Guest Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I heard from a guy who heard it from his cousins hair dresser who heard it from a janitor who heard it thru his baby mamas other baby mamas daddy who heard it from Billie Joe's dog who heard it thru Billie Joe's cat that Green Day has in fact broken up and Billie has formed a group with Lady Cobra Actually, Billie Joe has left GD, but GD stands strong. Jeff Matika will be the group's new frontman.

JOE THE X-KID Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I really can't believe how people think Green Day are breaking up because they're taking a break, it's what you do after a long tour.
Jon Benjamin Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I really can't believe how people think Green Day are breaking up because they're taking a break, it's what you do after a long tour.Yeah like do people not remember the long break between AI and 21st?
moonflower93 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Jason quoted in an article about his side project band California "I'd kind of been starting to do stuff under my own name in 2011, just to try writing my own songs again," says White, noting that Green Day is on an "indefinite break" — though he did just get off the phone with Armstrong, who called to tell him about how crazy it was to play with the Replacements at Coachella the previous night. (White, with a laugh: "I hadn't wanted to go at all but now I'm super jealous, and bummed that I wasn't there.") http://www.sfbg.com/2014/04/22/california-scratch?page=0,0 i read this just today. Jason can actually focus on California, The Big Cats and his own work. plus spending some time with Janna and Sonny.
Mar Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 To be fair, I can understand why people are (likely/hopefully) overreacting about the word "hiatus." A lot of things are different about this period than in others, say, between AI and 21CB, when a lot of the posters here started paying attention to them. That was mainly just about taking a deserved break and crafting the next project. Now, the band is coming off a major personal crisis that became very public and unavoidable and a commercial performance that wasn't great. This is as much about regrouping as it is resting, I think. When this was happening in the post-Warning era, social media wasn't really a thing, and it was easier to lose track of a band you liked and their issues weren't as widely speculated about. Now, we jump at any news, tweet, selfie or whatever and over-analyze it and what ramifications Billie's new look has on the band (I mean, we all know that it's a sign he's becoming a train-hopper, but regardless ) or how what someone said can be construed as a sign that they are breaking up, whatever. As long as we have the opportunity to have so much access to a band, we're gonna want that much access, and we'll dissect anything and everything because we want them back. And anything that hints at that lack of information and material for an indefinite amount of time is scary! Now, I'm not saying that I think they're taking a permanent or semi-permanent hiatus; until I hear otherwise, I'm assuming this is a rest and regroup period, as is natural at this state of an era. But hearing those words can bum you out and I can see how people may consider all of the variables and draw their own conclusions.

But hearing those words can bum you out and I can see how people may consider all of the variables and draw their own conclusions. The band haven't used the word hiatus though! All they've said is they're taking a break like usual (Billie said,"We're going to Australia, doing a tour there and then we're going to take a break." and the article went with the headline,"Green Day To Take Hiatus" from that ). I think it's just because of the situation they're in this time that you've described the media has called it a "hiatus" and made a bigger story of it, and fans have taken more notice of it both because of the situation and because there's not much else going on with the band like interviews and awards and stuff like there has been in the past. Rehab happened, their albums didn't do too well, and now they're on "hiatus", ooh! But as far as I know the band themselves haven't said anything more alarming than they have at the end of previous eras. If you just look at what the band themselves have most recently said and done (had a successful year of touring, said nothing but positive things about the band, and just casually said they're taking a break when asked what's next) I don't see much to worry about.
WhiteTim Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 But what about the link stating Jason White noted that Green Day was on an "indefinite break" with the quotation mark? I think that implys Jason said it and he has some ground to be held credible it wouldn't be a media using the word it's an actual member of the group saying it...

