AlissaGoesRAWR Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 My mom and dad are obsessed with this album, I can't begin to tell you how hilarious it is to me that my dad, who disapproves strongly of Green Day, and Billie Joe in particular, is listening to and enjoying this music This from the man who called Billie "a coked up, eye-liner wearing, America-hating, short little excuse for a person." Technically that's not too inaccurate...
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 That's like the epitome of all the things my dad hates though I wanted to try and get my mom to listen to this CD, as she used to listen to the Everly Brothers when she was younger, but my parents are so anti-Green Day from listening to me babble on about them all day that I'm not even going to try. My dad just calls him the "short, ugly drug addict you're in love with... isn't he my age?" or something to that effect.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Just sneak it into their player sometime and be like, hey, what's this? Do you like it? First I have to buy it. Heh.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Buy it, if only for yourself! Seriously, it's worth it I ried to find it around here when I'm at the store and couldn't, and then I just kind of never got around to ordering it online. I have listened to it a couple times on YouTube though. Although it's not my preferred style of music, I can appreciate it for what it's worth!
Whatsinaname Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I know what you're say about parents haha! I did the same thing to my mom, I just popped in the CD (she thought I was going to play "GD crap"). I grew up on old school country so I knew she would love this. When she was telling me the story about calling the radio station to play this, she again asked me "Now who is this Billie Joe again?" I said mom, the lead singer to the punk band I've been obsessed with for years. "Why would he record this?" she asked. I said because mother, maybe he wanted to pass down this American forklore music to younger fans who probably would have never heard these songs before, and he's grown up now. "Oh, well he sure can sing those harmonies". I'm sure your parents will appreciate Billie Joe more once they hear how amazing this CD is. Please pay it forward
Mykee Mexx Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 My dad just calls him the "short, ugly drug addict you're in love with... isn't he my age?" or something to that effect. Sorry, but...
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Sorry, but... And I'm always like "NO DAD, YOU'RE 47 AND HE'S 41! Bitch."
desertrose Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Nice to listen to while working here at home. My hubbys best friend in high school was Phil and the kids would call them The Everly Brothers, because they were always hanging together because their names were Don and Phil.
WhiteTim Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 So itunes and amazonmp3 has made a Everly Brothers re release of Songs That Our Daddy Taught Us plus a mix of their best of and made a cover similar to Foreverly... (Sidenote I wished Billie and Norah didnt delete that last verse of Rocking Alone In A Old Rocking Chair)
cav9mm Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Wow, still love this album. It sends me off to such a peaceful sleep.
Mykee Mexx Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I begin to like it more and more. It´s really calming, but also always causes goosebumps, when I listen closely.

(Sidenote I wished Billie and Norah didnt delete that last verse of Rocking Alone In A Old Rocking Chair) What was the last verse?
WhiteTim Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I know some youngsters in an orphans' home Who'd think they owned heaven if she was their own They'd never be willing to let her sit there Rocking alone in an old rocking chair What was the last verse?

WhiteTim Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Why was it removed? No clue its in the everlys version Thats so far is the only major lyric change ive noticed The rest are just a word or two
Whatsinaname Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I wish they would have left that last verse in too. Thanks for posting Tim.
Ryan Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 That omitted verse is actually really good. I also must say that I'm still in love with this album. It's just so relaxing and soothing. Why the fuck haven't they made an appearance together yet?!? That needs to happen sooner than later.
Ryan Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 When they do (because I'm sure they will) I will absolutely die of jealousy over whoever gets to see them I have already determined that I will make arrangements to go see then where ever it may be. I mean, it's New York or LA...I would assume. I'm close to one and across the country from the other, but I would make it happen either way.
WhiteTim Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I wish they would have left that last verse in too. Thanks for posting Tim. No problem I ordered a copy of the Everly's version and was just listening and hearing that verse was like wait what the I wish they kept it cause I love Billie and Norahs voices on the song
Whatsinaname Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Today I told my mom (who is almost 80) that they left off this last verse. I suggested she listen to the original version. Thank you Tim. Why they didn't include that last verse will always be a mystery! She also was wondering why this album hasn't been "on TV"? I share with her all of our opinions about Foreverly. We can only hope for a Grammy appearance? Yes it is a generation gap but at least we agree
November's Storms Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I guess TV is more concerned about current pop trends and most teens aren't gonna give a damn about an Everly Brothers cover album.
Ryan Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 So true... and so sad. Kids these days I really think that every kid needs to be raised on the oldies...that way they can hear what music was like when it really started taking off and hear the stuff that inspired a lot of what we have now. After growing up on the oldies they can then be free to branch out and make their own decisions.
Ryan Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Exactly.... that's why I'm raising my kid exclusively on 39/Smooth & Kerplunk. wut LMAO! I do laugh when I turn on the oldies station here and realize that I'm listening to Billy Joel and other 80s pop/rock. I miss the days when the oldies station was nothing but the Beatles, Beach Boys, Temptations, doo-wop, etc.

whatshername0303 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I went to the CD store near my house and Foreverly was in the "best sellers" of the week for the english cds.
