IcyMoffatt Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 The tv show Haut-Parleurs on MusiquePlus is going to review Norah and Billie Joe's album. The episode will air tonight at 8:30 pm and next friday at 11:30 am.
rebelpunx Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Only just seen this. I'll listen to it on iPlayer tomorrow http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03jdhg3/Jo_Whiley_Billie_Joe_Armstrong_and_Norah_Jones/
That Dude Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Got the album today, haven't had a full listen to it yet. Planning on setting some time aside tomorrow to enjoy it. I love the packaging it came in to, nice card sleeve thing instead of a CD case...is everyone's like that? I actually dislike the packaging. Sure it's in a card sleeve, but there's nothing in there. Open the box, there's a disc. That's it.
That Dude Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Something I haven't seen mentioned anywhere - the Everly Brother are still alive and continue to perform/record. Have they made any comment about this album? It would interesting to hear what they have to say, and even more so to see them perform with Billie and Norah a time or two.

Heather. Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I actually dislike the packaging. Sure it's in a card sleeve, but there's nothing in there. Open the box, there's a disc. That's it. Phew, I was wondering if I was getting a ripped off version of it. I agree, I much prefer the plastic CD case, if only because it's more secure and doesn't bend. I feel like I have to very carefully never touch this. Plus there's no booklet. I like the little not written by Billie Joe where he refers to the two of them as "me and Jonesy"
BeachBum Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I have been enjoying this album for the past couple days. I find myself more productive doing photo editing while listening the the album. It's soothing and relaxing and I kinda just get lost in the music.
Whatsinaname Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Yay I'm so happy my local Target store had this in stock so I now have the CD! There were nine copies there and I wanted to buy them all! It was in the "Top Hits" section. I think more artists are releasing CD's with the cardboard cover now instead of the plastic case, I know I have discarded so many cases into the recycling bin. I do save the booklets though but only Green Days'. Maybe it's a trend but what do I know lol!
Heather. Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03jdhg3/Jo_Whiley_Billie_Joe_Armstrong_and_Norah_Jones/ Times to listen to music/Norah's interview are 50:45, again at 57:15, and Billie comes in at 1:16:20 You can just tell Norah's not really into loud rock music She was respectfully like "I know and like a lot of Green Day songs" but as soon as she said Time of Your Life is her favorite songs, we just know she probably doesn't listen to them . But I don't see it as an offense to Green Day. It's the type of music she enjoys. I'm sure she doesn't listen to many punk rock bands in general. I'll get over it
Overjoyyed Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 The only review on Amazon... Lmao That is hilarious. What a guy! The tv show Haut-Parleurs on MusiquePlus is going to review Norah and Billie Joe's album. The episode will air tonight at 8:30 pm and next friday at 11:30 am. This may be a dumb question. But is it in french?
jacknovella Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I actually dislike the packaging. Sure it's in a card sleeve, but there's nothing in there. Open the box, there's a disc. That's it. I only liked it because it fit in with the old fashioned theme. Although I do agree with you, it's pretty bare and it could have benefited a lot from a mini booklet or something with lyrics I also thought the CD might have looked better if they'd made it look like a vinyl.
whatshername0303 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 That is hilarious. What a guy! This may be a dumb question. But is it in french? Yes! MusiquePlus TV shows are in french. Sometimes there are TV shows in english, but there are subtitles. I think that Haut parleurs is only in french.
IcyMoffatt Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Yes, Haut-Parleur is a french tv show. But some people here are from the Province of Quebec and they would have been able to watch it. Also, I'm not a 100% sure since I didn't visit MusiquePlus' web site during the last few months, I think you can watch this tv show on the web site. Anyway, I watched it yesterday on tv. Basicaly, the 3 tv hosts didn't like the album. They gave the score 6/10. They said they liked the idea of the public discovering the Everly Brothers' works after all those years, but Norah and Billie Joe's version sounds very boring. They also said they were happy Norah sings with Billie because they belive he hasn't a voice that can reach high notes. One more thing, and it doesn't make any sens to me, but one of the 3 tv hosts said he felt like Billie Joe was trying to make a redemption with this album (because of what happenned last year in his life and now he made this record which is not related to drugs and alcohol like Green Day is).
warding_off_regrets Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I love this album. The idea of it, the sound, everything. I grew up listening to the Everly Brothers and other artists of that time period because of my father, and it's just really cool that one of my current-era idols has appreciation of the same style of music. Something I haven't seen mentioned anywhere - the Everly Brother are still alive and continue to perform/record. Have they made any comment about this album? It would interesting to hear what they have to say, and even more so to see them perform with Billie and Norah a time or two. The New York Times article on Foreverly has some quotes from Phil Everly interspersed into the piece. Mostly his quotes pertain to when he and his brother recorded the album in 1958, but there's this at the very end: Phil Everly said he was pleased with the remake: “They did a very good job, and they blend very well.” And he noted that “Foreverly” was as unexpected as “Songs Our Daddy Taught Us” had been. “The formula today is to just keep doing what you’ve been doing,” he said. “I have to respect them for not doing that.”
Anja Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I just came across this: http://thetalkhouse.com/reviews/view/tim-mcilrath-billie-joe-armstrong-and-norah-jones My favorite musician Tim McIlrath (Rise Against) talks about the new album of another favorite musician of mine (Billie Joe). Fantastic read! (Also because he mentions the show they played with Green Day in Mainz that I was lucky enough to witness)
JOE THE X-KID Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 It took me longer than it should have to realize that the image on the CD is Billie and Norah, not some strange looking yellow statue in the middle. I honestly thought it was a Llama....
