, and there's a big difference between the two. I'm seeing more of the former here, but a lot of people are treating fellow posters as if they're expressing the latter.
jrot Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 The guys just want some downtime to rest up, get their shit together, and recharge their creative batteries. I'm totally cool with this. We survived the 4 years of almost nothing in between AI and 21st Century Breakdown, so we should get through this.
IlariaIDIOT Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 People who care about Green Day showing a little emotion. Ridiculous, right? One girl I follow on twitter: "Oh my god!1 I'm crying so much!!! Why! Why! I'M CRYING PLEASE" Me: scroll, scroll Green Day take a break ok scroll scroll
Karl Karlson Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Green Day have split up and plan on reforming in 200 years, after the ocean wars, and after the dolphins have risen up and destroyed District 13 the band will put out a dubstep opera called Eurasian Idiot and be the biggest band in Airstrip One. Until then we just have to sit tight and listen to Nightlife on repeat, because they'll be offering us nothing new until then. Which is a shame, because this band who have been giving countless numbers of people music for two decades purely for the love of it OWE us, right? Dat imagination...amazing
green_soul Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 To me this is just a break. Just think about the last years: after every album there have been periods of pauses (for example, from American Idiot to 21st Century Breakdown have passed 5 years). I think they need a bit of time for them, for their families and for their minds. We wait you! Ps. I hope I haven't made too many mistakes!
The Platypus! Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I know that they're not going to break up but when they are on a break I get worried that they might. I don't know if I will be able to take this break
Beathe. Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Surprisingly, I'm not that sad. I kinda think it's a good thing and I didn't expect anything to happen soon anyway. I had the best time ever at the last concert in Denmark and I don't have any problem with waiting for years to the next one. I just hope it won't be too long... This. And you're alive. Hi
Heather. Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 The funny thing is that this break he's referring to will most likely be shorter than the six month break they're CURRENTLY on. And every break is sprinkled with random solo or group activity anyways.
bollard_11 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Can't say I'm surprised at this. I always felt the trilogy era era felt rushed, that came with the spontaneity though. Seriously they need to just relax, be selfish and put themselves and their families first for a while. Then come back strong as ever when they feel ready!
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Awww no, I missed them this tour because they only played a festival, I hoped they'd do a second leg so I could catch them then, guess that's not going to happen any time soon But, it does not come as a huge surprise. They've never taken a real break with no obligations after the Billie thing, and I don't blame them from taking one now, they probably need it badly. I hope they come out better than ever
Jon Benjamin Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 American idiot had a long break before and after and 21st was more successful than the trilogy, hopefully their next era will be more successful with more time for them to regroup.
inthehallwaynow Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 how many times can the same thing be said
GreenDay4Ever1039 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 honestly, just because a bunch of 40 year old dudes take a break doesn't mean there done CHILL OUT PEOPLE
Amanda Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I only need one more "chill out" and a "calm down", and then I've got bingo.
BadgerLALA Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Haven't they like done this before? Like between Warning and American Idiot?
spark in the night Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I remember that large gap between AI and 21CB. And it was so agonizing. Everyone on GDC was going nuts. And then I remember (I think it was Andres) who posted the topic with the 21CB teaser piano on repeat bit. That "dun dunnnn.....dun dunnnnnnn" and omg we were all freaking out speculating and analyzing it. Guess we all have that kind of excitement to look forward to
BadgerLALA Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 They do it between each album. I think the biggest was between AI and 21CB. 2004-2009. True that

Those two chords gave us so much fun! was that before or after the demo was released?
