Spike Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Well, that escalated quickly... We need to chill and look at the facts here. Green Day have split up and plan on reforming in 200 years, after the ocean wars, and after the dolphins have risen up and destroyed District 13 the band will put out a dubstep opera called Eurasian Idiot and be the biggest band in Airstrip One. Until then we just have to sit tight and listen to Nightlife on repeat, because they'll be offering us nothing new until then. Which is a shame, because this band who have been giving countless numbers of people music for two decades purely for the love of it OWE us, right?
Flyingdonutz Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 i am so hert u maek me crey help modz Just offering my opinion. I seriously do not understand why people find your presence here enjoyable. I really don't. Probably for satirical reasons. They played shows night after night and if it wasn't for Billies rehab stint it would have been just as "relentless" as the American Idiot tour. If you find it laughable, go play to 30 thousand people 46 times in 5 months. Well, that escalated quickly... We need to chill and look at the facts here. They also earn a break now and again though. The millions of fans that have given them over a hundred million dollars indeed do deserve stuff from Green Day. But touring non-stop for the rest of their lives isn't exactly that.
Jon Benjamin Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 they went literally everywhere but the uk on 99 revolutions tour and now the uk have to wait way fucking longer than we already did for another tour? sorry for being a selfish bastard, I'm just really impatient and I've been waiting for so long. I get that Billie's doing some Foreverly promo, and that he's writing some music for these paper bullets, but I'm just so disappointed, the reason I didn't buy tickets for emirates is because I assumed that they were going to do a tour in mid-2014 but I'm clearly wrong. What about the 3 shows in August and all the secret shows last year? They come to the UK pretty much every leg of every tour.

The millions of fans that have given them over a hundred million dollars indeed do deserve stuff from Green Day. But touring non-stop for the rest of their lives isn't exactly that. So they spend their entire lives writing and recording music, touring relentlessly, interacting with their fans and all sorts of other things, the fans pay them for this, yet they still owe us something? I don't think so. I think at this point that's pretty ungrateful. The fact is, they owe us nothing, they don't have to do this. It's not like the millions of dollars they've earned from us is a cash advance and they're yet to do anything in return for the money.

Probably because you provide them with aerodynamic pastries. I wouldn't exactly call 45 odd shows in about 180 days "relentless". If I could work 1 out of every 5 days that'd be pretty damn chill. And it's not like they're under huge stress while travelling in the lap of luxury. Sure, they toured a bit, but it was far from relentless.

They played a show around every other night while actually out on the road. That's a lot of work to keep up for 5 months out of the year. Just because they're paid a whole lot money to do it doesn't mean it doesn't take a toll.
petros Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 What I really find stupid is when people complain about green day "owing us" something. NO band in the world owes you anything. They release the music we buy it.If they wanna do conserts we pay them and go see them conserts. One of the biggest artists ever, Eminem, doesn't even tour cause he wants to stay home with his kids and his last album sold about 800k on first week.Must the fans feel betrayed or something?

