stpaulie Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Some people worked hard on this desing contest and the winner was someone that copied and pasted someone elses design in 5 minutes. unffair
Florence Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 ^ I'm with you Flo! Let's start a war! No, really. I think it's not fair to those who met all requirements there's a contest with rules and you have to stick to those rules to enter successfully. Period. Guess I should've entered with a 6000 x 6000 px design that says "Blink-182" + "2013" with a Spastic Nerve in rainbow colors. #sassy
stpaulie Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I think its more serious that she or him stole the design from another artist, did you see the original image? they copied and pasted it. I thought we were supposed to create a design, not stealing from someone else...
Florence Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I think its more serious that she or him stole the design from another artist, did you see the original image? they copied and pasted it. I thought we were supposed to create a design, not stealing from someone else... YES. That too! :angry It wasn't simply "copy and paste" because it had to be 4500x4500px, that's pretty huge, whoever made it traced the design and entered with it. But I know what you mean! Plot twist: the t-shirt was designed by the same guy who made the flyer artwork. However, that wouldn't change the fact that it has 5 (?) colors.
Karl Karlson Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Plot twist: the t-shirt was designed by the same guy who made the flyer artwork. However, that wouldn't change the fact that it has 5 (?) colors. Even if...Does the 'artist' have the rights to use the original pic (the skeleton pic, which is copyright protected <- right words? ) for the contest? I mean, it's a shirt that goes worldwide
stpaulie Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Im not even sure if they redrew it, I saw the original flyer file and it was a big file, size can be manipulated in Photoshop easily. Its hard to tell though with that small tshirt picture. .. not fair. its a great picture and I love the original art but it was stolen. Im considering sending idiot nation an email. I think this was a mistake probably, that member should be ashamed of herself/himself
Backyard Skulls Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Wow that's really crappy surely someone from in would've seen the original poster before?
Florence Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Even if...Does the 'artist' have the rights to use the original pic (the skeleton pic, which is copyright protected <- right words? ) for the contest? I mean, it's a shirt that goes worldwide I don't know. If the skeleton picture is copyright protected, then no. It's not 100% the same pic you posted but the idea is definitely the same. Basically, every artist owns the copyright of their stuff, that's true for every type of creative work. Im not even sure if they redraw it, I saw the original flyer file and it was a big file, size can be manipulated in Photoshop easily. Its hard to tell though with that small tshirt picture. .. not fair. its a great picture and I love the original art but it was stolen. Im considering sending idiot nation an email. I think this was a mistake probably, that member should be ashamed of herself/himself Ooooh. I only had the small version posted on the last page. We should definitely send them a bunch of angry emails
Karl Karlson Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I don't know. If the skeleton picture is copyright protected, then no. It's not 100% the same pic you posted but the idea is definitely the same. Basically, every artist owns the copyright of their stuff, that's true for every type of creative work. It actually IS the same picture, but edited (Copyright at the bottom of the page: http://www.clydecaldwell.com/large_images/skeletal_kiss_drawing.html). I think we all have the small picture from the Idiot Nation, so we have to wait for a bigger version. But I'm 100% sure that the original artist used THAT picture, legally or not, but of course...the important thing is, that we find out if the 'artist' used the picture legally for the contest
stpaulie Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Did you see this? this is the original poster where they took it from, its the same http://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Day-HAND-SILK-SCREEN-concert-poster-/251378549717 at the ebay link it even says the name of the original artist , Los Angeles artist Ivan Minsloff
Tubbie Head Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Did you see this? this is the original poster where they took it from, its the same http://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Day-HAND-SILK-SCREEN-concert-poster-/251378549717 at the ebay link it even says the name of the original artist , Los Angeles artist Ivan Minsloff Yeah, it was posted earlier... Man, that's a bit shitty. I like the design, but if it does not follow the guidelines

The mirrored version looks A LOT like the drawing you posted. I didn't notice that at first.
BeachBum Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Even if...Does the 'artist' have the rights to use the original pic (the skeleton pic, which is copyright protected <- right words? ) for the contest? I mean, it's a shirt that goes worldwide The skeleton pic is similar but not the exact same, it is altered enough that it changes the meaning of the image. So it does not infringe on the copyright. Also seeing as as drawing skeletons is part of many illustration/ animation programs there are likely many similar drawings out there.
Cath Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 omg i hate it sorry if the designer read this. why the fuck it got picked? and why this, i mean 21stCB was 2009 we're 2014 i don't get it. now i don't wanna renew because of this. i want the 2013 one

Karl Karlson Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Im Stpaulie, imagine how pissed off I am, I wanna die I was close I would like to see yours on the shirts...that's my favorite from the 4 "close" ones. I would have killed IN if they would have used the one with the cartoonish characters...looks ridiculous O.o

"All Submitted Designs must be the original work of the Participant, must not have been previously exhibited, recorded or transmitted,..." my ass. Im Stpaulie, imagine how pissed off I am, I wanna die I was close omg!!! I'm so sorry. That sucks. I hope the winner gets disqualified. at first I thought you forgot to include a "Green Day" writing in your design, then I noticed the brains form "Green Day" !!! That's brilliant.
mies Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Well I think it's unfair - More than 6 colors - Not orginal artwork It's againt the rules. And I like stpaulie artwork more. And this artwork isn't against the rules
stpaulie Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Im glad you liked it, thats the main reason why I like to participate in this type of contests, that people like what I create, and it seems the band liked it as well. I think the one that won was chosen by mistake (they probably didnt know it was someone elses work)
Karl Karlson Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 It's also weird that I can go to the everybody's profile except "Girlblade" (the 'winner')... EDIT: I just wrote Ivan Minsloff, the creator of the original, an e-mail and asked him if he knows anything about it.
olstjimmy Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 LOL I scrolled through it on IN thinking they were finalists not winners cos i wasn't concentrating... I don't like the feeling I got apon reailsing the winner that I liked I only liked because I'd seen it before. That feels like being duped. I prefer the one by Stpaulie. It's a better, orgiinal design, and also more fun EDIT: Actually just got annoyed about it because of things like this happening to my friends and so commented about it. But I'm sure the guys who choose probably didn't realise it wasn't original artwork.
Florence Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 So has anyone actually emailed IN or netty about this yet? I would, but I'm not up to scratch on copy-right law/not as filled with righteous indignation I sent an email to memberships@GDidiotnation.com yesterday. I don't know about Stpaulie and Koal, but I assume they did too.
