Guest Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 The Clash, The Ramones, Social Distortion, Husker Du... Green Day have yet to make a cover of a classic punk tune that wasn't a by the numbers copy paste of the original.
WhiteTim Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I loved that they covered The Clash - I like when they cover old punk tunes....bring on the Ramones....they made it their own... or Operation Ivy Inn a way they haven't covered The Clash as The Clash was covering The Crickets...

Guest Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Knowledge? The fact the album version is shit is irrelevant. I'd hardly call it classic. Not compared to those 4 anyway.
Spike Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I'd hardly call it classic. Not compared to those 4 anyway. Fair point. In any case, only that and Shout are any different from the originals.
Guest Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Fair point. In any case, only that and Shout are any different from the originals. My Generation But then again that's two chords you can't exactly do much with it when you're a snotty punk band.
The Disappearing Boy Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Do you the NME? Do you know your NME? Well gotta hate the NME ....... ...... Sorrr....rrrry Better than the originl Know Your Enemy. Also Working Class Hero is a mix between the original and Green Day's influence.
Spike Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 My Generation But then again that's two chords you can't exactly do much with it when you're a snotty punk band. The only difference in My Generation is that Mike couldn't do Entwhistle's fills at that point
Flyingdonutz Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 And Train Kept a Rollin by Aerosmith is a crime against music. They sold out. Unlike the Yardbirds. [sarcasmface] The only reason this is on here is because the Clash covered it the most popularly and apparently that means they have some kind of ownership rights to the song and Green Day are such corporate dick sucking sellouts that they can't cover it without getting shit. And even if their version did suck (which i dont think it does) I think that makes up for it tenfold.
green day is Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 You guys are such dickfarters. This is article is so tongue-in-cheek the author's probably bored a hole straight through. Not to mention that it's pulled directly from readers' opinions. It's so fucking obvious that they just went through the comments/suggestions/wherever they got these and picked the most ridiculous ones, but all you guys are thinking about is how they insulted Green Day. BTW I don't read NME so any presupposed notions you guys seem to have are irrelevant to me, especially considering that it's from the readers.

I actually somewhat agree with the statement in the article, but the fact that they consider this "journalism" is just another in a long line of ludicrous moves from NME that basically makes them a joke.

I doubt that they consider this particular article to be journalism. I don't read NME, so I don't know about any others, but there's absolutely no way that this article is genuine. Especially considering that, again, these are all from readers. It's right there in the title. The article is out of place on the site, considering it really should be about genuine music news and reviews and all, but other than that there isn't much of a problem with it.
Idlewild. Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 "lol hating pop music makes us look edgy xDDD" is all I got from that article.

To be fair, NME is the publication that stated Green Day's opening song at Reading was The Clash's Hey Ho Let's Go, quoted Billie Joe as saying he's been around since 1998, said The All American Rejects released Move Along in 2008, claimed that Bowling For Soup have an album called Punk 101, and thinks that Bust A Move is by an artist called Young DMC. So there's that. Tom basically covered a lot of the dodgy shit that they've published in "journalistic articles", if they can even be called that. NME is basically a bad joke on here now. This doesn't really help.
jacknovella Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 That's bullshit. There's nothing more that needs to be said about it.

porksoda Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 The British's opinion on music is terrible, just terrible. Also, NME.
The Grohl Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 So it's a bad cover because they didn't really change up the song much to make it their own? That's what most cover songs are. It's not the best out there, but it's always been one of my favorites.