Just because they're paid a whole lot money to do it doesn't mean it doesn't take a toll. Might be debating semantics here but the period that they were playing every other night was about 3 months, definitely not 5 months. And as a point of reference I'd consider "relentless touring" to be playing something close to 200 shows a year like they did in their early days.
Connor Finlayson Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Also this one. http://youtu.be/x80kPRxMtxA?t=1m35s
Heather. Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I'm always amused when I see a thread topic and think "Well that's self-explanatory and obvious, no need for me to click the thread" and then I see it's got 7 pages of discussion in a few days and I'm just like, "...how?" If Billie hadn't mentioned it we just would have seen Green Day not do anything for a month or two and then be like "Well then, that just happened."
UNICORN VOMIT Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 A couple of weeks ago everyone was excited when GD won the award & billies interview he said something like we will see you on tour soon. Everyone needs to chill - so they have not got anything planned after soundwave - big deal - that can change over night. Everyone needs to stop hanging on every word that comes out of billies mouth. Even though I am next to see them - try living here it will be way over 4 years - worth the wait yes & we will wait again cause they will be back.
Certified Nimrod Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 One of the biggest artists ever, Eminem, doesn't even tour cause he wants to stay home with his kids and his last album sold about 800k on first week.Must the fans feel betrayed or something? If I was a fan, I'd probably be upset about that. But don't get me wrong, it's nice that he likes to be with his family, though.
UNICORN VOMIT Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 He is touring here next year & was here a few years back - big stretch to say he doesn't tour
petros Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Nothing bad with being upset about something! Saying that the artist owes you something and must care about about you being being upset is wrong. Also he he doesn't really tour just does some festivals and maybe maybe some shows that's it.
WhiteTim Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 He is touring here next year & was here a few years back - big stretch to say he doesn't tour He does do an occasional show here and there but he doesn't tour You can count on both hands (okay maybe three hands) on how many shows he has done in the last 5 years
Brian Gag Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 What I really find stupid is when people complain about green day "owing us" something. When "nimrod." came out, Green Day did a live chat. I asked them if they'd come over for Thanksgiving dinner. They said yes. Then they never so much as even got my address. It's been 16 years. Oh, well. More turkey for me.

LazyPhil Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I don't feel like that's really news. They haven't been doing anything for a few months anyway except touring, but there was no real media coverage or anything.
Todd Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 What do you think Green Day had been doing since August? They have been taking a break. This isn't news. They played a side project show, a birthday party, and a charity event since then. That's all break stuff that they don't do on tour.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I really think everyone (GDCers, news sites, whatever) reads way too much into one or two of Billie's sentences during one of his nonchalant ramblings and everything gets blown out of proportion. In less than a year it's gone from "we're not touring for a long time" to "see you soon" to "we're taking a little break." Everyone needs to just sit tight and stop speculating. As difficult as it is, no one knows what's going to happen next year or the years after (in my opinion, Green Day included), and that's fine. To me, it seems like they're just going to hold off on producing more music until it feels natural. And given the meltdown of 2012, that's alright with me. They don't need to answer to us or to anybody. Really? Like REALLY do you think they need a fucking break? Break of what? Maybe i'm just pissed off because as a South American fan they are letting me down (again) but they did an European tour ending July 13th, then they returned August 21th for only 3 gigs (again in Europe), then the last gig in San Francisco a few days ago and you really think they need a break? Even Billie Joe is saying they were not doing much! "We're going to Australia, doing a tour there and then we're going to take a break. We haven't really been doing much. " Maybe because you guys have seen them like million times, but here in South America is not the case. And please don't start with that shit of logistics of moving the band to another country because they have 5 gigs coming in Australia that are for sure not more worth than coming to South America with Rock in Rio coming and 3 Lollapalooza's. Don't hate me but just try to put your feet in our shoes for one sec. Are you fucking serious right now? They're not letting you down. They're being human beings. Grow up. For some reason, I thought I had read something Billie said that was hinting at a Foreverly tour, but maybe not...? I can't remember. I feel like he had said it was a possibility at one point though. idk. I think it was a sarcastic comment that (go figure) everyone took out of proportion. Something along the lines of "we've already got the tour lined up" or something like that. Bit of a shame they didn't tour as much as usual for these albums, and particularly that planned shows and legs of tours ended up not happening (even though given the circumstances it was to be expected). But the mere fact that they're taking a break before the next album having finished touring is non-news. Yeah, I think the only thing I'll hold any bitter feelings toward during this era is is the chaos that ensued with the cancelled U.S. tour dates. If I hadn't snagged tickets to the Pittsburgh show after Cleveland was canceled, and I ended up not getting to see them, I'd be more devastated than if they never toured near me at all. It was a terrible feeling. Don't worry guys. It only took Blink 182 five years to get back together after their hiatus. And they're even more successful now than they were then! A couple of weeks ago everyone was excited when GD won the award & billies interview he said something like we will see you on tour soon. Basically this is what I was trying to say above.