I think that implys Jason said it and he has some ground to be held credible it wouldn't be a media using the word it's an actual member of the group saying it...Yeah but indefinite break doesn't really mean anything, just means he doesn't know how long (or short) the break will be. If he'd also said he doesn't know if they're coming back and stuff then it'd be alarming but in the context he said it in I don't think it is at all.
Fuzz Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 But what about the link stating Jason White noted that Green Day was on an "indefinite break" with the quotation mark? I think that implys Jason said it and he has some ground to be held credible it wouldn't be a media using the word it's an actual member of the group saying it... They're on a break, they have no scheduled plans to come back. Every time they take a break they don't know how long it'll take for them to write and record new stuff. People just seem more jumpy about it now since the trilogy didn't sell well and the whole tour even felt rushed. So even though these breaks are not at all abnormal for Green Day, people are assigning greater meaning to them this time around. Or maybe not. I've had this conversation many times before after each album comes out. To me it just seems like Green Day needed to reset, and Billie said last year they needed time to "recharge their batteries." So yes, it's indefinite because they don't know when they'll be ready. Just like before. They didn't finish the AI or 21CB tours and think "ok, here's our roadmap for the next 4 years." They took some time off, then slowly started working on the next thing as it came, then announced it after they started recording. let's also not forget Billie said before he wanted to do what he did with Foreverly and not tell anyone what was going on until it was already done. So we're in the quiet time now and all that's left is for people to speculate and assign meanings to words to try and understand or get a hint of "what's next" - and I can't help but feel that's exactly what Billie Joe is avoiding. He doesn't want to go in to the next album with the pressure of "ok, people are waiting and seeing what I do now." So instead, they're staying quiet, they're on a break. And over the next several months or a year, we'll hear little bits from them about what they're doing, or who knows what to expect. They could pull out another Foxboro, they could do whatever they want. At this exact point in time, I think they're just taking it easy, spending time with family, and I would guess slowly writing to see what comes of it.
WhiteTim Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Yeah but indefinite break doesn't really mean anything, just means he doesn't know how long (or short) the break will be. If he'd also said he doesn't know if they're coming back and stuff then it'd be alarming but in the context he said it in I don't think it is at all. And I agree with that and what Andres wrote My feeling is they should take however long break they want to be it a month or years and shouldn't even think about those who think they shouldn't I rather have a refreshed band then a wormed out worked to the bone band
Ross_19 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Green Day to take a break, Green Day to have a KitKat ! I've figured it out!
Met Fan Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I kinda skimmed the pages but I'm with the people wondering "a break from what?", when was the last time Green Day released an album without a full north American leg or even two? I understand things with the trilogy have not gone the way they usually would because of Billie Joe's incident and rehab deal but it's been a while since all that took place and it sounds like the time to be thinking of a tour sometime soon instead of taking a break. Having said all that I think I can sense BJA is bored with everything GD and that's reason enough to take a break until he regains interest.

moonflower93 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Like i've stated before, BEEJ has projects he wants to do, mike and tre too. Jason has other bands and a 1 yr old at home.

Guest Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 WHAT THE FUCK, BAND? What about the South American tour? We are WAITING, okay?! You're shit out of luck anyway. Everyone knows they're going to Brazil.
Heather. Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 One of the guys (I think either Tre or Jeff) once tweeted/instagrammed sarcastically that the country that screamed the loudest would get Green Day. And people thought they were serious. So, they brought this LATINAMERICAWANTSGREENDAY bull shit onto themselves.

Heather. Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Come to Brazil!!!! You know what the worst thing is? When Green Day finally DOES get around to going to Brazil, even if it's in 10 years, the Brazilian fans will attribute their success to the decade-old twitter campaign that finally worked and start their pressures anew. BRAZIL BRAZIL BRAZIL.
tdlyon Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Green Day isn't the only band that constantly gets "Come to Brazil", I see it all the time for any musician.
Insomniac1984 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Brazil is an important country to play gigs for ANY band around the world. Southamerica (Brazil, Chile and Argentina especially) IS a big stage, there are huge and massive support to rock gigs. As a Chilean GD fan I'd like to watch them again here in my country, BUT I understand the fact they want to take a break. I prefer to watch them with their "batteries full of charge" than a mediocre/dispassionate average show. LET THE GUYS REST, they have a personal life
Overjoyyed Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Yeah like do people not remember the long break between AI and 21st? but that was so long ;-(
